    Great video! Thanks for sharing! I've been considering one of these for some time. I'm hopefully selling my 690 Duke today and maybe one of these will replace it.... Cheers! 🍻🇺🇸🏍

    I have a 2017 690 that has been very reliable for me. I don’t get off-road that often. I use it for commuting to work and quick trips to the shops. It’s a fantastic city bike and handles the rough roads with ease while making the trip to work a lot of fun. I was wearing out the knobby tires very quickly on the road so I switched to a set of Dunlop missions and they have been great. I have a 1995 Harley and a 2004 GSXR 750 but the 690 has become my go to bike for everything but the longer rides. I’m in my mid fifties but I feel 10 years younger whenever I throw a leg over the 690. What more could you ask for from a motorcycle?

      Thanks for the great comment. I wish I could have more bikes, my marriage commitment restricts me to one ;)
      It’s funny you ask, I’ve been looking for a better cruise control. I’m investigating this one now: veridiancruise.com/products/ktm-690-enduro-smc-cruise-control-14-20
      I am planning on a winter trip soon(NoCal) and would like to relax more on the straights.
      BTW, I hope to do another review soon of my winter setup. Highlights will include a diesel heater/tent setup.

    Duuuude!?!? Torque labels? Genius!!!!!

    I was with you about the OEM air filter until I found dust on the inside of the airbox. This is a common problem and well documented online forums. Poor airbox seal in a number of areas. Have since changed to the Rade foam air filter. Hate the extra intake noise but less likely to get dust in the intake. Next time that you remove the air filter, wipe a white paper towel inside the airbox and see what you find.

      Hey Eric,
      The forums you visited may not have mentioned that the air box 6m screws need to be torqued to 2Nm or 1.5 lbs ft, which is barely anything. There are plenty of mentions in these forums of numb nuts over tightening them and pulling the inserts out. Given the above scenarios, there is a much greater chance of said owners nerfing the torque and off-setting the seal than a large team of Austrian engineers making a crappy air box. Agree to disagree but, thanks for watching.

      @@TheRatTravelsIf you can get the stock airbox to work without letting dust in, then I'm all for it and it would have been my preferred option. I should have mentioned that I have a new Gas Gas 700 untouched since leaving the factory and when I removed the air filter for the first time after only a few off road rides was disappointed with the dust that I found inside the airbox. You can buy a pre-filter for the stock airbox that may make the situation better but it is what it is.

      Hi Eric,
      Like I said in the video, personally have not had a problem with mine. My valves are in spec and I do not have dust. I had a bad clutch slave when purchased. There have never been recalls on any air boxes from KTM that I know of. Torque settings are so important on these bikes. I do all the maintenance on mine and have 30 years of car maintenance/engine rebuild experience. Now I’m not saying this is you but, there are always, always, guys wrenching and wrecking things and then blaming it on a bad design. You have to have a specific torque wrench for these low settings or know what 1.5 lbs ft is. I do use a silicone faucet grease on any rubber seals, a habit going back to my water treatment days. Maybe this makes a difference? I don’t know. I will keep an eye out for what you’re talking about and start asking around.

    Thanks for the review! Do youe experience heat problems? Can you elaborate?

    • @TheRatTravels
      @TheRatTravels  Před 6 měsíci

      I have driven it in pretty hot weather with no problems. I had a situation where the heat light did come on when I was on a trail I had no business being on. I was reving it high and the light did come on for over heat but, it was pretty extreme and full throttled with dumping the bike a lot. I do change my oil every 3k miles, I think this helps.

    Your “view” on exhaust is easily defeated by dyno numbers. Theres simply no argument unless you’re happy making less power? Also dealing with a catalytic converter inside your factory exhaust comes with its own issues. Heat, for instance, is insanely high with the factory unit. So much so that it routinely melts plastics. Aftermarket negates that.

    • @TheRatTravels
      @TheRatTravels  Před 27 dny

      Got up at 4am this morning in Humboldt to do F6F060. Woke the whole camp ground up, so there’s that. Road noise on long hauls, I have to wear ear plugs, makes my headset useless. Aftermarket exhaust: I do enjoy the safety of being loud when splitting lanes, weight savings, and extra power. I’m still 🔥 shit up in back, not as bad but, still. As far as Dyno numbers, Dynos for the race track. Remember, it’s 90% rider. Save the money for Supermoto lessons. I’ll keep everything stock including the airbox it will keep my engine clean. An oiled filter will grind your Valves, it’s not as good. There’s your argument and congratulations, we’re both retards for arguing on the internet.
