  • I cannot stop myself from making my zippered slip pockets with overlays now that I've unlocked the magic trick to using them! They are so easy! I don't even have a SVG cutter anymore (ok, so some poor decisions were made). Take a look at how easy this is, step by step!

      I love that the YT community doesn't have this weird competition between creators. We all have different ways of teaching and explaining how things work. Everyone benefits from the differing perspectives! On Twitch, there's a lot more "drama" when streamers do the same or similar things as it's a fight for live viewers.

    • @fiercekittenz

      The tape is Tandy Leather's 1/4" leather tape. The vinyl and the pattern are proprietary - just mine and not for sale.

      @fiercekittenz  Před rokem

    Doesn’t this leave the zipper only supported by the vinyl overlay? What prevents that from tearing?

    • @fiercekittenz

      No, it is also sewn into the panel of the bag when you topstitch both inner and outer portions.

  • @AChippendale

    This is a super useful and very amusing tutorial. Could you do another using fabric rather than vinyl? Or at least give some advice? Bunching corners and hours of my life lost trying to make welts look professional. I like this technique and am going to try it today!

    • @fiercekittenz
      @fiercekittenz  Před rokem +3

      So for the overlay you'd definitely want to stick to vinyl or leather. I wouldn't advise doing anything with canvas or wovens in general there. You could put this on top of woven though and not worry about any of the raw edges showing. They'll get encased! In fact, I did several leading up to this tutorial that were in canvas.

    • @AChippendale
      @AChippendale Před rokem

      @@fiercekittenz not even with some stabiliser and thermo-collant ? I've been doing experiments with fusing fabric to plastic to see how it behaves. I think it's possible but it would have to be very stable and not frey. But I just need to try. That's the part of bag making I really love is solving problems, finding new and better techniques. Just found your channel and I'm really enjoying the tutorials. Let your freak flag fly.

    Would this work on a large scale? Like putting it over the main zipper of a duffle bag?

    • @fiercekittenz
      @fiercekittenz  Před rokem +2

      I haven't tried, but I wouldn't see why not - you'd probably just put vinyl strips next to the zipper on either side instead of doing what I've done here though.
