You’re spot on. The Apocalypse Trilogy is about global warming/the environmental crisis (which, in itself, also has an element of class disenfranchisement). Maison is fairly literal, bringing attention to environmental disaster. Vision, the next song, is a call to action and inspiring to fight against those causing the climate change and the fall of society. Bon Voyage, the final song, is a poignant love letter to Mother Nature.. an apology to the planet, goodbye to earth but a promise to return and do better.
Fun fact.. a lot of CGI was used in Maison to cut down waste that comes about from filming an MV.
If you’re both into gaming or mysteries/puzzles.. right now Dreamcatcher have released their mystery code for their comeback in November. It’s an active ARG involving fans deciphering clues, referencing old MVs, lore, symbols.. clues hidden in QR codes at live fan signs, the members dropping hints, even clues in behind the scenes filming.. very much a horror vibe. It’s the coolest way to announce a comeback and I’ve never seen anything like it in Kpop!

In the opener for 'Maison', Yoohyeon popped through a portal and landed hard, making a small impact crater. She can handle it because in the storyline, apparently all the ladies in the group are Goddesses who each perform separate duties (no complaining at all from me about that, because I fully agree with them being portrayed as Deific...). I thought 'maybe the production team was having a little jab at Yoohyeon because she is known to be the klutz of the group' because in this MV she is the only one who falls to the ground when using a portal while everybody else just steps through theirs without any mess. Or maybe the Goddess Yoohyeon just really wanted to come in like a superhero and make a real 'impression'...
JiU started the song and from my perspective she was almost un-recognizable as a Blonde until she started singing. I don't remember any other time of her with Blonde hair. I have seen just about every other Human color and some that were non-Human, but this is the first time I remember seeing her Blonde (Edit: NOW after finishing this giant post, I do remember her as a Blonde in one single other MV that happened previous to the Dystopia Trilogy....lol I feel stupid. My memory is CRAP!). But I do know that voice.
Switch back to Yoohyeon for the vocals and you get to see a close-up of her hair a little better and her AMAZING makeup! The support staff really did GREAT here!
Then to Siyeon, who OF COURSE is just as GORGEOUS as ever, vocally and visually.
Gahyeon's vocals contrast with Siyeon's a little bit. Her makeup is also AWESOME! The group's MUA team really deserves some huge props for the creativity and for the solid, consistent quality of their work.
The first choreo scene with JiU's vocals to start but then that is Han Dong's voice that finished JiU's line. Then we get SuA starting the next line (I love our Tiny Dancer) which Gahyeon finishes (with the scene where the camera is far above her head looking straight down at her).
Dami needs no introduction. She's AMAZING as we already know.
Back to Yoohyeon in her Goddess Dress, looking like a gorgeous Bride.
Switch to Han Dong where we first get a good look at her in her Goddess Dress as she handles a portal. she seemingly evaporates but I guess that is her method of going through her portal (so at least she won't crash land like Yoohyeon).
Then we get to see a different costume on Siyeon and you can clearly see her small tattoo on her Lefft shoulder as she dances in a ruined temple.
I sometimes get the voices mixed up; I can't tell if Gahyeon started that next line or if that was Han Dong. But the scene settles on Gahyeon and her vocals almost end that line (SuA finishes it for her).
The iconic scene with all seven emerging from the portal toward the camera as SuA sings...just WOW! From Left-to-Right: Dami (wearing a belly chain! Go, AbsCather!), JiU, SuA, Yoohyeon, Gahyeon, Siyeon and Han Dong.
JiU does the bridge of the song alone, wandering in the other-worldly temple (appears to be Greek-inspired, like Olympus or something). GORGEOUS vocals, GORGEOUS Rock Piano...I LOVE all of DC's instrumentalists, whoever they may be!
Then you get to hear Siyeon again as she messes with a portal and you can see her largest tattoo from the back; Roman Numerals on her Right side, apparently representing birthdates of people close to her.
SuA gets to actually play the superhero and she sticks the landing MUCH MORE GRACEFULLY than Yoohyeon's opener. The perfect timing with the air from the fan blowing her hair at the same time as the heavy beat hits. She sings and this time Yoohyeon finishes the line while in a shot with the full group and choreo.
JiU sings while SuA sets the demon's head ablaze (apparently with her magic, making her an actual superhero...).
Pretty sure everybody at that enormous table represent the Illuminati or anybody iin any sort of position of power and how the wealthy and powerful people of the world only want power and prestige above everybody else, to the detriment of all. The world is crumbling but they only crave power, so blinded by it their avarice and greed that they can't see all the evidence of killing the planet that is right in front of their faces.
Back to Han Dong for a couple seconds. Check out her look!
JiU is standing in the hands of Mother Nature/ Gaia, which we are collectively killing, so the statue is corrupted and turns skeletal as we watch.
Back to Gahyeon's Goddess Dress look and vocals, this time backed by an awesome-sounding choir. Then it's Siyeon's vocals, then back to Gahyeon as she plays with some magic and then closes a small portal. Then Dami's vocals for a short time without rapping. Then it's either Gahyeon or it's every member of the group but I can personally only hear Gahyeon in the front, backed up by that choir. Then back to Han Dong, then of course the song closes with Yoohyeon and the entire group is standing in their temple.
So, yes, the song is about the environment and how we are destroying it and thus destroying ourselves; it is a call for help, a call to action, for everybody to actually do what we need to do in order for the environment to recover and allow us to survive.
Really great shots all the way through the video! This was DC's first fully-immersive Computerized Graphics MV, they used almost no props here at all. I think it's really good for a first try. But of course all of the critics came out of the woodwork, each claiming they 'could have done better' with the graphics. Too bad none of the idiots were around to help while this project was actually in production, right?

To quote your comment... "Just... wow!"
You are incredible. Thank you so much for this.
I went back through and watched the video reading through your comments - it made such a difference. We're going to go through it again together to try to get a better handle on the members' names, but even without that it's incredible how much detail and context you've provided. I can't thank you enough
And of course critics came out of the woodwork... it's easy to take shots at people who put themselves out there with something new... those same people would have criticised it regardless!

Actually, you were spot-on - this song, and the rest of the "Apocalypse Trilogy" ("VISION" and "BONVOYAGE") are specifically about protecting and fighting for the planet, an outcry for people to change their ways before it's too late. It's actually probably their more straight-forward storyline.
After you finish up the Apocalypse Trilogy if you wanted to stick with music, you could go back to the Nightmare Series which is made up of six songs and starts right from the beginning: chronologically by release, "Chase Me," "Good Night," "Fly High" (this is actually a prequel to the story), "You and I," "What," and "Piri." There is also a seventh song in the series, their Japanese release called "Breaking Out," which is an alternate ending.
If you want something a bit more loosey-goosey they have other songs that don't tie in directly to a storyline:
    - "Full Moon," "Over the Sky," and "Reason" are fansongs to celebrate their first, second, and sixth anniversaries respectively, which is January 13th (they actually debuted on Friday the 13th!).
-"Deja Vu" and "R.o.S.E. Blue" are standalone songs that are video game collaborations (note: Handong is missing for "R.o.S.E. Blue.")
-"Endless Night," "No More," and "Eclipse" are other standalone Japanese tracks they've released (note: Handong is missing from "Endless Night" and "No More.")
-"BEcause" is a standalone song as part of their Summer Holiday release.

'Eclipse' is an actual Anime Opening song for the anime that was inspired by the video game that 'Deja Vu' was for. The company liked DC so much they invited them back for a second song. :)

"Maison" is part 1 of the Apocalypse trilogy. Dreamcatcher are touching on a very important subject here. Maison is French for "house" or rather "home", and they are singing about everyone's home, which is our planet. Previously they talked about online hate, now they are tackling an issue that impacts the whole planet and therefore everyone. Climate change is going to affect all of us, and it is already affecting many people. Island Nations will disappear under the ocean ("Save my home in the ocean"). Ice melts in the arctic and displaces people ("Save my home in the polar"). Forests get decimated by corporate greed and habitats get destroyed ("Save my home in the jungle") and disappearing glaciers and snow packs result in even less water for deserts ("Save my home in the desert").
People have a natural tendency to ignore issues that seem to be in the future - but climate change is here, right now. We can't wait anymore, and it is good that Dreamcatcher use their platform to promote change: "Break your habit now!"
Musically I really enjoy the song. Like in BEcause, the rock/metal vibe is dialed back a bit, but it is still there and highly distorted. Although the more I listen to it, the more Rock I hear. I especially like how the pre-chorus and chorus seems to appear out of nowhere, the chord progression in the bridge, and the epic end part. The bass line is crazy as well. LEEZ and Ollounder (their producers) have done it again, and the members are just brilliant. Respect!

    • @alongfortheridereacts
      @alongfortheridereacts  Před 10 měsíci +2

I think you're absolutely right about the music... it's less metal than the dystopia trilogy, but not less rock. The groove and pace of this song doesn't take away the drive and power of the guitars and bass at all. We're looking forward to seeing them continue to evolve as we catch up!!
Also... what more can I say about the climate change issues you mention other than... yes, people do that and it's sad!

they always have a 'puzzle' to say what will be the title of the song or when will it got released. for Maison, they used indicator of air quality index (AQI). the numbers easily transcripted to MAISON by inSomnias using Morse code
    BUT
they also using big brain environmental chemistry knowledge. the pic showing red indicator. if we seriously plotting numbers from each pollutants, we'll find out the cause of red level is NO2 (nitrogen dioxide). NO2 is a brown gas pollutant, and... we can see the most used colour in the MV even to the outfits..
they didnt need to match the numbers, they could only place numbers for Morse code and plot the pollutants randomly, but NO. as someone graduated from chemistry major, I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT, despite probably not many (if not noone else) care about that effort, even some people immediately dislike the audio spoiler, their effort was immaculate for MAISON, and finally they got the first recognition from Korean music shows with the song

I belatedly left a comment on a previous video, but I saw that you were looking for a guide, but were worried about spoilers. The series "This is..." by Insomnicsy, the best InSomnia channel on the CZcams, is an excellent introduction to the girls with minimal discography spoilers (there is a bit of music in there but IIRC only from lives, solos, and/or covers). Insomnicsy has made three seasons so far, each with 7 videos (one per member), 7 minutes per video (and one extra video in 2020 for Dreamcatcher as a whole). Some people prefer to watch it by member (e.g. This is JiU 2020, 2021, 2022), other people prefer to watch it by season (e.g. all 2020 episodes first); both are valid. I would just suggest you do it in chronological order: don't start at 2022 ones, as the older ones give more "basic" knowledge, if that makes sense.

I know what you mean. I think it's more the 'metal' side of rock than actual metal. The sound of the guitars and the more technical grooves in the dystopia trilogy lean in that direction, but I agree that it isn't actually metal. The problem is, this group just defies genre. It's K-Pop but different, Rock but different, Metal but not really... they're just Dreamcatcher!!
