This is a very well done demonstration! You are a very talented teacher! I can actually follow along with you, not too fast, not too slow, and you describe exactly what you are doing. I have been struggling to find a video that actually shows how to write each individual letter. I am hoping there are more! Now I need those pens, they must be magical.
That was truly lovely. A friend of mine did Calligraphy and he showed me some strokes. He did menus, certificates and invitations. It was one of his strongest skills. He used an ink bowl and a brass pen with a slot in it. This was in the 70's. I've done posters and advertisements and I want to add Calligraphy to my arts. Thank you for a fantastic demonstration!

This is the style of calligraphy that I learned how to do in high school art class 41 yrs ago. I still use it to this day.

Great video, I love the Italic alphabet, and you make it look so easy and smooth.
Sidenote: I headed over to the Sakura side to download the guidelines, and what I missed was a printout of the whole alphabet like they have for Blackletter or Brushlettering. That would be a great addition.

As a guitar player, I feel apathetic towards calligraphy because I remember how my fingers wouldn't do what I wanted them to do. You'd think 12 years in grade school would increase muscle memory and maybe it's helped, but I understand how hard this is going to be. Relearning how to write, ughhhh. I want to learn it but I don't want to work on it. Wish I could just plug myself into matrix and learn this. Well, here we go again... Thanks for the video!

Hi, Im just starting our and am a leftie also. I have found so far that I need to do things a little differently. Only another leftie understands our problems. I have ordered some left handed pens - I hope they help.
David Williams hi there, I'm just starting with the italic but i think the "v" and the "w" must to be written in a diferent way, anyway i just started two months ago and i found this vídeo very very useful. If you wanna have a lettering or calligraphy friend just let me know.
I am a leftie! Yes, it is different. You will find it easier after spending a couple of hours practicing with the way you write. Then go from there to follow her. Just received my pack of pens today and after about 6 hours, I am getting use to it.

Hi Joanne. Where can I download the italic Calligraphy alphabet uppercase and lowercase?
I thought this was going to be a little bit easier than regular copperplate calligraphy. I cannot get any variation in the swooshy curves in these letters, it all just looks like straight lines. How do I fix this?
I wish I could print out the letter groupings so I can practice without the computer. Where can I find that?

It looks to me like a sketch pen. She says it's a 3mm Pigma Calligrapher. I don't think we have these in general stationary stores in India, probably need to go to speciality stores...

Its really nice the tutorial but, when I try to write with your caligrapher, its very hard to try write with it: the ink doesnt flow properly, the calygrapher stop in the paper and the letters are incomplete. With a little o more pressure its the same situation.
