      It was Toyota biggest mistake but at the same time one Thier undying successful creation, for me they could have release the aluminum version at Detroit while working on next gen of it.
      Like Elon with Tesla the LFA could have been at the top and still make money back for the company .

    • @lancercool1992
      @lancercool1992 Před 10 měsíci +12

      Stop thinking it’s unfortunate, they never expected it to sell, the car was made to send a message, it did its job.
      I also doubt it really took 15 years to develop given the isf had to be developed by a small group of engineers using off work hours out of pure passion and keep the whole thing a secret from management, UNPAID.
      Then the LFA gets released 4 years after the gen 1 ISF? Hmm?
      The isf and gs are the true unfortunate ones to get axed because consumers can’t recognize a good car to save their lives.

    As for the GTO. Being an owner of one myself i have to say it wasn't overengineered, it just had a ton of cool gimmics. Almost all gtos today have at least half of the tech broken or otherwise not working. Some people even say the tech like the AWS and Active Aero makes the car slower on track.
    Oh and the fact that some replacement parts are literally impossible to buy today. The only thing keeping these cars on the road is the small community driven aftermarket scene that produce and distribute parts at a premium

    • @anonimous2451
      @anonimous2451 Před rokem +7

      Yep, that is what happens to ANY high tech car. Because the suppliers of the parts stop making them. Electronics, while fancy and nice when new, can and usually do end up being the straw that broke the camel's back cause it'll break your damn wallet. I owned one for 3 months and got rid of it quickly. And the reason, it was the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 AWD hard top convertible. One of the rarest cars ever made, but, I had a minor issue with a minor part that ended up being a damn nightmare. The car was a Blast to drive, held the road like cat's paws even in the snow and it had a very respectable collector market price. I sold it for 6k more than I got it for after a few engineering fixes. but I also knew those fixes would not last so I dumped it.

      I agree, it's a nice car, i've driven one as my wedding car. However it's very expensive to run, consuming up to 30L/100km and with rare and expensive spare parts. Half of the stuff on this car wasn't working either (Aircon, ABS, Active aero)

The car didn't stop pulling at 135, I chickened out. Mind you I was a teenager at the time. We would have kept the car but it started falling apart about 3 years later. The Porsche 959 cost twice as much to develop & engineer than Porsche sold it for.
    The Lexus LFA was in development & engineered for a decade.
    I agree with you on the 1st gen Mitsubishi GTO too, it was so advanced & over engineered.
    I think the 3rd gen Honda Prelude 4WS was also a over engineered car because Honda designed it with a mechanical 4WS system, rather than the electronic version they put on later model's.
    It allowed the car to four wheel steer constantly rather than when the electronics would detect when it needs to.
    It allowed the car to have a faster slalom speed than any supercar or hypercar available, best thing is - to this day there has been no faults of the mechanical 4WS system that this gen Prelude has.
    The only other car's missing that was over engineered was the Saab 900 Turbo & McLaren F1.
    The McLaren's engine bay was lined with gold because gold was the best heat reflector available at the time & it was the first carbon fiber bodied car.
    It also still holds the highest top speed from a naturally aspirated car & set the record for the highest top speed on launch.

There was so much nonsensical crap we pulled out of that car. Oh man, after we were done, it was 225 lbs lighter and was crankin out 730hp with over 650 ft lbs of torque. It wasnt a race car either, it was a daily driver that just felt so right after we were done. It still had an awesome interior and was such a joy to drive. You know...if it actually serves a purpose and is effective, then it's not really "over-engineering"

    Sorry, late comment here. Ok one of the most over engineered cars I know also the one that a lot of people love it, the Ferrari Testarossa, here’s why:
    When you open the door, there’s an automated thing that moves around the door frame from the back of your seat which you later hang one of the seat belts on. As soon as you closed the door, it automatically run back to where it’s original at along with the belt, it’s very safe tho. Also it can reach 322 kmph with only 350hp and around 1700 kg of weight. Most modern cars don’t have these over engineered aero calculating anymore. About the seat belt thing, there’s a POV driving this car on CZcams.

    1. VW Phaeton. VW was so hellbent on making it a luxury car that they enlisted the help of their newly purchased company, Bentley. It even shares its engine with the Continental.
    2. Nissan GTR. Also so hellbent on making the best bang for buck sports car, they enlisted the help of Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator and CEO of Polyphony Digital, who makes the Gran Turismo game series. The GTR also uses an infotainment system made to look exactly like the UI from the then new GT game, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
    3. Mercedes W124. Mercedes intended to make this vehicle as reliable as physically possible. Some third world countries still employ the vehicle as a taxi.
