I had problems in the past trying to grow this. I gave up. However, after watching this video, I think I could be successful.
Best of luck with your fodder
In the winter time there’s less humidity and it’s easier to grow the rabbits don’t have any greens, so the rabbits really enjoy it
Nice video.... I would recommend hydrogen peroxide 3% or Dr zymes instead of the chlorine to get rid of mold.
Thank you so much for sharing.
What ratio to water do you recommend?
Thank you!
I too was wondering 🤔 about the ratio for hydrogen peroxide to water
That's what we use. We buy 35% food grade Hydrogen peroxide at our local health food store. We do 1/2 the amount in the water. And keep a spray bottle of 20 (water) to 1 (hydrogen peroxide) to spray our berry plants to keep off mold.
But the we live in an extremely humid area.
I am a recent subscriber. I didn't even think about growing fodder like this. I learned something new today! Thank you so much for this video. Have a great day.
You're so welcome!
Thanks for watching!
Our cows LoOoOoVeD the fodder. Excellent video. Thx so much. Blessings to you and yours from South Africa.
Thanks so much for watching!
Good deal. I didn't know about the bleach in the soak water. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks you for the Knowledge, it was helpful !
You're very welcome!
I'd recommend using vinegar in place of Bleach. 1c vinegar to 1 gallon water. Otherwise great info. 😊
Thanks for sharing!
Been wanting to do this, thanks for explaining all your steps.
You bet thanks for watching!
Thanks for your video!
You're very welcome!
Mate your channel is awesome
Glad you enjoy it!
Excellent video on growing fodder. Thanks. I like the Amazon trays. They are very heavy-duty and make the sprouting process much easier.
I like them too. Nice little kit. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks for sharing buddy
You’re very welcome!
Great info!
I'm So glad you liked it!
Excellent information
Thanks so much!
Thank you I’ve been wondering if I could grow them greens year around
You’re very welcome
Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks! BTW you look super tired! Hoppy Thanksgiving from us here in NoDak!
I’ve been deer hunting for two weeks straight and I’m exhausted. Thanks for noticing and happy thanksgiving to you and your family!
I think it’s the lighting
🥰 I really like your videos! Thank you! Can you do a video about preventing inbreeding among rabbits please? 🐇🐇
Yes mam!
Are you referring to colony raising?
Thank you
You’re very welcome!
Love it
So glad
Let's go Brandon
We cultivate Trichantera plants as forage for our rabbits. It's locally called "Madre de agua"
Thank you so much for sharing. It looks very similar to Comfrey.
Thanks
You’re very welcome!
I prefer vinegar over bleach for mold
You bet that works too
Hi... 🎥👍👍👍
This is great! I'm not much of a plant person, but this looks like something I could do! Also, does anyone have an opinion on Champagne D'Argent rabbits for meat?
It’s one of the best!
If it's anything like alfalfa, it doesn't require nearly as many seeds as you would think. I don't give alfalfa to the rabbits, ad they already have a fair amount of it in their pellets, but I let the chicken go at cookie trays of alfalfa sprouts sometimes
Thanks for sharing
This is so great, thank you for this. So detailed step by step, I now feel like I could confidently try this and know what I'm actually doing 😁
Much appreciate this particular video and love your channel and content 💜 easy to listen to, clear and concise advice...
two thumbs 👍🏻 👍🏻 way up 😁
Thanks for watching. Also thank you for taking the time to write your comment. It’s very much appreciated.
I use clonex for seed germination.
Thank you for sharing!
Do you have woods? They eat more than fodder. They eat cherry leaves, oak, raspberries, dandalion mint stinging nettle. The bunnies need a verity. Spend a day loading the truck with free wood rabbit food, dry it and be ready for the winter. That is just a few liters of gas that will feed your rabbits a verity not just plain grass
Thanks for sharing. Just know if you feed a nursing mother mint it'll hinder her lactation. Just an fyi. Here's another video you may find helpful czcams.com/video/dTWFHLbh6hs/video.html
does wheat or barley fodder reproduce on its own? like say you cutt off half of your tray for your live stock, will the plant essentially have babies and refill the other half of the tray? awesome video, loving this channel.
It would reproduce only if it went to seed
Thanks for watching
Handsome kid 🙂
Thanks He’s a good kid- hard worker!
Haha I knew this would come next
Thanks for watching!
Hi Bobby, sent you an email earlier about Amazon.
thanks so much!
can i feed them only fodder! thanks for explaining and sharing
I mostly feed fodder in the winter for a little extra feed along with hay and pellet. Wheat Fodder is nutritious but Rabbits are built for a high fiber diet and will benefit from a variety of feeds -maintaining around 16% protein and approximately 20% fiber especially with growing kits and nursing rabbits is essential. Thanks for a asking. Best of luck with your Rabbits.
What do you think about using a weak solution of vinegar instead of bleach to prevent mold?
I think if vinegar works and it’s effective that’s a great alternative. Thanks for sharing!
Hey! Recently found your channel, it's been helping me and my partner out big time with our first pregnant rabbit and cage builds.
I had a question that I'm not sure if you've ever touched on - last summer we had a meat rabbit that we found 2 warbles (botfly larvae) inside of his neck during processing. As a matter of fact, as soon as we dispatched they began to vacate.
Have you ever dealt with rabbits that had bot fly larvae while keeping them outdoors? How about fleas/ticks?
If so, what have you done to minimize the chances of it occuring?
Thanks!
From Canada
So glad you like the channel.
Absolutely botfly’s are nasty little things
Here’s a video to help you.
Thanks for watching!

i have way less mold issue by doing a 1 hour soak vs 12-or 24 -PLUS QUICKER GROWTH
Thanks for sharing!
I also notice growing in the winter
You’ll have less trouble with mold too
Thanks for watching!
Can you do this system but instead use either dent corn or beans as the fodder?
Traditionally fodder is grown with wheat, oats or barley but I'd check the protein levels and if its sufficient I'd give it a whirl
If I live in a city and have a house. Can rabbits be kept in the garage or shed during the winter? Where to buy pre-built cages? How much? Can you recommend sources? How to keep them warm in the winter?
Simply type in the rabbitry center and then whatever topic you are inquiring and our videos will pop up 1)yes2)tsc or farm and fleet -our store has galvanized prebuilt cages a.co/59Q9wd4 3) czcams.com/video/QoTvqBLdtLU/video.html
How does all the water get out if you’re using that green tray system? there’s no little holes in the bottom of the green trays so are you drilling on the bottom of those too?
Yes I am. You may have missed it in the video where I briefly mentioned the holes on the end of the trays. Thanks for asking!
did not hear you mention wiping the trays out with bleach between uses, this will help keep the mold down...just a thought..
That's true you have to clean them to eliminate spores and bacteria. Thanks for sharing!
when did you start growing your own fodder for the rabbitry center?
I grow a lot of things off and on and would appreciate any advice you may have.
Thanks for watching!
Can you use cinnamon to deter mold? I hear that advice a lot from people talking about seed starting
Haven't used it. I often hear folks recommend vinegar for a bleach substitute
Hey Bobby! Have you ever tried vinegar instead of bleach? Thanks! Great info!
Sure have, vinegar will have an effect the seed but isn’t as strong
Question. I saw that you cut a piece of your fodder roots and all and fed it to your rabbits. Can you just cut the stems and feed it to them? Will the stems grow back? Thinking instead starting from scratch again to make the fodder. Thanks
I’d give it a try and upload the video I’m interested if you did grow it under the right conditions you could get regrowth. Hopefully at the same nutrition level
Sorry for hijacking this, just the latest video so thought I may get a reply. I have a white doe, mixed breed. She is now making her nest, right now as I type. Over the past few weeks her fur has gone from white to tan I guess would be the best description. Is that what happens or is it because I haven't removed Bugs, the male, and he keeps spraying on her?
If your rabbit is housed next to your make than yes he’s marking her
Talk about your fan set up on those cages
You bet here you go

Hey Brandon I have a mother rabbit and she is a first time mom her kits is about 4 days old . I went to her nest this morning and notice she's not moving, she does not have enough energy to go to where her food or water is but am so scared that she might die . What you think I should do ?
You may need to take her in or have a vet visit I f she doesn’t bounce back. Maintaining healthy rabbits from the start can be done by simply providing fresh water every 12 hours and clean pellet and hay. be sure to double her feed portions after kindling. She needs to keep up her body weight and nutrition. Purchase some whole oats from a livestock feed store and give her a punch of oats Every other day. You can also feed her Black oil seeds for some extra calories.
Best of luck
Thanks so much
I just want to ask what other grass is healthy for the rabbit because I can't get wheat in the country am in
Rye, Timothy, Bermuda any fine stemmed grass
Probably not commercial grass seed because of the chemicals on them.
Would it bebhealthy to rear the rabbits solely on wheatgrass? ( root and seed included of course )
Give it a whirl. A growing rabbits need a 16% protein food and a 20%fiber and 5% Fat. I would look over the %'s of wheat grass root and seed and supplement what Evers remaining. This is why so many feed pellet. Let me know how it turns out!
Hi , good video,do you Champagne D Argent for sale?
Only New Zealand’s are currently available. Try googling champagne de argent rabbit breeders
Can I do this with rolled oats for my rabbit? Or is it best to just feed the rolled oats as is? And can I use hay cubes ? instead of loose hay from the bag I am finding that she is wasting alot and one Big bag of Timothy hay in Canada is $27
Sure! Try giving her a handful of hay on a 10“ x 10“ resting board I use half-inch plywood in the winter time
Use craigslist and Facebook Rabbit groups to find a hate farmer near you save money feeding Pasture Hay or orchard hay
I live in Ontario and we go to a store called minor bros country living to get our feed and hay.
Got 50lbs of pellet and a full bale of fresh alfalfa/timothy hay (filled 2 XL garbage bags) for under $50!
👍
Can we just use this to replace pellets? Or is this only supplimental?
We use it as supplemental
Hi, I am Michael I'm new on your channel. Thank you for this wonderful job. My Doe gave birth to her first bunnies three still birth and three live birth. But she didn't feed the live birth and she didn't pull out fur for the babies. I lost all the 3 live birth in three days. Can I re breed the doe
Yea you can rebreed the doe here’s a video that shares more information
czcams.com/video/bUR4-EoQDPs/video.html
This looks like Tom much work for me.
What do you think feeding Azola to rabbit
Here in Michigan, growing outside isn’t an option in the winter so the rabbits go nuts for the tasty greens that time of year.
Azola, Couldn’t tell you, I’ve never fed them.
You can over seed your beds too if you don’t want to grow indoors you may like this method a little more czcams.com/video/RKun0U0YaZI/video.htmlfeature=shared
What type of seeds are those barley?
Wheat
Could the bleach be replaced with vinegar in the same ratio?
Give it a whirl and if the humidity is right you may pull it off.
Can you do this with peas and oats? Like something with a slightly higher protein %
You bet! I’ve tried oats fodder but I’ve only grown winter peas for deer
@@TheRabbitryCenter have you seen the study done on feeding maize (corn) fodder to fryer rabbits? Over a lb higher difference at 8 weeks
I'm interested to know what else you need them besides this because most producers I've seen locally give their rabbits pellets, hay and water. I want to understand how I'll save money with this if I'm still going to give them pellets hay and water?
It’s not necessary. Growing your own food for any livestock animal, will help supplement your feed costs saving you money in the long run. I feed fodder in the winter time which gives the rabbits some greens. You can either feed the grains, are grow into fodder producing several times more the volume of food.
Another way to save money, is replacing pellets all together with several different varieties of greens and forage
@@TheRabbitryCenter thank you
Question, can you grow your plant grow your own seeds? Just asking if you couldn’t get seeds anymore, can you grow your own?
Yes, you would have to let it mature and measure growing time until it goes to seed
Does not the bleach affect the rabbit when they wat the fodder from the soaked seeds?
It doesn’t. it simply aids in killing bacteria and helps to prevent mold from growing, the same way a pre-emergent works to prevent growth when preparing a raised bed.
How much of the pellet feed can the fodder substitute?
Thats a good question an adult rabbit needs around 12 % protein where as a junior or nursing rabbit needs 16 % protein. Sprouted Wheat fodder will provide approximately 15% protein.
This is something you'll have to gauge based on the amount of sprouted grain your growing you'll feed approximately 2/3 of a cup a day . Grow 2/3 of rye grain(wheat fodder) in a tray or tub and figure how much that grows and feed that amount. For a daily ration. I'd still recommend feeding some pellet because of all the beneficial nutrients found in the pellet.
@@TheRabbitryCenter thanks for the reply. Yeah I’m working the numbers to start a small commercial rabbitry. Just trying to see what can help reduce pellet feed costs without losing too much growth performance, which I believe is necessary for the US market. A tricky question… I see the benefits of using fodder, but like you said, they’d still need the concentrate pellet feed too
Looked like Brandon was getting into some fodder, but not wheat grass, more like the hippie lettuce. Lol
Yea he's a rascal thanks for watching!
👍🤠
What % of your rabbit food is this? I was thinking of doing barley. Can kits eat it? At what age?
It’s just one of the many feeds we supply for Rabbits we try to provide a variety. We feed most of our fodder in the winter time. We only feed kits pellet, whole oats and hay and I’ll continue this strict diet until they are three months old and only then I will start introducing greens.
How can I get some of the seed

Have you tried hydrogen peroxide or vinegar to clean the seeds?
I’ve always used bleach because it does a terrific job eliminating bacteria
You rinse the seeds thoroughly before sprouting. You can always try using one of those of you don’t like the idea of bleach.
Hi, I don't know how soon you'll see this, but maybe one of your other viewers has an idea. I have a first time momma doe who has me worried. On Sunday I noticed she wasn't eating her pellets, but she was still eating hay. She had 8 kits yesterday evening (Tue), but it doesn't look like she's fed them. She still hasn't eaten the pellets (3 days now) and she didn't eat the hay last night. She is just chewing on her wood block. I am worried for the kits and her. I have my other doe (3 years old) that kindled on Sunday so her 5 kits are two days older and significantly larger at this point. Can I put the nest box with the newest kits in with my experienced doe? I'm hoping she might feed them but I don't know if she'll kill them or what the new mom will do if I bring her kits back to her with the other mommas scent. And I don't want to exhaust her by feeding 13 kits is that it's too many. Any advice is very welcome!
Sometimes the milk takes up to 72 hours to come in the kits won’t starve they can wait and live through the wait
Try and be patient and rest assured that mama Well come through and take care of your kits I personally would just let nature take it’s course she will figure it out best if she’s on her own
If the kits are around the same size as the other litter you can take a few of them and put them in with the other litter (remember rabbits only have 8 nipples)
but if they’re too small they won’t be able to fight for a nipple
In most cases it isn’t necessary to foster kits
Worst case scenario if she does lose the litter re-breed her immediately and her next litter will go better
@@TheRabbitryCenter Thanks for quick reply! My other doe has been such a great mom from the start, so this one has had me freaking out a bit. I did mix some BOSS in with her pellets to try to get her to eat. I appreciate the advice and calming words, ha. I will wait it out with fingers crossed. Thanks again!
Is there an organic way to do this? My reason for growing my own rabbit feed is so it's organic and also the extra nutrition.
Yes here's some organic seed
amzn.to/3NuFe8d
@@TheRabbitryCenter Thank you!!
Do you have to keep buying seed to continue feeding with fodder? Is there a way for it to reseed and have a continuous system? Looking at being self sufficient once initial seed planting is done.
When Fodder is around 4-6" its at its most palatable.
In order to get more seed you'd need to let it grow out (plant a section of wheat/barley dedicated to this)
You could harvest the seed heads once they begin to dry on the plants.
You said you gave fodder once a week. Is giving it every day bad?
It’s best to feed a variety to your rabbits, high-fiber diet is what they will benefit from but you can adopt your own method that works for you.
In the summertime will supplement with things we grow Around our property but most of our fodder is fed in the winter time -that’s just our system though.
Where else do you source your seeds?
Local feed store, whole grains for livestock feed are untreated and will sprout just fine.
Google “livestock feed store near me”
Start making home made pellets lol. I been looking an looking an no luck on anybody CZcams channel on how to do it
Maybe I will someday...
I do it with soil. Chickens eat the root. They scratch it. Rabbits dont eat the roots, so i give the roots to the Chickens
Thanks for watching and sharing!
Thanks for the info. I have a question for you.
If I were to grow in soil could I just cut the top and leave it go continue to grow ? Basically lime growing hay in a field I guess. If this could be done , how many cuttings could one get before it looses its nutritional value ?
Thanks
I grow in soil as well. It will stay nutritious.
Once the blade starts to split it’s ready you can cut all season. It’s an annual so you’ll need to replant next spring.
If it starts to thin out you can always over seed and blanket with seed to rejuvenate the turf
@@TheRabbitryCenter Thank you sir.
Welp that’s it
My family no longer has a bathtub
I’m setting up my trays
Best of luck!

Be sure to check out our winter playlist in our playlist section Thanks for watching
@@TheRabbitryCenter thank you!
Have you used Vinegar in place of the bleach? Something just doesn't sit right about using bleach.
I haven’t but I’ve been told it works
These up to 7 day sprouts don't need soil to grow, their energy is stored in the seed itself. It wouldn't be able to start otherwise since there is no way to access the nutrients in the soil until a connection via root(s) is made. You can grow them up to 10 days, but then the lignine? content (stuff that helps the now heavier stem stay upright) gets higher and that is an indigestible fibre. That lowers the nutritional value and makes it harder to digest, so not for delicate tummies.
I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Thanks for that!
Do you ever worry about the bleach going into your rabbits that you end up eating?
Absolutely not. Rest assured.
The seed is cleaned with bleach not grown with bleach. Your only cleaning the seed coat. It's best to start with clean disinfected seed to prevent mold and mildew by the time you're ready to feed your rabbits(8 days)they're eating the shoots that have grown after the seed coat breaks open.
Those rabbit cages are so cruel. Rabbits should be allowed to run and stretch their legs. Please consider building them a large pen.
letting your rabbit run freely
& why domesticated rabbits are raised in cages czcams.com/video/MikAVg3cccE/video.htmlfeature=shared
Let's go Brandon!
Ha!
Sprouting fodder is a waste of time and money. All you're adding is water weight, and you're actually losing nutrition. You'd be better off feeding the seeds directly to your rabbits instead of sprouting them first.
Thanks for sharing. I completely understand and wouldn't want to waste any of my valuable time. I agree with you that nutrition is lost but the volume is increased at a much greater scale. If nutrition is decreased by 50% than getting 2lbs from 1lb would be pointless. But if you can sprout under the right conditions increasing that to 10x the volume it makes it worth it and this is why so many farmers invest in foddering systems.
Can you just give it a haircut and keep growing it ?
You could but there's a lot of nutrition if you give the rabbits, the grass roots and all
