      But Margaret Court actually competed with the SAME SET OF TOP RIVALS BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER THE OPEN-ERA.
      Its well documented that women's tennis was not really affected by the Open-era thing... if you look at all the names in grand slam tournaments before and after the Open Era, its the same top names competing... I did my research on this subject as I had the same incorrect thinking as you and found out that Margaret Court's 24 slam record is a legitimate record unaffected by the Open Era thing.
      In fact, another misconception about Court's record is that top players did not used to compete at AO allowing Court to win 11 of them. But upon research, I found out that she had to beat grand slam winners for 7 of her 11 AO.. only 4 of her AO were against a non-slam-winner player. If we use her win rate of 7 out of 8 wins against slam winners at the AO finals and apply it to the 4 weak field AO titles, she would still get at least 3 out of the 4, which means she would stand at 23 slams, still 1 ahead of Graf.... furthermore, her singles grand slam wins are a lot more impressive superhuman feats than Graf's singles slam wins because she had to deplete double the amount of her energy due to simultaneously also competing and winning a lot of doubles and mixed doubles during the same tournaments while Graf fully concerntrated all her energy to focus solely on winning the singles event.

      Please darling, practising is totally different from competing ... facepalm.
      No tennis players would go all out during practise because they need to avoid injuries, over exhaustion... they will only reserve their all out efforts for the real matches itself ...
      You're getting ridiculous in your rhetorics ... how strange that Graf keeps attracting irrational fans who will make up crazy theories to keep her false image intact ... hahaha
      Not everyone remembers the stabbing event, sadly, especially the younger generations. For those who do remember that momentus event, we all know deep in our hearts that Seles was the real dominant player of that era, not Graf because Seles did beat Graf repeatedly at Grand Slam finals ...

      It does not matter what percent, what matters is she replaced Graf as the most dominant player and beat Graf in 3 out of 4 slam finals (could have been 4 out of 4 if she has not be pressured into suppressing her grunting in the 1992 Wimbledon final against Graf) ..
      No one knows if she would later become more or less dominant if the stabbing had not occurred but one thing for sure is that Graf would have much less than her 22 slams and Seles would have at least double digit slams, thats almost 100% certain to be the case ...

    • @88feji
      @88feji Před 3 lety +1

      +Ilya Kuryakin
      I really do not take Graf vs Seles h2h after 1993 seriously ... as far as I'm concerned, only their h2h before the stabbing is the real deal, its not fair to include their h2h after the stabbing where Seles is suffering all sorts of post traumatic effects from the stabbing ...
      Its up to you to call it a slum whenever Steffi loses to her top rivals, all fans behave the same, they would not give due credits to the opponent whenever their idols loses, why am I not surprised ?
      As for myself, I'm willing to concede that Seles lose to a better player as long as she is not subjected to unfair rules or physical violence ...
      Regarding Martina vs Steffi, Martina actually have some records that leaves Graf very far behind, for example she had oustrips Graf;s singles tournament wins by more than more than 50% of Graf's total, that is even more mind boggling when you consider that Martina had to also waste double the energy to participate and win the doubles and mixed doubles events at the same tournaments she take part in ... Martina, together with Courts and Evert, are just supherhuman women that the rest of the women's players can never touch terms of their physical endurance and fitness ...
      Mind you, when Martina lost to Graf in those grand slam finals, she came into those matches having exerted herself to the limits in gruelling matches of the doubles and mixed doubles events that Graf had the luxury to watch from the comfort of her bedroom while recuperating energy ...
      Graf is great too, mind you i do admire Graf's graceful strokes and powerful forehands. I just think its not right to put Graf so high up when something so significant happened to her main rival so unfairly ..

    No doubt that if Monica wasn’t stabbed that day, it would her record that Serena is trying to break today! The whole story is sad from the actual stabbing to the players voting to take her number one ranking away, lose endorsements, Steffi not following up with her and the man not downing a day in jail! We can’t control what may happen to us in life but we can control how we deal with it! Monica is a true champion on and off the court for her to still win even one more grand slam and continue to play great tennis and be an inspiration to many including myself shows just that!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯💯

    • @JeremyM2
      @JeremyM2 Před 4 lety +3

      Ilya Kuryakin and you want to deny that a person who won 8 grandslams before being stabbed by a Graf supporter maniac didn’t derail her career. Monica Seles was 19, very much still a kid. You sound crazy.

    • @JeremyM2
      @JeremyM2 Před 4 lety +1

      Ilya Kuryakin Monica said out of her own mouth that the eating binge came as a result of the stabbing and and magnified after her dad was diagnosed with cancer. Steffi won 21 of her slams by 1996. Monica missed 10 grandslams during that period and Steffi benefited winning 6 out of the 10 slams. I won’t go as far saying that she would have the record although it was very much possible, but I will say that the 22 slams that Steffi has would not have happened had Monica not been stabbed. You’re not understanding the “Cause and Effect”. You know what “Cause and Effect” means? Her dad getting cancer wouldn’t have made her not compete from 1993-1995 missing 10 slams. The STABBING did.

    • @JeremyM2
      @JeremyM2 Před 4 lety

      Ilya Kuryakin Steffi still won slams during those years. And you’re still missing the point. Monica didn’t compete in 10 grand slams due to the stabbing. The binge eating especially that early in her career wouldn’t and didn’t stop her from winning slams, however someone attempting to kill her so that their favorite player can be at the top of the rankings and not even having to spend jail time WOULD. We can continue to agree to disagree but everyone except Graf stans know that Monica had huge potential to be the best had she not been stabbed. What made me comment in the first place was you saying that she only won her slams due to weak competition. You can love Steffi, her history in the sport won’t change. However, don’t bring down a great player just to bring up another.

    • @JeremyM2
      @JeremyM2 Před 4 lety

      Ilya Kuryakin she had a binge eating disorder and was still beating your fav in slams. Do you get that? She was stabbed and stopped playing tennis missing 10 GRAND SLAMS. Got it? Serena is the GOAT, no argument there. And Grafs competition was weaker if the girl she was 1-3 against in “grandslam finals” the biggest moments before being STABBED was out of competition allowing Graf to win 6 out of 10 slams.

      Seles lost to Graf only due to being pressured to suppress her grunting, its unfair because nowadays grunting is regarded as a normal part of tennis, top players and lower ranked players often grunt ..
      Are you crazy, Seles was 4-3 against Graf since she won her first slam and before the stabbing, it could have been 5-2 if not for being forced to suppress her grunting during wimbledon 1992 and you cannot count her early losses to Graf as she had just turned professional in her first few tournaments ...

      I think she would have won HEAPS more grand slams, but i'm not sure about Hingis and Venus. They really had her number even at an early age, she always struggled against them. Which is why it was even sadder she didn't win the RG title after finally vanquishing Hingis and losing her father. Venus' game before all the injuries was kind of like an upgraded version of Monica's and just too powerful and fast. However certainly many players' careers would have been less significant, more like the Graf/Huber/Davenport/Pierce/Martinez/Sanchez Vicario/Coetzer/Novotna generation.

    • @Cyndimansfield
      @Cyndimansfield Před 4 lety

      @@POObumpoopo I think you have a lot of factors you need to weigh in here.. Monica had no time to adjust to any advancing threat Monica could of watched the threats and seen them coming. Monica gave them a good game regardless but the games would of looked differently with no stabbing and a load more grand slams under her belt. since she was stabbed and had to mount a comeback instead. Plus your. Not weighing in her father dieing he may well have had a longer life of Monica was not stabbed even plus she would of lost a lot of motivation . Instead of being on top of the world a world beater. She was paired together with a loser like Gunter parch and put in a hospital ward . She had millions and millions and already won everything the motivation would of been for different reasons . She could’ve been what Serena Williams is now, she was playing an effective power tennis when the term was not even mainstream in the sport. So at the time 90-93, she was already playing in a style 5 years ahead of her time. Hard hitters didn’t get as good as Monica until the late 90s and early 2000s with the Williams sisters, the Belgian girls and the Russian ladies dominating the sport with their aggressive ground strokes. Lindsay Davenport was the only power tennis player who was dominant in the 96-99 era, which was still mostly ruled by either Graf or Hingis.

    • @88feji
      @88feji Před 3 lety

      Seles did beat Martina Navratilova in a Wimbledon grass match, during those days Martina was still able to beat other grass court specialists like Jana Novotna, that proves that Seles was already a great grass court player before the stabbing. The only reason she lost the Wimbledon final to Graf in 1992 was because she was suddenly pressured to stop her grunting during match play out of peer pressure. That affected her power game and strategising as grunting had been a natural part of her game for a long time ... I'm sure she can handily beat Graf if she had been allowed to play her natural game ... Grunting is accepted as a natural part of tennis since then so looking back it was not fair to pressure Seles to suppress her grunting then ...
