To explain what is going on, the MVs have extra content to help show where they are in their lore. Otherwise, you’d have to read the diary entries in the albums for the full story…
In summary, their storyline involves themselves and their doppelgängers from another dimension (the Black Pirates, which the fandom lovingly named Halateez after the MV Hala Hala). The dimensions are A and Z. In the Z dimension (Strictland), the people are suppressed and there is no freedom of expression or emotion. Halateez traveled to dimension A (using the Cromer which looks like an hourglass) and came to Ateez for help. There’s A LOT more, but that will get you started.
Their storyline is extensive and is woven into almost EVERY MV, B-side, concert, and special stage. The only way to reeaallly delve into it would be to start from their debut double title tracks Pirate King and Treasure and work your way up. Also, there are Diary entries that make up a book that were included in each album. It tells the entire story from the beginning. There are both sites with all the Diary entries in order and videos where they are read to you with MV correlations.
