The Dodge Charger Daytona 392 - A perfectly simple, silly machine

  • How can you not love this simple, silly machine? It's a pretty basic recipe, but one that I truly enjoy. Take a large V8 engine and have it send power to the rear. Add in room for friends, tremendous noise, comfortable seats, and you have a modern muscle car. That is the Dodge Charger Daytona 392.
    Paying homage to the Daytona name, you'll find a rear decal that harkens back to the old big wing cars. It's smartly done and the design evokes thoughts of that tall spoiler in silhouette fashion.
    Under the hood sits a 392 cubic-inch V8 engine. Here it cranks out 485 horsepower and supplies that out to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
    If you can't swing the extra dough required to bring home a Hellcat, then this 6.4-liter equipped beastie is a brilliant alternative. You won't save any money on tires though... because you'll be burning through them just like you would in the more powerful Hellcat.
    The Dodge Charger Daytona 392 is James Hetfield, the Car.

    Drove a rental RT recently and was surprised by how sorted the car felt. Despite all the online negativity about its weight (Yes sometimes you do sense it) but driving it up and around mountain roads was really fun. Transmission is very good for a standard road going car, Drivetrain was obviously the big pull factor. Interior is as bad as it seems but hey you cant get everything but then again there is so much space in this car. Long Story short, 5 days with the car and I was in love. Now I am missing it and watching charger videos hoping to own one someday

    I'm a little late to the party, but have to comment nonetheless. I have this exact car, except I have the Beats speakers. I previously owned a 15 Challenger with the Harmon Kardon. I would say they are comparable systems, with the Beats providing just a bit more bass from the door speakers. But that's actually where the problems start. The doors are not sound deadened enough to handle to extra bass, so you get all sorts of rattles. Especially with the window up/down and door lock switches. Everything else you say about the Charger and Challenger are 100% correct. Good vid man.

If I didn't have the money to buy the HC, I would get the Daytona 392 or SRT 392, those are really better values and a bit less insano machines but still awesome.

    Good video dude! I brought a black on black 2018 Daytona 392 a few months ago and immediately realized how stupid these cars are. But everytime I get in and hit start I become a kid again. She is a beast and demands respect from the driver and any car on the road. Don’t buy this car if you are worried about gas prices. Buy it because you want a piece of bad ass American muscle car pie. Then eat that damn thing everytime you get in. Watch everyone else break their necks seeing it drive by or just sitting in the parking lot!

    Fun video man!
    You're averaging 14 MPG? Oh no Mr. Bill! That's much better than I get in my daily driver Barracuda, but of course, I'm running 4.10 gears. Remember, it's not *miles per gallon* that's important, *smiles per gallon* is what matters... I'm going to be picking up my 392 Scat Pack Charger in a week, and the Barracuda gets to enjoy time off for a new suspension, engine, electrical, interior, a new fiberglass front clip AND... body and paint. It's certainly a rat rod now, but will end up with a matching paint scheme. White, satin black hood, and tomato red stripes.

  • @celatid6632
    @celatid6632 Před 6 lety +3

    It's the same as Scat Pack with the Dynamics pack (wider wheels/6 piston brakes) with some minor cosmetic differences....Stickers, dash trim, seat stitching pattern....
    Beware of those brakes (6 piston). Front Rotors/pads go for at least $2k just for the parts. The standard 4 piston Brembos are plenty good and allow me to get 18" winter wheels on there too.
    If you think the 275s are lacking traction, try the Scat pack with the stock all season 245s.
    Also, fuel mileage is pretty descent actually. In mixed driving without a bunch of hooning, I get 18.5 mpg on a tank. On the highway I've gotten as much as 24 mpg for the tank.

    I know you mentioned the Charger's exhaust was constantly loud and I think you may have even inferred it was "drone-y" without actually using the term. I have to say I own a 2018 Challenger SRT 392 and cruising the highway at "comfortable" speeds (let's say 75-80 MPH), I've never thought to myself the exhaust was too loud or that it droned. I've tried it both in Default and Sport modes. I wonder if the larger cabin of the Charger may cause more ambient noise? Ah well, no matter, like you said, it's a great soundtrack for driving (besides Pearl Jam, of course). By the way, another great review - love your style and attitude.

    For those of you looking to buy a 392 (Charger or Challenger) beware!!! Having owned a 2015 SRT Challenger and now a 2018 Scat Pack Charger w/ the dynamics package (SRT black wheels and 6 piston Brembo brakes), do yourself a favor and opt for the SRT. One simple and HUGE reason, the suspension is garbage on the Scat Pack, and I mean absolutely terrible! It's great for the track I suppose, but most of us will never drive this car on a track. Don't get me wrong, I love my car and the over looks and performance is second to none, but the suspension is awful! Did I mention the suspension sucks! haha!
