Cassia Eller died in 2001, you're right when you say she is in a 90's armosphere, this is 1998. Her Voice is too low for a girl, but she's impressive. Now, you should see her singing "partido alto", her interpretation os totaly blow mind.

What you heard at 05:05 was she doing a car engine which matches the lyrics said just before it: i drive my car/ dirijo meu carro. Curiosidade: Cassia eller em um dos rocks in rio tocou nirvana e Dave grohl que iria tocar algumas horas depois ficou louco. E na hora do show da banda dele os foo fighters ele a chamou pro palco. Pq nirvana era referência musical pra ela.

Some say that Cássia is the most important post-Elis (Regina) female singer in Brazil.
2:58 This was a big hit, but this recording is later (MTV Acoustic if I'm not wrong), Almost all 80's Brazilian bands (Eller is from early 90's this record if from early 00's) have recorded one 'MTV acoustic' and in some cases it's the best produced album in their careers.
This song was composed by a duo (Cazuza and Frejat) from an important Brazilian Band (Barão Vermelho) to another singer, that didn't like the song. It was 'forgotten' for about 6 years... Cássia Eller toke it and it make it a commercial success and his signature song.
When Cassia died she was married with other woman (Maria Eugênia), but at the time those unions was not fully recognized by Brazilian law. After her death her father tried to get the custody of his grandson (son of Cassia) but the Brazilian justice had recognized the right of Maria Eugênia to get the custody, it was the first time in Brazil that it had occurred (a same sex partner get the custody instead of a Grandfather of Grandmother). Nowadays his son is also a singer/writer (Chicão).

This is a really important figure in music history in Brazil, she was known for this "female-male" appearence, that it is also present in her voice. She had a tragic end, because of drug abuse, but she still is a landmark in Brazil culture. Cassia Eller it is one of the godsess of brazilian rock! And I think all your inferences are correct, she is from the late 80's and 90's, inspired by Nirvana and also Dire Strites. She was such an incredible and unic singer, was friends with cazuza, Renato Russo from legião, she also recorded some covers form other rockers in her time, "lanterna dos afogados" from paralamas and "por enquanto" from the first album of Legião Urbana, scuh a beautiful song about "saudade" wich is a very particular word and feeling for us brazilians...
This video is from her MTV Unplugged album. Cassia was an amazing singer, unfortunately she passed away just a few months after the CD of the show was launched.She was known before that CD/DVD but she got national fame with it- too bad she couldn’t enjoy the new wave of shows and fans for too long.

Cassia Eller died in 2001. Great loss for Brazilian Rock and Roll. She had a peculiar style to perform some great Brazilian composers. This song she was singing was composed by Cazuza (he died in 1990) .
