This is a tool-assisted speedrun. For more information, see tasvideos.org/4490M
TAS originally published on 2021-07-21
At first there were 70 stars, because Bowser demanded it. Then there were 16 stars, because MIPS the Rabbit demanded it. Then there was 1 star, because Bowser's Sub demanded it. Then there were no stars, but 2 keys, because the door leading to the castle basement demanded it. Now there is 1 key because the viewers are impatient and demanded the game be quicker.
As with many other runs on this site, the goal of pure speed has resulted in the complete breaking of the game. Very little of the game's normal play remains. If you'd like to see more of what Super Mario 64 has to offer, see the "70 Stars, no BLJ" (tasvideos.org/2062M) run or the "120 Stars" (tasvideos.org/2208M) run.
This appears to be an improvement by 00:02.32 seconds, however if we account for emulation differences between Mupen and BizHawk, the improvement is closer to 00:04.90 seconds. Please read the submission notes (tasvideos.org/7161S) for more information on the improvements.
Super Mario 64 has a history of publications on this site. If you wish to see how it unfolded since the beginning, see the page .
If you're looking for a TAS on the Nintendo DS remake, you can watch it here (tasvideos.org/3370M).
--------
Since this movie was made using Mupen, with the m64 file converted to the bk2 format, you can download the original m64 file under the publication page. Timing for the m64 file is around 04:16.4.
You can watch this movie (tasvideos.org/4490M?fileId=12...) played back on a real console ( • 1 Key TAS Console Veri... ). - Hry
Can't wait for a new "all 120 stars" TAS of this game.
same
Is sub-70 possible in 120 stars? I think it may be possible
@@saidholhujayev6863 they probably already have beaten with their current improvements so yeah
So I am! I’m talking to you two, Core2EE TAS and WalkingTerror73.
@@saidholhujayev6863 maybe possible but we're around 4 minutes off that right now
Peach: "Hurry, Mario! I left the cake in the oven!"
Homer would Give a Doh like Homer
cake in the oven!? yyyyyy-yahoo
The credits took longer than the gameplay lmao.
The Ocarina of Time run is like 60% cut scenes nowadays, lol.
3:34, I love how the music pauses, as if the game itself is stunned at what just happened. That's the proper response, just jaw-dropped stunned amazement for about 4 and a quarter minutes.
here from pannenkoek2012's new video to explain that all of that was an invisible wall initiated BLJ into a floor overshadowing squish cancel to redirect momentum :)))
Hearing, "Thank you so much for to playing my game!" still warms my heart.
for playing my game
@@DJIncendrationMario actually misspeaks because of his Italian accent. Its more like "Thank you so much-a for to playin' my game-a"
@@filiperodrigues97 ACKCHYUALLY it's not for-to, because of his accent, Mario pronounces "r" like in spanish, so it's "for-a".
@@adrianhdz138 Nah, it doesn't sound like that at all, you're wrong, Mario just misspoke
Actually what he says is "Gabagool? Over here!"
Moonwalks on Bowser, Jesus.
Amazing TAS, I love this game. 3:30 awesome!
Wow, they beat the previous TAS by almost 3 seconds. That's amazing!
Beat it by over 5, lost time due to a different emulator timing
It took 4 years to improve like 2 and a half seconds
It's insane
I like how at the end it plays all the levels as if youve done them
I love how Mario is t-posing in the thumbnail
This is my first time for the 4 years of my life watching TAS seeing so many players. Thanks for the run!
that moment when credits take longer than the game itself
Amazing TAS, good job :)
Simply an awesome tas!
mario 64 with eventually reach a point to where you dont need to collect a single item to beat the game and im here for it
Just warp to the end credits.
@@Urist_Mythrilforged A wrongwarp to the credits has been discovered, but it's in WDW, PAL VC only, and the game crashes upon the appearance of peach
@@sunk6478 The one I found on CZcams is just a wrong warp from WDW to restarting WDW, and the only wrong warp to credits I've heard was only in the comments of a different video, which stated something about using King Bob-omb
@@MoonlightMirage

@@sunk6478 that's the thing, new things could be discovered any time. they will find it one day. I do have to say a 0 key speedrun without warps is impossible because the top floor doesn't even spawn until you have 1 item
This has got to be the most insane game ever made for n64
You know there's something up when the credits are longer than the gameplay.
Holy crap amazing 🤩
He really deserves a Guiness World Record for making the fastest _Super Mario 64_ TAS ever.
1: who is he
2: this was made by multiple people
3: gwr is a joke
I did this once on accident
- We have to take our hats off to this gruesome plumber for travelling this long journey for what must have been months of work.
- Actually, the whole endeavour from start to finish took just four minutes!
- Woooow!!
amazing job :) The fact that Mario gets to travel to PUs and back is insane
calling it here, best tas of 2021 (not unless smw 96 exit gets finished)
Facts
Unreal will be back soon with a version of this TAS played back on the PC port of Super Mario 64.
My favorite part is the casual moonwalk after the final Bowser is defeated.
It's actualy a speed boost to reach the star faster than simply jumping from a static position. Now the pause after defeat bowser in the fire sea I don't know what it is about
Pretty sure it is to set to Mario cam to reduce lag, as the cam was on locked mode for PU movement for MDS
TAS masters!
I feel the last boss music was what Bowser heard seeing Mario blast through his castle in 4 minutes
She made him a cake, but you know he's getting that pie...
I’m still waiting for a zero key run of this game.
@Kev LC Until ACE or something is found that allows Mario to go upstairs without getting the key in BitFS, you are correct. Mario has to open the door normally to load the upstairs portion of the castle and he can't do what he does in the basement since there is only one door to the upstairs portion.
The zero-exit Super Mario World run depends on writing over memory pointers. I'm surprised no one's found an exploit for SM64 yet.
@@djhakase It's so hard to do it in an extremely large 8 Megabytes of ROM
You can only load the second part of the castle by opening the key door‚ clipping though the door won't work.
its impossible
GG
Just want to confirm something. Unless we find something really special there will never be a 0 key run right? Because unless you open the key door all that is loaded behind it is a bit of the spiral staircase right?
Yes
100% correct. There's no other access to the upper floor of the castle, unlike the basement.
The upstairs is a separate world from the lobby, and it can only be accessed by going through the key 2 door. Key 1 skip is only possible because the moat door is an alternative entrance to the basement; the upstairs has no alternative entrances.
There is no known glitch that allows you to open the key 2 door without the proper key, so unless something is miraculously found key 2 skip will never be possible.
I didn't know I needed 4K sm64 but I guess now I do
Is the BLJ after the 3rd Bowser throw optimal to grab the star or just for swag?
it's slightly faster because mario moves towards the bomb during the frame of grabbing bowser
Cool.
No se porque me recordó un video de "algo sobre super mario 64: speedrun"
I wonder if there will be an arbitrary code execution for Mario 64 that skip to the final boss level or shows end credits
BRO HE MADE A NEW RECORD 8O
2:24 Does anyone know why the pause after the bowser in the fire sea fight?
I suppose, it's setting 3rd person cam, to reduce lag, which seems to be faster, than not doing it, Ig.
Why did you pause the game sometimes when not BLJing, such as after defeating Bowser in BitFS?
Probably for lag reduction by using alternative cameras
1:07 in and there's already a backwards long jump
Hm... Just when I thought I've seen all this game had to offer... O_o
"My parents aren't home"
- Peach, Probably
I actually did this a few days ago non TAS I just didn't have the camera on.

Nowadays it's somehow more rare to get people trying to go for *70 star*
Damn the credits are longer than the gameplay in this run.
LMAO
You are the best speddrun ever
Lets take a game we broke, and break it even more
Waiting for the day that we can complete this game with 0 keys rather than just 1 key.

I need to work on an update on my Abe’s Exoddus 100% TAS there’s been a lot of new routes that the PSX version can handle. Of course the PC version will be the most superior with skips but until the Windows game can be TASed I use the PSX version.
And this is relevant to Super Mario 64 because...
@@Spikechive it’s relevant to TASes in general
@@MarsofAritia yeah I hear there were talks of bringing PCEM to Bizhawk being able to run PC games on a multi platform emulator that would be cool!

Wtf bro
You are the best TAS speed runner at this game. Speaking of which, it’s not possible to beat this game with 1 key when playing on the Nintendo Switch; all the tricks you’re doing do not work on the Nintendo Switch.
It is indeed possible to beat the All Stars and Shindou versions with only 1 key.
To enter the castle, we can do hyperspeed walking to avoid BLJing. Pannenkoek2012 has a video of this. To avoid BLJing past the 30 star door, we can use hyperspeed wall-kicks as shown on MKDasher's channel. And to enter Bowser in the Sky, we can again use hyperspeed wallkicks as shown on Dyllon Stej's channel.
just search 1 star bljless tas in youtube lmao
oh god, "TAS speed runner"
i didn't think anybody could be clueless enough to not only not know that tas means tool-assisted speedrun (so "tas speedrun" would be "tool-assisted speedrun speedrun"), but also to think that speedrun is two words
horrifying
AND that this tas was made by multiple people which it says in the title, description, and _video._
Damn, gone too far now. Need to go lose 1.71 seconds. I know TAS are supposed to be "fastest possible", but that's too good to pass up.
czcams.com/video/1tPmXI0HJdo/video.html Luckily, someone else noticed this two months ago.
@@Spiderpig2398
Okay good, phew.
just to note: there's 3 completely different timing methods. the video of the person who got the 4.99 second timesave had to lose 4.91 seconds from this TAS instead of 1.71 due to sm64 TASers timing with console in mind not bizhawk (the emulator used by tasvideos) nor mupen (the emulator used by sm64 tasers)
