      That's what we use. We buy 35% food grade Hydrogen peroxide at our local health food store. We do 1/2 the amount in the water. And keep a spray bottle of 20 (water) to 1 (hydrogen peroxide) to spray our berry plants to keep off mold.
      But the we live in an extremely humid area.

Spend a day loading the truck with free wood rabbit food, dry it and be ready for the winter. That is just a few liters of gas that will feed your rabbits a verity not just plain grass

      I mostly feed fodder in the winter for a little extra feed along with hay and pellet. Wheat Fodder is nutritious but Rabbits are built for a high fiber diet and will benefit from a variety of feeds -maintaining around 16% protein and approximately 20% fiber especially with growing kits and nursing rabbits is essential. Thanks for a asking. Best of luck with your Rabbits.

    I had a question that I'm not sure if you've ever touched on - last summer we had a meat rabbit that we found 2 warbles (botfly larvae) inside of his neck during processing. As a matter of fact, as soon as we dispatched they began to vacate.
    Have you ever dealt with rabbits that had bot fly larvae while keeping them outdoors? How about fleas/ticks?
    If so, what have you done to minimize the chances of it occuring?

      You may need to take her in or have a vet visit I f she doesn’t bounce back. Maintaining healthy rabbits from the start can be done by simply providing fresh water every 12 hours and clean pellet and hay. be sure to double her feed portions after kindling. She needs to keep up her body weight and nutrition. Purchase some whole oats from a livestock feed store and give her a punch of oats Every other day. You can also feed her Black oil seeds for some extra calories.

      It’s not necessary. Growing your own food for any livestock animal, will help supplement your feed costs saving you money in the long run. I feed fodder in the winter time which gives the rabbits some greens. You can either feed the grains, are grow into fodder producing several times more the volume of food.
      Another way to save money, is replacing pellets all together with several different varieties of greens and forage

    How much of the pellet feed can the fodder substitute?

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  Před rokem +1

      Thats a good question an adult rabbit needs around 12 % protein where as a junior or nursing rabbit needs 16 % protein. Sprouted Wheat fodder will provide approximately 15% protein.
      This is something you'll have to gauge based on the amount of sprouted grain your growing you'll feed approximately 2/3 of a cup a day . Grow 2/3 of rye grain(wheat fodder) in a tray or tub and figure how much that grows and feed that amount. For a daily ration. I'd still recommend feeding some pellet because of all the beneficial nutrients found in the pellet.

      It’s just one of the many feeds we supply for Rabbits we try to provide a variety. We feed most of our fodder in the winter time. We only feed kits pellet,whole oats and hay and I’ll continue this strict diet until they are three months old and only then I will start introducing greens.

    Have you tried hydrogen peroxide or vinegar to clean the seeds?

      I’ve always used bleach because it does a terrific job eliminating bacteria
      You rinse the seeds thoroughly before sprouting. You can always try using one of those of you don’t like the idea of bleach.

    Hi, I don't know how soon you'll see this, but maybe one of your other viewers has an idea. I have a first time momma doe who has me worried. On Sunday I noticed she wasn't eating her pellets, but she was still eating hay. She had 8 kits yesterday evening (Tue), but it doesn't look like she's fed them. She still hasn't eaten the pellets (3 days now) and she didn't eat the hay last night. She is just chewing on her wood block. I am worried for the kits and her. I have my other doe (3 years old) that kindled on Sunday so her 5 kits are two days older and significantly larger at this point. Can I put the nest box with the newest kits in with my experienced doe? I'm hoping she might feed them but I don't know if she'll kill them or what the new mom will do if I bring her kits back to her with the other mommas scent. And I don't want to exhaust her by feeding 13 kits is that it's too many. Any advice is very welcome!

      Sometimes the milk takes up to 72 hours to come in the kits won’t starve they can wait and live through the wait
      Try and be patient and rest assured that mama Well come through and take care of your kits I personally would just let nature take it’s course she will figure it out best if she’s on her own
      If the kits are around the same size as the other litter you can take a few of them and put them in with the other litter (remember rabbits only have 8 nipples)
      but if they’re too small they won’t be able to fight for a nipple
      In most cases it isn’t necessary to foster kits
      Worst case scenario if she does lose the litter re-breed her immediately and her next litter will go better

      @@TheRabbitryCenter Thanks for quick reply! My other doe has been such a great mom from the start, so this one has had me freaking out a bit. I did mix some BOSS in with her pellets to try to get her to eat. I appreciate the advice and calming words, ha. I will wait it out with fingers crossed. Thanks again!

    Is there an organic way to do this? My reason for growing my own rabbit feed is so it's organic and also the extra nutrition.

    Do you have to keep buying seed to continue feeding with fodder? Is there a way for it to reseed and have a continuous system? Looking at being self sufficient once initial seed planting is done.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  Před rokem +2

      When Fodder is around 4-6" its at its most palatable.
      In order to get more seed you'd need to let it grow out (plant a section of wheat/barley dedicated to this)
      You could harvest the seed heads once they begin to dry on the plants.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  Před rokem +1

      It’s best to feed a variety to your rabbits, high-fiber diet is what they will benefit from but you can adopt your own method that works for you.
      In the summertime will supplement with things we grow Around our property but most of our fodder is fed in the winter time -that’s just our system though.

    Thanks for the info. I have a question for you.
    If I were to grow in soil could I just cut the top and leave it go continue to grow ? Basically lime growing hay in a field I guess. If this could be done , how many cuttings could one get before it looses its nutritional value ?
    Thanks

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  Před 2 lety +2

      I grow in soil as well. It will stay nutritious.
      Once the blade starts to split it’s ready you can cut all season. It’s an annual so you’ll need to replant next spring.
      If it starts to thin out you can always over seed and blanket with seed to rejuvenate the turf

  • @hillockfarm8404
    @hillockfarm8404 Před 2 lety

    These up to 7 day sprouts don't need soil to grow, their energy is stored in the seed itself. It wouldn't be able to start otherwise since there is no way to access the nutrients in the soil until a connection via root(s) is made. You can grow them up to 10 days, but then the lignine? content (stuff that helps the now heavier stem stay upright) gets higher and that is an indigestible fibre. That lowers the nutritional value and makes it harder to digest, so not for delicate tummies.

    Do you ever worry about the bleach going into your rabbits that you end up eating?

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  Před 2 lety

      Absolutely not. Rest assured.
      The seed is cleaned with bleach not grown with bleach. Your only cleaning the seed coat. It's best to start with clean disinfected seed to prevent mold and mildew by the time you're ready to feed your rabbits(8 days)they're eating the shoots that have grown after the seed coat breaks open.

    Sprouting fodder is a waste of time and money. All you're adding is water weight, and you're actually losing nutrition. You'd be better off feeding the seeds directly to your rabbits instead of sprouting them first.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for sharing. I completely understand and wouldn't want to waste any of my valuable time. I agree with you that nutrition is lost but the volume is increased at a much greater scale. If nutrition is decreased by 50% than getting 2lbs from 1lb would be pointless. But if you can sprout under the right conditions increasing that to 10x the volume it makes it worth it and this is why so many farmers invest in foddering systems.
