  • What is a ka? In ancient Egypt, the ka was one of the parts of a person. The ka was created at the same time as a person’s body, but it lived on after the body died. In this video, you’ll learn the 3 most important things that you need to know to understand the ancient Egyptian ka.

    This book by Salima Ikram is my favorite general introduction to death, burial, and afterlife beliefs and practices in ancient Egypt. It is a great introduction to a variety of topics related to the afterlife, including the parts of the person, such as the ba. I like it so much that I use it as the main text in one of my courses:
    ☥Ikram, Death and Burial in Ancient Egypt - amzn.to/2wXo6BS
    If you’re looking for an introduction to the wider subject of ancient Egyptian religion, this book by Teeter is one I love to use when teaching ancient Egyptian religion. It covers many aspects of ancient Egyptian belief and ritual and devotes an entire chapter to death and afterlife beliefs and rituals:

    This is the best presentation I have seen for ancient Egyptian concepts. A professor of Egyptology said to me that the ancient Egyptians were the most advanced people in ancient times in dealing with the life after death. She said “Ancient Egyptians were able to overcome the s candle of death”
    I came across your wonderful video when I was searching this matter. You did a wonderful job.
    Thanks a million

    I heard that after generations they had so many mummies with the KA that they actually spent more meoney on food for all the KA's than on their own living family. And that became a huge problem during years of starvation. So that is also reasons for the paintings of food being made. very cool indeed... And the KA was also there to protect the mummy... i guess that is why the Mummies form Egypt look so alive. I have seen a few of them and they feel like they have some kind of energy - like they have some type of life... I wish we knew more about their lives than we do.. much is just guessing..

    For my ka, pizza and ice cream and wine! I really have enjoyed the videos about the ka and the ba. Leaving/providing food reminds me of the death/after-death practices of many cultures. I'm especially thinking of Dia de los Muertos, which begins today and ends on Nov. 2. People picnic near the graves of loved ones, and IIRC, give them food.

      Yes! One an definitely compare some Egyptian practices with the Day of the Dead. I mentioned it in a video I made about festivals last December. I don’t have the link handy, but you can find it in the uploads section of my channel.

    • @camerontaylor7471
      @camerontaylor7471 Před 4 lety

      Yes because everything is Egypt, the priest of Egypt are the free masons, and they traveled all across earth and merged themselves within all of the native tribes and then incorporated the Egyptian/free Masonic rituals and culture into the tribes... essentially the free Masonic world is the celebration of DEATH and it is a DEATH cult which can be interpreted as ‘Anti-Christ’ because CHRIST means LIFE, so they are ANTI-LIFE, which means it’s rituals are SATANIC because it is the act of withdrawing from REALITY/LIFE and FALLING into the FANTASY of dressing up in COSTUME and playing MAKE BELIEVE/ACTING out a SCRIPT...sound familiar? The only purpose to life is to be custodians of the earth, to take care of animals, to create a garden, and to share the gift of life and what you have created in NATURE with your future children, and there children’s children! But MAN has walked away from the true SENSORY purposes of life, and has fallen into the NON-SENSE of the Mind/intellect/ego... essentially a NARRATIVE, a SCRIPT, a STORYLINE, and it projects and forms the EGO, the SELF, the I AM, the ME,MYSELF, and I... and this is a DEMON who only lives to project ITSELF over the living presence of the body of MAN, that is what the ancient Egyptians created, that is the MYSTERY, and that is what they are worshipping, the EGO is GOD!

    This is very enlightening, but at the same time perplexing. I had a vision/dream, nearly 2 decades ago, that i was standing over a well/cavern/holding cell. Tricking someone I was deeply bonded with, like a brother, into going down into it. Then locking them in. I didn't feel like they had good intentions for the world, so I "imprisoned" them. And as distinctly as as I still hear it today, is their voice yelling "Ka!" And FYI, I am not a drug user. LOL

    Did people visiting the graves of relatives eat the offerings themselves after time had passed?

    • @VoicesofAncientEgypt
      @VoicesofAncientEgypt  Před 5 lety

      Good question! They probably did. We do not have direct evidence of family members doing so, but we do have evidence that shows priests were paid from the offerings that they offered to gods and the dead (the dead who could have afforded to hire a priest for the purpose). So it's pretty likely that family members did the same "reversion of offerings" (as it's called in Egyptology circles).
