I just had refractive lens replacement on my right eye yesterday. The Lens is a PanOptix Multifocal lens. Yesterday everything was very blurry and my eyes were still dilated a lot. Today my vision was 20/20 with my follow up, but still blurry. As the day went on, my vision has gotten better. Right now my vision is around 95% clear - I can see everything but still a bit blurry. Zero pain, eyes are not dry, no itching, and procedure was painless. I am going in next week for my left eye. With the PanOptix I can see close, mid, and far with no more glasses - ever. So far I am very happy. When my vision clears up I will be so happy! Thanks for all of your amazing videos - they have helped so much!

If I may ask: Would you be able to explain how the PanOptix Multifocal lens works and what advantage does it offer?
Finally 2 very personal questions: At what age did you undergo surgery, what was the cost (I assume $US)?
I am about to commence my journey of testing and having cataract surgery - LASIK served a purpose for 18 years achieving quite successfully mono vision (takes time and patience to reprogram the brain for acceptance). I am looking (pun unintended) at all possible options for improved vision and maybe stereo vision.

I live in the UK, and last May had cataracts removed plus lens implanted on the NHS. After wearing glasses for chronic short-sightedness for fifty+ years, I have better sight than ever, and only use glasses for reading. The painless procedure took two hours, and after tea and biscuits went home wearing eye shields, removed the next day. I used eye drops for four weeks. Funny that clothes bought in recent years aren't the colour I thought they were!

The instructions I was given along with the written papers or somewhat confusing but this was so clear and to the point I think this video should be shown in every waiting room so that patients get the straight information and they get it clearly. I worked with eye doctors 42 years. My main job was surgery prep/paperwork. Thanks for showing how to put drops in. Can't tell you how many patients try to do it like in commercials. (Head back, not pulling lower lid, not bracing hand on face) Then they complain that there's not enough drops in the bottle. I won't give any free samples if they don't listen to directions. We used pred forteQID, vigamox TID, and Lotemax QID. Keeping the schedule straight was difficult for them! Anyway, thanks for the informative video in "people talk", not medical jargon.

Thank you so much for this. I am a 58 year old female, live in South Africa and have cataracts in both eyes, the right much worse than the left. I have to go through our State hospital for surgery and have been told that my surgery is only scheduled for next year, September 2023, because of the fact that Covid put a spanner in the works for operations and only the most urgent are currently being done. I am so glad that I have seen your video and now know what to expect before and after, because I am pretty sure that I will not be told even half of what you have spoken about. The opthalmologist even said that they inject local anaesthetic into the lower eye, and don't use anaesthetic drops. And I probably won't be given even half the care and information that you provide.

Next surgery is in two months, and I'm looking forward to having full, clear vision once again, without having had to break the bank.

I had the Clareon PanOptix Multifocal done 2 days ago in my right eye. I have some minor halos from headlights and stop lights but they are symmetrical/cool/neat looking like something from a video game. Don't think these halos will bother me much even If they never go away. They're nothing like the weird asymmetrical distortions and weird ghosting and/or double/x6 vision of LEDs and stoplights I had before surgery. So far so good. No pain. Very minor blur and flickering currently but I expect that to go away. I could read the smallest, crazy small print on a cardboard eye card test the day after surgery, yesterday. (Computer and phone are harder to view due to lighting) Old plasma TV looks great though! Left eye will be done 2 weeks from now. When I compare my left and right eyes, colors are significantly, radically brighter/better/normal/correct with the new lens. In particular, my WHITE refrigerator is pure white again (not eggshell white or light tan/beige white) and my RED Ford truck has probably bumped up 10 or 12 shades on the visible color spectrum.😀

I'm glad to know those painful anesthetic needles are no longer needed. I had a cataract removed from my right eye in 1980 and when they stuck those needles in behind my eye, it was extremely painful. Artificial lenses were fairly new at the time, and not many places did that, so I went 10 years using contacts in that eye. In 1990, I finally got the implant, but they still used those painful needles to deaden the eyelid, and whatever moves the eyeball. Now, I have one developing in my other eye, so am happy to hear it will be much less painful when the time comes. Btw, I was never nervous or apprehensive about the surgery, only the damn needles.

Dr Wong just watching this video has removed much of my apprehension and anxiety with my upcoming cataract surgeries in June 2022. I shall be meeting with my surgeon on May 10, 2022 for my "pre op" consultation in Prescott, AZ. I understand I shall be receiving an IV mild sedative of Versed to bring calmness, never had that previously, perhaps the Valium is a better choice? I am so very impressed with your videos Dr Wong. Your videos offer so much information and explanations of the cataract procedures. I was told "no lifting from the waist, bending, cooking, no water on my face, etc." Now after hearing your video (upgraded information from former restrictions) I feel much more relaxed referencing potential restrictions. Living alone some restrictions are not optimally a "good thing." I also prefer to have the eyedrops PMB rather than the Injectable end of surgery? I do use the Systane Hydration PF daily now for the dry eye. Thank you Dr Wong this video is absolutely fantastic, exceptionally informative. This is my 3rd viewing. If I lived in the Austin area I would have utilized your care. Will be reviewing this video again I am sure. This updated video should be viewed by any/all patients scheduled for cataract surgery.

I agree. I just had my first eye done today and learned si much about what went on and what to expect by watching this video. Praying for a great post op check tomorrow. Right now, 13 hrs post surgery, I still have some burning and my vision is blurry. Hopefully that's better by morning. My surgeon waa pretty thorough In explaining things, but I honestly don't even remember seeing him today, probably because of the sedative injection. I remember absolutely nothing about the surgery except talking to nurses, and knowing how I react to sedative meds, I probably talked the entire time. Meds like that make me talk, talk. Talk.

This presentation by Dr. Wong is phenomenal. He is reassuring and clearly explains every phase of the cataract surgery process. So comprehensive and easy to understand by a layperson.
I am three days post op from one eye done now and the other eye scheduled in two weeks. My eye care and surgery is in Charlottesville VA.
I'm 82 years old and look forward to more years of better vision. I only wish that I had gone through with this amazing surgery years ago when my ophthalmologist suggested it. Good luck to all who are thinking of getting this care and for those who are currently experiencing this procedure.
Thank you, Dr. Wong, for your magnificent coverage of this timely topic! Joanne H in Nellysford, VA

I had lasik cataract surgery 1 1/2 years ago. I had extreme astigmatism in my left eye, so I had it done first. I had the right eye done one week later. I Ontario Canada, lasik isn't covered by our provincial health insurance. I had made an appointment to see a traditional surgeon, and it would have been 6 month wait for a consultation and probably 6 months to 12 months after the consult for surgery. My Optometrist suggested trying to contact the Lasix clinic. I had a consultation appointment 1 week later, and surgery 2 weeks after that. I was honestly a miracle for me. I had been wearing glasses since I was 8 years old for amblyopia. Now I have 20/20 distance vision and wear reading glasses. I was so happy to pay the cost of the lasix. I realize that not everyone can afford it, but highly recommend to those who can. Excellent presentation.
