  • How to set up a dawless studio my way. I had a water leak in my studio. But with no serious damage. I took everything out, cleaned all the equipment and repatched everything. But I have more outputs coming from my gear than my Roland MX-1 mixer can handle. In this video I explain how I hook audio and MIDI for my Roland JP-8000, Arturia BeatStep Pro, Novation BassStation II, Waldorf Rocket, Korg Volca Beats, Roland TR-8, Roland JV-2080, Roland A-01 and Novation Circuit. Noooo!! Water leak! Good to hear the JP survived. Thanks also for talking through your set up. Very useful, as always.

    Sorry to hear about the leakage.
    As a mixer I find the Tascam DP24SD a very nice unit. Versatile and affordable.

      Yes, never fun. I was stressed to see if I had any damage with my gear. But Roland built the JP-8000 really well. It just keeps on going!

    Nooo not the JP 8000!
    Glad to hear it’s still working. I haven’t even set any of my gear up yet as i’m waiting for my desk to arrive.
    However after watching that i’ve figured out i can link my Aira equipment leaving me with 1 usb, hook my SH 201, JD XI and Modwave to 3 channels leaving me with 1 mono channel and 5/6 stereo.
    Question is where do i plug the MPC Force into?
    Am i getting warmer or would that be a completely different set up altogether?

    The Roland A-01 doesn't have a USB outlet you could send to the 4th USB input of the MX-1?

    If I were to plug in my SP404 MK2, expecting next week, into the AIRA USB port on the TR-8 or MX-1, will that work?

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  Před 2 lety +1

      I can’t find any info (in the manual) about it being compatible or not with the MX-1. But I’m pretty sure it cannot exchange audio using USB directly with the TR-8. The USB audio from the Roland devices are often for exchange with a computer (or a dedicated DAW). The MX-1 is unique in the Roland world. Being a mixer it can receive audio and exchange MIDI with aira devices. Maybe ask in a SP-404 Facebook group?

    • @velanche
      @velanche Před 2 lety

      @@Nu-trix Hey thanks! I put that question to the AIRA FB group with one answer, so far. I may hit up Roland support, sometime after registering my product. If nothing else, it’ll be the old school MIDI cable and using maybe EXT IN for the sound. Thanks!

    • @velanche
      @velanche Před 2 lety

      @@Nu-trix UDPATE - Well well, the knowledge base on Roland’s site is actually pretty useful. Accordingly, seems the SP404 MK2 does not have what is known as “AIRA LINK” support. But…..I hold out hope, but will send this as a feature request. FYI>

  • @markchristopher2signal2

    NU-TRIX, do you use the MX1 as a recording mixer to your DAW? I do.. but, I added the ONYX preamp.. The out of the MX1 goes to the input of the ONYX Preamp Mackie, ONYX preamp to sound card.. It's warmer. I can hear it(yeahh right lol but I sense an oomph)..

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Mark, I do use the MX-1 as a multi-input sound card I can understand why you would want to colour your sound. The Mackie preamp have been used for that. Some of the Prodigy albums have been passed through the Mackie 8Bus console just for the sound of it.

    Can you help!? I am considering getting an MX1 to go with my TR8 but have one question. Does the USB audio only send the master (and not the assignable outputs) from the TR8 to the MX1? Is it possible at the same time as using the USB audio, to send analogue audio signals from the assignable outputs to the analogue audio inputs of the MX1. EG - bass drum on assignable output 1 (into audio channel in MX1), snare on assignable output 2 (into audio channel on MX1), everything else through USB into USB channel on MX1 ? Thanks!!!

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  Před 3 lety +1

      When using the USB audio from the TR-8 (or TR-8s) the only signal being sent is the stereo main outputs of the TR. The separate USB signals are only available when connected to a computer.

      It's a filter that is part of TONE section of each tracks on the MX-1. I can't remember witch one of the 10 TONE options I used. It's one of the lLow Pass filter.

    Do you have any insight on a Dawless recording setup? I want to use something like a Zoom or Tascam handy recorder to just record the MX-1 directly but I'm a little confused. The Mix outs from the MX-1 are unbalanced right? So it doesn't matter if the recorders can handle line level? And then it's just standard TS mono cables not TRS or XLR right? In other words, I'm stuck. Help! Someone!

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  Před 3 lety

      If you are interested in stereo recording than any zoom, Tascam or Roland recorder can do it. The Mx-1 main outputs are unbalanced so they are line level.

    Im also thinking of going dawless for fun. You seem to have a lot of limitations with the MX1, in terms of inputs, eq etc - is there a reason why you wouldnt get a bigger mixing console, like lets say a A&H Zed16 or 24? those are not too expensive to be honest.

    • @Nu-trix
      @Nu-trix  Před 4 lety +2

      You are right about the fact that my kit is pushing the MX1 to its max (for the inputs section at least!). But there are 2 reasons why I try to keep everything in the MX1; 1- all inputs of the mixer are also audio input in the computer so it’s very efficient for multitrack recording when I ready for mixing. 2- the MX1 is a per romance mixer. You actually play it! The internal effect are tempo based and can be saved in scenes for on the fly recall. I’m looking at having a small synth sub mixer right now.

      EightySix, the JP-8000 survived. The MX-1 can be connected using USB to my computer and it then provide 17 ins and outs. I can record all the inputs as separate signals in my computer DAW.
