      Exactly! People seem to forget that this game, to get the "full" experience, is over 600 dollars. That's insane. That's worth about three Nintendo Switches or Xbox One S's for reference. Now, assuming you buy all those Switches or Xbox One S's, imagine that the Switch didn't come with any Joy-Cons or Xbox's hard drive was missing yet you spent the same exact money as full price. Ridiculous.

      @Will Clauson Yes but back in the Sims days it was like $10-$20 a pop, not $40 and each disc was a whole new experience, not just a handful of items and one new interaction. The new sewing pack is the first one I have seen advertised that looks like crap in my opinion. I will probably buy it anyway as truth be told, the sims is my only guilty pleasure outside of bills, but that being said I would likely have lost interest a while ago if it were not for mods.

      @@Lord_Sebastian I hate to say it, but the price for base game and expansions packs haven't changed much since sims 2, at last where I live. If we take the height for inflation, that would say that you pay less for Sims 4, but also get less, because you get what pay for.
      If you only purchase on sale, expansion packs is cheaper or on price than the original Sims 1 expansion packs, and they have more content, and that is before inflation.

      13 Pies Thing is they always do a two hour gameplay footage before the product comes out. So it is not ppls fault if Gurus lie about what value the game has when they are shown. It is already telling that most EA Game Changers aside from LTR (former one, cause he told the truth) lie as well about game play. So either you take a risk to see for yourself or wait until someone not affiliated with EA buys the game.
      Also I get you saying to save your money but complaining about things that should have been in other packs is not being entitled. It is noticing the flaws of EA trying for more money for half assing content.
      Also it is clear that you have never played s2-3 other wise you would see how severely lacking the sims 4 is and why ppl have been complaining since base game. It’s not entitlement it’s respect for those that gave a damn about good content for your money.

      @Winifred That's a good point. My impression of Sims 4 is that it's a lot less buggy than Sims 3. But for the most part, it seems they achieved that by removing the things that were causing issues, not by going into the code and fixing whatever was actually causing the problem. As a result, we got the shallow gameplay that Carl is talking about.
      What I want, and what I feel many others want as well, is a relatively bug-free experience with gameplay depth. This is the 4th iteration of the series. EA/Maxis have made quite a lot of money from it and they have all the assets and experience from the previous iterations to work with. I'm well aware that many of those assets can't be imported directly into a new game engine, but a large percentage of them should be able to be reused with only relatively small modifications. And when that can't be done, the Sims team can fall back on the wealth of experience they gained from the previous games. Yes, many people have left that team over the years, but usually not before sharing that knowledge and experience with their successors. And if nothing else, those successors can take advantage of the wealth of feedback people have provided about the Sims games over the years.

      Plus, EA as a corporation has a history of stripping franchises down for monetization, then killing them when the fans walk away. They killed Dead Space that way, and a number of other series'. Sims has always been expensive, but sims 4 is first time where the game has felt truly stripped down and people are upset about it. If sims 5 follows this path, guaranteed it'll be the last sims, and yeah, that's worrisome. The ad that just came out today for Eco Living is the perfect example of all of this:
    - Sims 4 is now trying to target a younger audience so that their audience expects less
    - We are more than allowed in a capitalist system to be unhappy or disheartened by purchases we have made and we are allowed to let our views be heard. What's wrong with the capitalist system here is that there is no alternative. The sims has no real competition so do not have to improve their product. @mrsb50 Před 4 lety +1

      I’m sure they wish they had more time, too, but we know that’s not how this business works. Games of this size patch regularly because bugs are effectively unavoidable. I’ve done enough work like this to know the frustration of catching a bug during QA, having engineering make a fix, checking that the fix goes through, and then realizing that the bug has reappeared at launch, often because of some totally separate bug fix that knocked it loose again. As annoying as it is for the end user, I can assure you that for the people behind the product, it’s annoying and also frustrating and infuriating and even embarrassing and disappointing, because ultimately the people who put hours of work into this stuff want it to be good and they want people to be happy. I’ve worked for people whose reaction to finding a mistake was to email asking HOW DID THIS HAPPEN as though the concept of error-human or machine or otherwise-is foreign to them, when all I needed was a heads up that something was wrong so that I could get the ball rolling to fix it.
      That’s why I think it’s important to put bugs and mistakes into context and to respect the people behind the game by assuming by default that the bugs and mistakes we see were at minimum caught along the way, not that the team is lazy or stupid, like they fell asleep at the wheel and forgot a toilet and no one cared enough to notice. (I know you didn’t really couch it this way, but I’ve seen enough people who do to feel comfortable with the generalization.) If you run into a bug, report it! And when they ask for feedback, make it a point to not focus exclusively on the negatives. Hearing about what you like and what works well is just as valuable as hearing about what you dislike and what’s broken, and it’s just generally encouraging when you know that your hard work is appreciated.

    I feel like the whole “be grateful” thing really started or is mainly about the response we gave to the 20th anniversary “present” we got as a free base game update. But now it’s snowballed into something bigger after the voting for Nifty Knitting, the Tiny Living release and after the reveal of Eco Lifestyle. I really hope that people can be respectful of others but everyone is allowed to give their unbiased opinion, especially when they’ve spent their hard earned money on it. I love magic and witchcraft and sorcery in general and I was so hyped for Realm of Magic, which I bought with my own money and I was honestly so disappointed when playing it. So, I’m entitled because I feel like when I got watered down gameplay from a game pack? I’m entitled because I thought they were giving us some really complex gameplay features with what looked like at the time, light and dark magic, “good vs. evil” spell casters or even more nuanced grey area ones but we got a super kids friendly version instead that got boring really fast?
    I really feel for console players cause you can always add mods on PC’s to try and create more meaningful gameplay, but they just have to live with it as is in their houses with no toilets. I also feel that it’s more evident how shallow the pack was in some of the let’s plays that came out after RoM. I’ve only seen a few CZcamsrs do a full let’s play and not a mini one off series or just build/buy and CAS. Even Semaj couldn’t stay engaged with mods and could barely make it to 10 episodes. Does it suck that babies are about as exciting as a "matter cube?" Yes, come on EA, do something! Am I going to let it ruin a new pack that I have not played yet, but looks different, exciting and game-altering? Absolutely not, I am pumped for the new pack!
    Also, I am going to be respectful to all involved in this process, from Guru to Game Changer. Some of the repetitive comments, snide remarks and downright rudeness on videos and posts make me embarrassed to be associated with Sims players. I'm not here to defend EA or tell people to stop asking for what they want, but manners, timing and relevance. I am 100% sure that the team know that we want babies, cars and a farm pack by now. Personally, as much as I want to see this game improve (and there is a lot to improve on,) I still love it and enjoy playing it.

      I am also a long time player and still play and enjoy the sims 4 but I think it's perfectly okay to angrily rant about it in comment sections. I also believe they know what we want but after 6 years it is really starting to feel like they can't deliver. I don't think anyone should harass the gurus or game changers or be rude to anyone, but to express disappointment about a new expansion and all the basic things we expect to see updated is perfectly fine imo. Although I will admit the fake farm pack rumour did affect my reception towards the latest expansion, on a closer look I am still not happy with what the new expansion offers so far.

      @@naryainc I agree with you, ranting in comments sections is perfectly fine, and yes, we have been nagging for the same things over and over without seeing any progress, and in some case, acknowledgment of what we are nagging for. We need to be loud, critique the game and give our feedback. Regarding the pack, I think it is a personal preference and play style at the end of the day. As you said, the farm pack rumours did affect peoples reception. I would have frikken LOVED a farm pack, but I'm really excited for Eco-Living, too. What annoys me is people being rude and petty in the comments, and putting a baby update in the same category as a new pack. "We wanted babies and you gave us Eco-what-what!" They are separate issues in my mind. And heaven help EA if they update babies in the form of paid DLC. I just want to give this pack a chance, and hope that it's not going to be another flop.

Yet anytime I see clips of sims 2 or 3 I remember features I had completely forgotten about, and suddenly miss them and feel let down all over again. Sims 5 is at this point a year overdue based off their previous release schedule, and sims 4 hasn’t even caught up yet. But hey, we’re getting more cozy sweaters with the new stuff pack >.>

    Perfectly said.
    Personally, I don't NEED a colorwheel if given good swatches. Because to be serious the colorwheel was to make our OWN swatches. What did I previously use the colorwheel for? To make things MATCH, so the weird shades of blue carried through rather than have that ONE item with an off color that didn't go with anything, same for be it clothes or furniture. With proper swatches that would not be necessary. Just saying.
    It does feel like gameplay is a downgrade from 2 and 3, in some ways even from 1. Too many things that were full play in all three first iterations are just nods in the fourth. I recently played sims 1, and the gameplay on that one in comparison to 4 is insane, in favor of 1 not 4. Sure the graphics aren't as good and somethings aren't as smoothly done as 4, but the playability is still much much better. That's truly saying something. And pretty much what you've said, but adding in sims 1. I don't know if you have played 1, but I think you would find it educational to be able to compare them since you can really judge the improvement from 1 to 2 and then again 2 to 3, but the crazy thing is judging playability of 1 to 4. It really does seem ... dumbed down isn't the right word, its more like watered down in some ways.
    I know, I'm saying the same things, but darn it, it just has to be said. And I love that you say these things because people who have been playing since sims 1 started really feel this way.

      I honestly didn’t like the colourwheel, it always took so much time to match everything. I would love the swatch system from the sims 2 where we could decide on which bedding on which wood (taking Beds as example). I really can’t understand why they didn’t choose it for the Sims 4, because it would have been easy customization compared to the wheel and they were able to do it in 2.

      And I’ve played since Sims 1 and even thinking back to it, it’s better core gameplay than Sims 4. And that was the first game out the Maxis gate and it only got better... 4 just dropped the ball. I mean, nothing is random. For some reason they took out cops and robbers and firefighters. Why? To make it more kid-friendly? I was a kid playing Sims 1, it didn’t need to be dumbed down. I’m just confused at the direction they took for Sims 4. It’s so dumbed down that it’s boring. Where is the random excitement from having your house invaded in the middle of the night? And, believe it or not, I haven’t had a single fire since I started playing back in October of last year (I got the base game free, so finally gave it a chance), why? Is fire that bad that it can’t be in the game? I assume there is fire because I’ve seen it in let’s plays, but none of my sims have had one. It’s all just so boring. At this point, I tend to get on, spend an hour creating a sim, building a house, picking a career, and then log out. It’s rare I play more than an hour and I don’t play every day. I play, maybe once a week. I have other games that were cheaper be way more exciting. Like, Stardew Valley. I paid $10 for it and I’ve been playing it ever since it came out AND it gets free updates. Yet, I’m supposed to be grateful for Sims 4? 🙄

      Lady at Large Capitalism has done a great job of making us think companies are people simply because they employ people, but companies just want money. People will defend them to the death, even when the company has blatantly bad/evil practices that harm them directly. Then, you have people who pay their hard earned money on something, and if it’s bad, feel they just have to suck it up and be grateful. Since capitalism is a thing, people really need to learn the value of their dollar. The ONLY reason so many things are as good as they are, today, is because people spoke out, either through protests, boycotts, or unions, and things changed. Now, people are just... lazy, for lack of a better phrase, and if things don’t just get better on their own, somehow, then they just accept it. Like with the Sims, they just keep giving them their money. And while we are just talking about a game here, it’s a small example of what’s going on in the world. People wanting better working conditions being called entitled. Imagine telling someone they need to just accept bad treatment or dangerous conditions because you need to be grateful you have a job. Unfortunately, that’s the world... and it’s also EA and The Sims and the sim community.

    I have seen many of entitled sims gamers, and let me be clear, being critical isn't being entitled. Being entitled is the Sims 4 team putting out something pc players have that console players don't have and saying its big news when it kinda is for console players, but certain simmers wanted more features that they specifically want. Usually i find that its exactly as that last sentence, the sims team announces something, is pretty open how the game is going to be, then when the game pack/etc releases some players freak out because the one thing that they wanted in there wasn't in there, and specifically when the devs clearly said what was going to be there. Setting unrealistic expectations onto a game especially the sims 4 team when they are so restricted on what they can or cannot do by their management is pretty entitled to me. Wanting more features is not entitled, but not getting the one or two things you wanted that weren't announced seems entitled to me. Then critiquing the game is fine, that's usually after the game is out and deals directly with how the gameplay is. I have a ton of critiques with the sims 4, for instance l how some older packs/etc don't even really work or aren't compatible with other packs, or main game updates, some of the gameplay loops are kinda dull, random strangers freezing your character so they can run all the way across the lot to talk to your character even though they don't know you, and many more. I do seriously hope paralives is a big success because hopefully it will stop the sims devs from being lazy, or so restrictive on their game for the sake of being E for everyone.

      No one is asking for special treatment or feel we deserve anything we did not pay for. We all pay for this game and, because of previous games we had valid expectations; we don’t just expect it given to us or to be completely perfect. We ask for features that have been in previous games to be included and better game play. That’s not special treatment. That’s why it blows my mind to see so many players saying we are all entitled and toxic for this.

    I'm a musician so I have a great analogy. When you buy an instrument it can have a little scratch on it and you automatically deserve to have it exchanged. Some of my instruments cost LESS than TS4 with all of the content. It's freaking ridiculous. And with instruments sometimes you are ENTITLED to have your instrument maintained, fixed and taken care of by the makers as soon as ANY problem with it comes up. You spent your money and you do indeed deserve to get your money worth. There is absolutely no reason why a game should not be like that too, especially with how much it costs and how hard/long you would have to work to afford all of the content. It's just basic respect towards your customer who trusted you and gave you their money. They could have spent it on ANYTHING but they chose to spend it on your game. Talk about grateful... People who are pissy about it are bootlickers, don't understand how the world/capitalism works, are children or literally don't know anything about video games other than The Sims and some mobile games (Where the gamer is also just a coin purse to the developer and gets little while cashing out a lot... *cough* micro transactions *cough*. Talk about EA, right? EA and mobile games have a lot in common if you think about it.). Being EnTiTlEd just means nothing at this point to some people, it's 'offended' all over again. It can be a positive/normal thing too. Entitlement doesn't automatically equal bad. It would be bad if all of those people complaining got it for free but that's just not how it is.
    Also, 'complaining' done by adult, intelligent fans is literally just free work/labor done voluntarily. They could be doing anything and yet they spend their time and energy trying to HELP the company that doesn't respect them/their money. The company, especially such a big and famous one should be the one busting their asses trying to please the customers and think hard and long how to release a perfect product and how to fix the mistakes. The fact that fans, who paid SO MUCH money, trusted them and ended up getting something not 100% satisfying still love the game enough/still trust them and do the work for them even going to the lengths of fixing the game for them with mods is unspeakable. But sure, fans are the bad ones... The fans are literally the backbone of this franchise. The Sims would literally not survive until this point if it wasn't for the fans, the custom content, the feedback. So to come for them is absolutely ridiculous. If anything, the Sims community is one of the most patient, understanding, tolerant, passionate, hard working, altruistic and least entitled fandoms out there.

    Thank you Carl! This really needed to be said. I feel like I see this argument all of the time on the forums. We, as paying customers are allowed to give feedback whether that be positive or “negative.” I’ve been playing sims since day 1. I’ve seen the good and the bad with it through out the years. If someone wants to express what they don’t like about it in a respectful way, I don’t see the problem.

  • @stiras1
    @stiras1 Před 4 lety +6

    I don't think people who complain are entitled, but I have noticed some people who are just mean with their criticism. It is possible to criticise and be respectful at the same time. Like when the Sims team makes a pack that you don't want, it doesn't automatically make it rubbish, and it doesn't mean that they are not working hard developing the game. I've also noticed some childish comments under videos and tweets posted by The Sims team where people only comment to say that they are going to be playing Paralives in the future. It is fine to be exited about Paralives, but if they don't care about The Sims anymore, why are they watching their videos and spending time commenting? It just makes them seem petulant.

    • @12wer3wer9
      @12wer3wer9 Před 4 lety +1

      But of course they still care. Otherwise those people would not even bother commenting. It's just part of the toxic relationship with EA. They are so disapointed that they think that snarky remark is going to make it so, that EA improves the Sims 4, now of a sudden. Why bother saying that Paralivs is going to kill the Sims, if not to crank up EA to take the competition seriously and to bring out a better product. All those people are Sims fans at their core. They are just not happy with 4. If 5 turns out to be a great game, I'm sure many would pick it up. :)

    Its made worse from the fact we have previous games from past iterations that display what they are CAPABLE to deliver. I bought into Sims 4 after years of options with Sims 2, with half the packs and still waiting for certain features I enjoyed so much. When I got Some 2 apartments I was allowed to make my own apartment buildings however I wanted. With city living we are far more constrained. I still play the heck out of Myshuno. But having the comparison dulls the fun. Each pack adds a bit back and something new, but also they bank on the mod community to cover the slack. Giving something then taking it away creates entitlement.

    • @mrsb50
      @mrsb50 Před 4 lety +1

      Goblinface Graphics The difference is that they were able to deliver that on a Sims 2 scale, when it was a completely different game. Compared to S4, build mode was way less fleshed out, so there were fewer things to have to account for when apartments came along. Now that we have more control, there’s more that they would need to change or even overhaul in order to make apartments fully functional while also making sure that it doesn’t impact other parts of the game already released. It’s possible that they tried it and it was too problematic to move forward. At the very least, I’d bet money that they wanted them to be fully functional and had to make the choice to pull it back somewhere in the development process. We know that apartments are complicated enough that they always come in expansions. To me, it’s entitled to think about it from that POV and still be mad that it’s not there just because a game from 16 years ago had something like it, especially given the trade offs in functionality that we’ve gotten in all of build mode. My own opinion? I’d love it if they had apartments built into S5 but I don’t want it at the expense of build mode being as restricted as it was in past games.

    Well I see you’re having fun in Photoshop haha. But anyways, thank you for making this video! I’ve seen so many people say we should be grateful the dev team is giving us content like???? We’re paying for this???? Why wouldn’t they? And they also get really mad at other sim CZcamsrs for pointing out flaws and complaining about the game. But I’ve also seen a lot of people extremely rude to the guru and say awful things to them and they really need to stop. The gurus are humans too and no one should be treated like that especially over a game since most of the people who say things like haven’t been buying eps for a long time now or never even bought the base game

    Completely agree. We are not entitled. We are expressing our disappointment on a product that keeps falling short. In fact, we are suggesting for things to improve the game for the betterment of the game. So really, if EA could only look at feedback as just that and just really listened to their fans, then this wouldn't drag on and on for every single pack they release.

Sims fans are loyal and have spent and continue to spend 'lots' of money on this game and its predecessors - we should be able to share our opinions and wishes 'respectfully'. So, thumbs up for this one and thanks ❤

    I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion as long as it doesn't become a habit. Like some youtubers ,of whom I can not name because I don't remember, make a habit of complaining about every pack that either has a few bugs, as can be expected, or if it's not something they like. I just think that instead of complaining about everything they should take a minute to appreciate what stuff we actually do have.
