    How can refereeing associations accuse others of being an "embarrassment" when they claim to be anti-bully? With all due respect, English referees are some of the worst in world football and they're massively over protected. I mean, it's literally against the rules for managers to tell the truth about their performances in interviews, and if they do, they're fined. Tell the refs to get their ducks in a row and actually manage the game correctly and there won't be criticism, but to complain when they're already massively over protected is laughable.

      @@Akinwalesegun I think that’s reductive and naive. Part of the reason there is a lack of respect for officials that filters down the pyramid is that they don’t have any accountability. They’re seen as anti-football, like the teacher no one respects or wants to listen to in school because they seem so far detached from the experience of young people in their formative years. If officials took interviews after games, appeared human and had to justify their decisions in the way that managers and players do then I think respect towards them would grow and equally their egos may shrink to the point where they showed respect to the game also. In my personal opinion officials being abused at the grass roots level is all to do with the adults in those situations and although what’s seen at the highest level may impact behaviour at grass roots level, those individuals perhaps need to adjust their behaviour and not excuse it by saying it’s learnt behaviour. If you’re screaming abuse at officials who aren’t even paid or are paid very little in a non-professional setting then you’re a moron and that’s on you.

When you see the officials in rugby union and the support they get during a match it’s evident that football is years behind in terms of officiating. The technology is there they just choose not to apply it in the modern game, if they clean up the game the media will have nothing to talk about. Hence why VAR is a half baked effort and never improved upon they want the controversy to keep the media turning

    Fair point comparing to rugby refs , the behaviour towards them is much more respectful. My father is a former international referee and now works for Georgian rugby union training refs, his opinion is, if you mic them up it will change everyones behaviour on the pitch inc the referees

    I started referring at 14 in 1994 and what you see in grass roots now we saw back then. Okay it's not as bad as now but society has changed. Martin Cassidy needs to look at the real issues. The Fa's are the problems they don't refs at all. I quit after I was attacked and the Locsl FA did nothing. Cassidy needs to look at the real issues

    It's the passion that's always been in football, Neil Warnock is no worse than Fergie was, or Wenger, Klopp can be, Mourinho, even Pep, the list of Managers who are vocal or disrespectful towards refs isn't a new thing and it's part of the game. Rather than moan about it via the Media, just fine or ban like its always been. Refs can make mistakes, but it's clubs, fans, more so Managers who pay for their mistakes in the long run.

    It’s embarrassing how much protection the officials get. Week in week out they do a pathetic job - they get protected more than anyone else in the game. They don’t lose their jobs when they make consistently poor decisions, they aren’t scrutinised nearly as much as the players after a game and they take no responsibility. They aren’t interviewed straight after a game, they never justify their decisions publicly and they think they’re above people like Neil Warnock who have actually impacted the sport and achieved things. If they were interviewed after games, were fitted with a microphone during play and were punished for poor decisions more firmly then managers and players would show their displeasure less towards them. The officials get an easy ride whilst doing an abysmal job.

    Referee representative asking Warnock why he didn’t have a go at Charlie Austin during the game. Because that’s the referee’s job, and I’m sure if Warnock had stepped in from the dugout he would have got himself in trouble. Let’s face facts here, the quality of refereeing in the English Leagues is a disgrace and not up to the quality required.
    If Warnock’s behaviour encourages others to do the same as him, then good. Best way for refs to avoid this is to do a decent job rather than hiding behind their union.

  • @jtmmmm27
    @jtmmmm27 Před 2 lety

    My unpopular opinion: referees should be paid more to attract better professionals to the positions. They currently earn average the same as a decent tradesperson who does their x years training and have no pressure.
