I Built a $150 Custom Mechanical Keyboard with Amazon

- We all know how long GMK wait times are, and some keyboard group buys can take many months. However, more and more keyboard parts are finding their way to Amazon, and it got me thinking: can you build a fully custom keyboard using just Amazon? Turns out, yes you can!
But I don't necessarily recommend that you do. If you're on a tight budget I think it's fine, but you can get the same/similar parts for cheaper from Aliexpress or other vendors, just have to wait a few weeks. If you have a $200-$300 budget, you're better off buying Krytox or Tribosys from one of the many vendors that offer it today. For the case, get one of the injected molded options if you want plastic (KBD67 lite, NK65ee, Ikki68, etc.), for metal get something like the Bakeneko, Phantom, Tofu, GMMK Pro, etc. For the keycaps, more and more vendors are stocking PBT keycap sets, or pre-orders with shorter wait times.

Dude that legit sounds very good. Budget boards have come such a long way. Great work on the video man
This build is nice man! I'd love to see a follow-up video where you try a bunch of different mods on this one to improve the sound

Love me some budget builds (awesome video as always Jimmy)!
On a side note: "Happy Balls" might as well be the best keycaps set name ever!!! 🤣
waiting on your next banger Sam!
i may or may not have bought it also for the name 👀
@@jimmynguyen973 How could you not?!? LOL...
PS: I'm behind schedule as always 😂
@@IOSam i gave up on having a schedule 😅
Love the video. I just found your channel and I like the stuff that you make. I'll definitely subscribe.
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Great vid
Another great video from that boy jimmy!
🙏🙏
Also, for more experienced lubers, amazon sells 0.5 oz tubes of krytox 205/4/6g2 lube which works great as a thick lube.
This video is the anti-group buy. Tired of waiting 6 months for your board and a year for your gmk set? Rage buy an entire build on Amazon and have it done 3 days later.
It sounds so nice for this price
wow, that sounds amazing!! Edit: Drop is now selling gmk keycaps on amazon like the red samurais!
TAYTO POG! My first trip into the custom scene was to mod out an Amazon board like this. I ended up putting tangies in it and it actually sounds quite crisp 💪
nice! which board did you mod?
would these switches by Akko or the purple pandas work with pudding keycaps? I really want a solid tactile switch but I'm worried about the rgb shine through being uneven or blocked
You are so underrated 😁
put some like neoprene foam inside it, and maybe try some mods to how the pcb is mounted, that thing could sound even better.
I have no clue how your channel is not bigger. Great quality videos. Do you have a discord?
Thank you! I don't have a discord server, I'm not sure if the keyboard community needs another server.
I want to follow this build, for a first time custom keyboard build, I like the sound, the price, and how it's all on Amazon. Will this satisfy my expectations in comparison to the video sound test?
and a tip for the next time , you should do the holee mod, foam mod and the tape on PCB mod if you don't know what that is you can look it up on youtube
My first amazon board was the rk61…….foamed with kiwis sounds amazing!
Ha. Me too! Lubed Gat Milky Yellows (205g0) and some Banggood keycaps. Deep sounding…
where did you get that jar for the switches??
What container do you use for your switches
A heads up, they aren't cheap, but tecsee diamond is stunning
Great video! Where did you get that adorable little desk light guy? I’d love to get one :) thanks!
Thank you! You can google “tayto desk lamp”
ruby, sapphire , jelly white ... Where is the mechanical switches heading to ?
Tecsee also has a diamond switch that features uhmwpe housing and stem with a 63.5g 2-stage spring. I think you can purchase them through their instagram page. Personal opinion: kinda muted bottom out and has a weird topping out sound, probably cos the stem is made from uhmwpe. Benefits alot from stem swapping to a long pole pom stem like say the purple panda stem or boba stem.
I wish it was on Amazon
Where do I buy krytox 2o5
I did something like this with the gk64x!
Because my parents doesn’t trust other websites besides amazon. I really wanna get boba u4t’s but they will never be on amazon. 😢
I just put the Tecsee Sapphires in my RK84 and purple pandas waiting to give a try
will akko jelly blacks work with this build??????????
Can someone recommend me a good prebuilt for 150€? I just want a keyboard to play, some school stuff and some writing stuff oh and it should be TKL
Genuine question. Why does no-one buy the nimbleback from the official ltc website isn't it cheaper there?🤔
Well for this video the purpose was to do an all amazon build. But I’m general, same reason why people buy stuff on Amazon: fast shipping & product discovery
Lol I have been using the gliging lube for a while cuz I’m to scared to order from other websites
Can I follow this tutorial but using the Purple panda switches??
yup
Are akko rose switches as good as macha or worse?
not better or worse, just different. it has a longer stem pole so it will bottom out sooner than the matcha, and it has a lighter spring so it will take less force to push down.
Nice build! I'm seriously curious as to whether the Gliging 205g0 is just white-labelled Krytox 205g0. I know some people who tested them side by side (albeit not super scientifically) and didn't find them to be that noticeably different. If this is the case, the current offering of 2x10g of 205g0 for $16 after coupon is insane.
ill have to do more tests with it, but from my initial impressions with it on this build, doesn't seem to be white labeled and i found krytox gives more of that buttery feeling, but the gliging lube would work for someone who isn't super picky about that stuff / isn't comparing it side by side. there could also be some of my biases at play here, so blind tests are def needed.
Interesting. Thanks for the reply! I might do a video comparing them in the future.
@@Brudder ill look forward to it!
It is just Krytox 205g0, Gliging is just the company that sells it on Amazon, they have a lot of other keyboard accessories.
@@simeona3962 do you know for sure? It seems like a different mix to me, reminds me of the lube I bought from an Asian country a couple years ago (can’t remember wha site but im pretty sure it’s no longer up)
Ruby and gold are good tecsee

3) Buget oriented build
Forgot the "d" bro
Looks like an RK 68 plus
Very good video Jimmy🇻🇳🇻🇳
i commented on the video about the springs but it was 8 months ago and i don’t think you will check .so i have a boba gum switches keyboard but the stock springs are too heavy for typing and gaming and i’m not sure what to switch to and add on thic thoc springs isn’t available for my region
what springs do you have available? tx springs, sprit springs, durock springs will work as well.
@@jimmynguyen973 but what grams do you prefer more and what millimeters and thank you so much for replying
@@zonghanlee776 i use 65g, 15mm+
@@jimmynguyen973 thank you
really want a custom keyboard but I doubt my mom will allow me to order lube
the best lube from amaon is the glourious one u should have tried that
G lube is to thin for liner switches and stabs
@@HoaiNguyen-mm9ze THIS COMMENT WAS FROM FUCK!NG HALF A FR!CKING YEAR AGO!!!!!!! DONT FUCK!NG REPLAY TO A COMMENT IF ITS MORE THAN 2 WEEKS OLD
He's building a budget board but he's throwing all that stuff in the trash sadge
Mmmmmm, happy balls. Nice video as always
Ah yes budget = $150. Cool
$150 for a full custom keyboard is amazing. You really can't get any cheaper, unless you want a scratchy grotesque sound, you have to be willing to spend up to $300-$400 if you want the best.
cm64 with 25-70 dollar switches, the “gk61 with gateron yellows”, the meructio 40% board, etc.
But
it's north facing switches :(
its ok, rgb will give me more frames
Lct lol 😂😂😂😂😂😂!
Guys don’t lube ur stems like that. 🤦♂️
tub lubing is great. even coating, saves time, only downside is getting some on the stem.
Happy balls :)⚪⚪⚪⚫⚫⚫🔵🔵🔵🔴🔴🔴
theree is krytox 205go on amazon, if not there is some on european amazon
