Here are some tips after following the Etaprime video guide. My advice is not to install wallchanger. To change the lockscreen without installing this app, simply disable the amazon services. Deactivate these following services: amazon offers, amazon newsstand, amazon games, amazon maps, freetime, goodreads, wps office, washington post, silk browser, prime photos, mopria print, help, contacts, email. You will then replace the disabled apps with those of the playstore.

This was very useful. Yeah wallchanger is busted on my HD8 2020 tablet. It does nothing but crash.
i tried your other videos and could never get gps to install and work properly.. even though as it was installing it said error for all the categories, when it completed and did the clean-up is said "ok".. works like a charm! great video as always!
Saw this and ordered a 2020 Fire HD8 for $60, downloaded Fire Toolbox 8.0 and went to work. I chose to remove all traces of Amazon everything. Afterward I too had the error msg w/the Wallchanger App. My chosen home & lock screen seems to go away when the tablet is unattended and goes to sleep/idle, and you re-awake it. You get the Wallchanger App screen instead. I have to reset the screen (if I want to bother) ...something finicky about that app for sure, minor issue. Small tweaks to Swiftkey keyboard to make perfect. Very pleased with Nova launcher and gonna check out Nova launcher prime ($5 @ playstore). One step I'm not sure was mentioned in this video that I believe warrants speaking to is selecting "Remove Lockscreen Ads" on Fire Toolbox 8.0, can be tricky for the novice (which I am, but had smooth sailing). I'm coming from a Samsung Tab 4 running Android 5, this Fire certainly feels much faster and smoother to me. Total time to do this? 10 minutes
Glad you updated this. I got the 2019 hd fire 10 and tried your old video and it didn't work. I had found the fire toolbox though and got it installed. I keep having an issue on occasion where google play will fill my internal storage and I have to empty the cache on it. Very strange.

Oooh, custom launchers are actually a thing by now? Really cool little tool~ I was okay with having just the Play Store on my HD 10, but getting rid of all the other annoyances would be even better.
On my previous gen HD8 the Google services install showed Error at every step, but it still installed everything correctly, so if you see an errors just let it ride out the process. This was a lifesaver because my previously sideloaded Google services were out of date, and I hadn't been able to find a new set of APKs that would install on my device.
I found that after installing Google Play, the tablet gets a little slow. I returned it to factory settings.
What model do you have? The HD 8 or HD 8 plus?
i installed it on my hd 10 no issues i didn't use his way i did it the other way install apk

A Really Great and Easy to follow video! Thank you. A Question though, If you have a choice, is it preferable or Better to download an app from the Amazon Appstore, OR the Google Playstore? I already have an Amazon Fire for 2 months now. I have the idea that If I download a particular app form the Amazon store , the app will works smoother than from the Playstore. Your technical opinion Please.

This looks interesting, and the hassle of getting Goggle play on the Fire tablets has kept me from buying one. But I wonder how long it will be before there is a mandatory update that patches out this "upgrade avenue".
If you don't want to go through all this and just want to leave the Fire as-is, but have Google Play, you can just install the Google Play Store by downloading four .apk files. Updates won't remove access and all the apps I've tried work great! There's lots of tutorials for doing this out there and it just takes a few minutes at most.

Awesome video...I tried downloading version 8 of the toolbox and it didn't work on my 10th gen Fire HD8 but v7.2 worked!
Easy option is to download the apks for google services first and the play store second which you can do without a computer. Then download and load any launcher from the play store.
Personally I still have the ads on my lock screen. Is there something else I need to do?
I'd like to know too. Mine still has ads on lock screen as well.
@@DarqVenom Did you go to the 2nd page of the Toolbox? From the dev: "on the second page (click the ">" in the lower right hand side to get to the second page) you will find a tool called "Remove Lockscreen Ads" that should help you accomplish your goal." Try that. Note that I don't even have a Fire Tablet, but will probably purchase one soon hence why I'm here! Hope this helps.

You should do an update on actually trying to run WallChanger, because it doesn't work for me. I have a 2019 Fire 10. The "Amazon Prime Photos" option only sets one image to home and lock, regardless of what you select on a long press of the desktop in Nova Launcher. With Wallchanger, if I click "Single Image", it crashes. If I select the folder option, I get a black screen asking me to select the folder with an "up arrow" icon, an "ok" button, and a "cancel button". The "up arrow" does nothing. No menu or path is displayed on the screen, so maybe it's doing something and I just can't see it. Very curious if you have this issue too.

Can you test a few google play games on the new tablet. Eg Fornite, Call of Duty Mobile & even maybe xcloud. Also will you be testing some emulation ?
For a second adult profile, do you have to go through these steps again on it or is there other things we have to do?
I got the lowest end one I could because at the time they where half off. I was pretty disappointed with it since really all it could do was read books, but I’ll try this and see if it helps

Its a nice tablet if it had 4GB ram it would be a beast at that price, the mediatek mt8183 64bit CPU/Mali G72 combo is very good.

For people who have done this, for apps that show up in both App stores, do you update from Amazon or Google Play? For example, my Alexa app is updated in the Amazon App store by Google Play says it still needs to be updated.
Google play is the better method and updates come out first for google play. Or they used to.

Okay, I did all this but it keeps switching from nova launcher to fire launcher every time I hit the home button and settings to change it are gone / don't work...how do you fix this?

Great idea but I followed the steps ecactly but on google services each step returns red ERROR no description. Fire HD 8 is unlocked and developer mode and usb debugging is enabled

I'm going to factory reset today and try again as I did try to manually install the 4 google services last year and even though I've deleted them theres maybe some remnamce left behind. Fingers crossed 🙂

The launcher does not work properly on the Amazon Fire HD 8 (2017), Because the launcher activation method (Disable Fire Launcher) is not available in that model.

I am going to use the tool, but my new Fire HD 10 tablet (2019) wants to update to 7.3.1.6 from 7.3.1.2. Should I do that update first - even people tell it is full of bugs? How does the changes from the tools box interact with updates at all? Are they overwritten and have to be repeated or can Amazon even block the tool? Or are the updates problematic and might lead to a brick?

It’s not letting me update my wallpaper🥺 I go to the wallpaper settings on my table (the original one) and it doesn’t let me update the wallpaper. When I added the wallpaper feature it didn’t give me the chance to choose a wallpaper platform.

@ETA PRIME I followed the instructions from this video and downloaded the Fire Toolbox for my * Amazon Fire 8 (2018) tablet onto my PC, however when I try to sign into my Google Play App my 2 step verification comes up on my tablet and after I authorize it is me signing in on my android phone on my google acct Google play still doesn't open my Google play acct on my Amazon Fire 8 (2018) tablet and I can't use Google search App as my browser or my Google play Apps.. When I check settings it shows Google play apps are updated however under PLAY PROTECT CERTIFICATION it says Device is not certified. When I go into my google acct settings on my Android phone it shows me I'm logged into my Google acct on my Amazon Fire 8 (2018) tablet but my tablet just shows me the sign in screen for my Google play acct. I also noticed on my tablet at the bottom on my home screen it says "Wallpaper is not set correctly Relaunch the Wall-changer app. Have relaunched wallpaper app still says "Wallpaper is not set correctly Relaunch the Wall-changer app. I did choose download Nova Launcher during set up. I had to enable my Silk Browser after set up as Google Search App isnt working as my web browser. Not sure what I've done wrong. Also I noticed that my desktop downloaded both the Amazon Firebox V7.2 and V7.3 Can you please help me?

I thought this was too good to be true. I went through the entire video step by step as I was doing this install. When finished I logged into Google and it rolled over and asked me to log in again, and agaig, and again,....... The application never opens, it only asks for login. But after every login I get an email from Google letting me know I logged in from a new device. No Google play store on Amazon Fire HD8.
I tried on Fire 7 (9th gen) with Win10 and got ERROR. It installed Google Play anyway, but the tablet was really slow. Ending up just restoring to factory settings

Just Ran Program on HD 10 2017 Version and looks like it just hides Icon's doesn't actually disable them. Pretty sure you have to Root Device to have that option which this App currently does not do. Wish it did.

How do update Google play services?
I would like to keep a 'pure' Fire tablet, I already have put it on two older generations using the other method. I like the Amazon layout, I even don't mind the 'special offers'. I actually find them useful. If you want an Android tablet you should go ahead and buy one.
