2.5 years ago, my family was looking for a place to rent. We are 3 adult family members, me, my brother, and our mom. This means we need a place with 3 bedrooms and at least 2 bathrooms. We were struggling to find a decent place that we could afford. We wound up buying a brand new house instead of renting for less per month. My brother is a veteran, and he used his VA loan benefit to get a mortgage with a really good interest rate and no down payment. He bought the house so that my mom and I wouldn't have to struggle to make ends meet every month, and he didn't have to live alone. I am disabled and my particular set of challenges make it so that I can't live independently even if I could afford to.
😭😭 TRUTH Last year my roommate and I moved in together and everything was scraping by but with enough friends and family being a MAJOR source of groceries and food, we had it just I mean JUST month by month. It was cool, we were vibing, but then my medical issues exploded and I'm now disabled. My mother had to spend $3-$5k to get us and our belongings all the way from Texas to her tiny cheap little trailer up on the mountain. It's terrible and tiny, not the worst place I've lived in though. She happily pays the land payments and we just pay the park for rent and utilities. Our full payments every month are at the least? The same price of just the RENT at our one room apartment, not utilities or gas or food. This place is cheap and for a reason. But I'm unable to do anything, so my roommate is shouldering the full cost of rent because the process of getting disability payments takes forever. Of course my mom and her gf are understanding so if my roommate can't pay full (very isolated little town that usually only has temp jobs) my mom is fully willing to cover the rest. (She is still recovering from bringing us out here, and is living with her girlfriend and HER young son and they pay for two cars, a house, And the trailer.) It's only happened like twice in the past ten months, and my poor roommate is taking on almost all of the burdens that we were both dividing beforehand. Fortunately, my roommate is absolutely amazing and their hard work inspires me to push through the pain of health problems and at least try to get their laundry done and occasionally cook them a homemade meal. My roommate is also disabled. Our original agreement was because we were both chronically ill, I worked more bcz I physically could and they would pay less to rent. Now my roommate is blowing that out of the water in effort and working their ass off despite pain and chronic illness in the middle of the pandemic. And despite that, my roommate has also become my caretaker and is taking care of me more than anything else. They help me walk if I'm too dizzy. They help me speak over the phone and they know what to do during my collapses, migraines, mood swings, memory loss. They help me with chores, does most of it, just lets me point them around with instructions for food, for cleaning, for organizing the house. They'll get me food when I can't get up from bed and they take care of MY pets 50% of the time when I can't. My roommate is the biggest badass I know because they come home from work crying in pain with both knees in braces and they still ask what I need them to do before they go lay down. They're the greatest person I know and the most I can do is play with their hair and give them a hair mask when they want physical comfort and the tax break they'll get for my complete dependence on them. Don't discount internet friends. We had never met in person before the day we moved in together. I knew I struck roommate and best friend gold from the very first week. And my roommate has only doubled down. I can't wait for my disability payments to come in, to start helping on rent and pay for a cleaning company to do chores I can't and to get them snacks and treats and games whenever they feel bad. The past year has been the worst of my very awful life, but it's also been the fucking best and I hope I can tell Kade how much their hard work means to me and repay them someday, somehow.
My brother mooched off me for a year and a half and left me with over 3000 to pay back in fees and everything on the place. He still spends time with us and pretends like he doesn't owe me 3000 dollars. If your family can do it to you, anyone can. Screw roommates

We're really stuck in an endless loop of things getting more expensive while people don't want to pay better for workers. Then the older generations have the audacity to say that we're lazy, meanwhile most people have to work two jobs *minimum* just to barely get by. The worst part is, most big corporations have enough money to increase their pay, it's just that they want to test the waters to see how much they can get away with by paying as little as possible. It's messed up and I highly doubt it'll change anytime soon.
We're still at $7.25 minimum wage since 2009 & couldn't even get $15/hour passed recently from conservatives blocking it. And that's not even close to enough survive on. The richest have too much power in this country & it's getting worse. We need a 21st century New Deal!
Its so infuriating how ridiculous this has gotten 😭 you are so right, this is a legit problem that could be solved if the system wasn't so corrupt and greedy.
It's less about seeing what they can get away with and more about pursuing record-breaking profits yearly. What they can get away with is a byproduct of this top richest and growth list shit. It's a competition amongst the rich to keep infinitely growing and a huge part of that comes from maintaining work staff at minimum levels while giving as little pay as possible. I see this happen even amongst new startups where they expect to be able to operate the same way as large businesses with the grandest of plans at getting rich as fast as possible. The end result turns into a failure due to being severely understaffed and being way too ambitious during their initial years. For example, we had this new york style bagel shop open in my small town that was a huge hit, they failed because the owner only wanted to hire 2 people to run the place, operate for only 8 hours a day 5 days a week, and then the owner kept using all the profits to make constant flights between new york and Florida for cruises, beauty spas and live the high life. The owner blew through that cash fast and ended up shutting down despite the business making thousands in sales daily. In this case, the business plan was solid except they needed more people, whereas the ambitious side was living the high life immediately instead of building their business to run daily and all day. I actually had a simple solution to the issue the boss had with blowing profits too fast and told my friend that worked there to pitch it to their boss. If the boss wanted to stay in Florida and run the business as passive income, all she had to do was open a bank account here at the local credit union 2 blocks down the street, make one of the workers the manager, and have them handle the hiring, scheduling, restock, and cash deposits daily. Then send the boss paperwork through email for payroll and taxes and bookkeeping. It's essentially the same thing many franchise owners do with their own businesses. The owner refused the idea and instead let a great bagel shop die just because she didn't want to deal with doing bank transfers. Could have saved thousands on flights which was the main burden of her personal costs and not let the business accumulate some cash to grow. The best part of her business wasn't just the fact that it was a bagel shop, it was also located in a popular convenience store where their deli used to be, she had access to all their equipment for free, and the rent for the space was only 800 a month. Normal business buildings around here cost well over 10k per month to rent which is why new startups always fail in my town. It's all property owned by 1-2 families that own most of the town's property.

Hi. I work finance for a big corporation and this is not true at all. Most companies (like mine) raised prices in order to keep feeding the employees they currently have. Some had to make layoffs because there was no other area to cut $. People fail to realize companies spend a lot of $ to make $ and owners are not maintaining their bonuses but good ones are sacrificing so employees can still get raises next year. Also, every company naturally has debt owed to banks ect, so unfortunately prices also get raised in order to help pay that debt. People are not being as greedy as you assume.

My husband and I have been married now for 10 years, we’re in our 40s, we bought our first house in 2021. We did this with a USDA guaranteed loan with $0 down and for the first 5 years we pay PMI (mortgage insurance - which was only an extra $40 s month). Our actual mortgage is only $380 a month, but with home insurance and property taxes it is about $1100 total per month. We have a 3 bedroom house with an extra 2 rooms that could be bedrooms or hobby rooms, 2 bathrooms, half acre yard, surrounded by farms where we can buy milk and meat cheaper than the grocery stores, and I can own chickens, who give me a half dozen eggs a day now in the winter and 18 eggs a day during the summer. Big space for gardens and even space indoors for growing tents. We couldn’t find a 1 bedroom apartment in this area for less than $1500 a month. Renting is absurd now. My first 1 bedroom apartment that I rented when I moved out in 1998, $350 a month. Second apartment I rented was a 2 bedroom for $400 a month! Now you need to be making $30 or $40 per hour minimum to rent an apartment and it’s going to be a shoe box apartment. I was carefully watching the market and when we were in a position with a enough cash on hand to have afforded a down payment (though we didn’t need it in the end) we got our loan for only 2.5% interest. Everything in life is about being observant and timing.
Idk why you're blaming landlords. You should be blaming the idiots who caused this inflation with their out of control printing of money. For house prices to decrease, interest rates must increase in the current mess were in. That means every landlord on a variable rate, or who's mortgage comes up for refinancing, is also paying more money. Why would anybody rent out a property at a loss. You'd think they at want to break even.
Minimum wage is meant for entry level jobs. If you're making minimum wage three years after starting work, then you're doing something wrong. You should be advancing in your job, doing a good enough job to get raises, or moving to a better job. Community colleges and trade schools are a better deal than any university. So minimum wage isn't meant to be livable. It's meant for either a young person still living at home or a retired person looking for a little extra money.

A few places in the USA are trying to make this illegal though, by requiring all adults in a home be related by certain genetic ties or adoption or marriage. Not that many at the moment but they are just the test cases. If they don't get legally challenged soon as a violation of the Civil Rights and Fair Housing Acts (unlikely under present Supreme Court) there will be a lot more.
I had to lie on my apartment application pray 10000x and send in fake info because I was so broke from hotels and homeless and I spend over 24k a year on it for almost 5 years cuz I don’t currently have enough down payment for a home which I would have had if rents not 2k. Life is rough if you have nothing it’s hard to get the basics that’s the biggest struggle !!!!!
Chile keep job hopping. They try to tell us not to, but it’s the best way to negotiate and increase wages. Also, stop letting ppl low ball you with job offers. I just got an offer and I’m refusing it because I told them my minimum & they came back $4K under and want me to drive my own vehicle . No no no, I’m not accepting it anymore knowing ppl fresh out of college making 2-3xs what I’m making.
We have the same thing in the Bahamas where rent is like the same cost as minimum wage, which is what the majority of entry level positions pay. Others are much less accessible and between the costs of food, Healthcare, gas and other necessities due to have customs duties the cost of living here is wack. Less than 10% of Bahamians make enough to live here comfortably

@Oleanderz I'm an operator on a pulling unit in the oilfield. I got the house for $88,000 and it appraised for $95,000. Where I live that's a little lower than average but I got a really good deal on it and it basically just needs some basic remodeling. New cabinets in the kitchen, a couple doors some yard work stuff like that
The bubbles gonna pop, no one's going to be able to live in the houses these big ass companies are all buying up in bulk and they'll be left holding the bag. Then squeal that they need the Gov' to help them.
Theres the banks at the top, (the owners of the private central banks are the people that are richer than the known richest people)then you got the governments, then its the stores like brands and all that have a monopoly on damn neareverything, then its the ceos, then the general managers, then workers. They took everything even air. Even water. Even dirt. Their names are over it and they get paid if you tresspass. Dont tresspass and try and live without it. Classism is the new racism and turns out your parents most likely arent good people. Watch out
The government officials are paid by the companies that buy up the real estate they will just sublet them to multiple people for equally Ludacris prices and you'll still have to pay it to live and not be homeless. The government wants your civil rights they will take away your means of living if you don't give them up this happened in Russia years ago.
Unfortunately, history has shown the government WILL help them (with tax payers money) but not the populace who are in actual need of help and have been affected by big businesses/banks bad decision making.

The only people who should be shamed about living at home are ones who are disrespectful. I watched my older brother basically sh it on my parents, refused to work or help around the house. Sat around and played video games all day then had the audacity to blame our family for his laziness. They finally kicked him out at 26 but oh lord did witnessing that motivate the hell out of me. There is nothing wrong with living at home and having no job, everyone is at their own walks of life. It’s how you treat those who are supporting you as well
Last year, when interest rates were over 5%, our house to be constructed was projected to cost over $3k/month before taxes. This year, the house is almost done and the rates are still over 7% and the monthly payment will now be over $4k/mo before taxes. You cant do this alone, on a single income, or with dependents nowadays.
The housing industry is practically just a monopoly, there is no actual reason for the prices to be that high. Its pretty much just them raising the price past what they reasonablely would need to grow as a company
People know this too. And wont do a damn thing about it. Knowing we can change it, no one will make efforts. If the leader of a country wanted to press "the big red button" and destroy another country he couldnt do it if there were no janitors to clean up the place. He couldnt if the electrician came in at night and fucked up some wires or sum shit. Py point is theres power in the people but the ones ontop in the world dont want you to know that.
It's just as expensive elsewhere. The liberal agenda is to make it impossible to live without government assistance (the only way I can live is on govt assistance) they want your family to be beholdent to the government so they can take away your necessities if you don't comply. This same thing happened in Russia years ago and now nobody can own anything you have to rent from the rich or get help from the government. I get paid 50$ to live at my apartment and get 1000 a month in food stamps because me and my wife have children. I live in New York (upstate) average rent around me is about 1800$ if you’re looking for something luxury. My current apartment is honestly not that bad and it’s 900$ a month everything included. (Only meh thing is somewhat dated appliances) Additionally financing a mortgage right now is cheaper than renting. People just need to live within their means and realize your life isn’t a vacation. That being said staying with you’re parents until your comfortable is completely reasonable and a logical move.

Sometimes I feel like it’s becoming impossible for younger people to have children and a family. It’s so expensive just to survive and get by that so many young people have anxiety about having kids and while yes they should be cautious it’s just sad to see people legit not want kids bc cause it’s so expensive and life’s so stressful already. And most people that can afford to raise kids work so darn much that they don’t really get to raise the kids anyways so….
To add insult to injury: my mom worked so much during my early years to feed me I called my aunt "Mama" because my baby brain didn't know my mom was my mom because she was always at work and my aunt babysat me a lot. Broke her heart for her own kid to call someone else Mama
It’s not going to prevent people from having children, just prevent them from raising children. Only going to lead to more abortions and overload of children up for adoption.

I own my condo. The ONLY reason I was able to do that is because I got lucky and my parents were well off enough to be able to afford to pay for most of my education. After I graduated and got a job, I was able to stay with my Grandma who did not charge rent. With all that help I could still only afford a small condo in my area. HOW THE FUCK is anyone less fortunate then me going to be able to afford rent, let alone a house! The system is broken. It needs to be fixed.

😭😭 TRUTH
Last year my roommate and I moved in together and everything was scraping by but with enough friends and family being a MAJOR source of groceries and food, we had it just I mean JUST month by month.
🙏

Some hope for you. I am continually seeing more and more videos about this sort of thing, in more and more mainstream places, and ive been hearing more and more people complain about the same stuff.
Not a single person that I knew from school owns a house yet and we graduated in '09. 2 of my friends moved back into their parents house... and now the rest of us are jealous.

Thank god I’m moving to the mainland with my brother and can have double income and where rent is cheaper in certain states. I can’t imagine other ppl living on literal minimum wage. Things need to change.
We asked for a livable minimum wage and all renters heard was "I'm now making more money for you to take from me" which is insane.
@@bite-sizedshorts9635 1, I'm actually making more than minimum wage. But I've worked dead end jobs.
2, not every place of employment actually let's you move up no matter how hard you work, even if they say they do

And someone has to do it regardless. Do those people not deserve a livable wage? Most single mothers have been in the food industry and quite often struggle to make ends meet. Do they not deserve a livable wage?
Everything you said sounds like you speak from a place of not having been stuck in minimum wage and not having to struggle to make ends meet. And if you have, that's great that you made it out, but not everyone is so lucky. @@Mike-pn8ln for a basic landlord, yes, but depending on the area you live in, most apartments aren't just rented out houses. HELP. I’ve raised the difficulty and can’t go back. And it’s been like this since high school.
Thats the ficked up part!
This is why I’m considering moving out of the US. I shouldn’t have to stress myself out about just the basics like …food and shelter.
I hear Australia is a good option
It's just as expensive elsewhere. The liberal agenda is to make it impossible to live without government assistance (the only way I can live is on govt assistance) they want your family to be beholdent to the government so they can take away your necessities if you don't comply. This same thing happened in Russia years ago and now nobody can own anything you have to rent from the rich or get help from the government. I get paid 50$ to live at my apartment and get 1000 a month in food stamps because me and my wife have children. I own a business that is all cash deals so I can save up money to buy whatever we need. Still we barely scrape by because the cost of every utility and the cost of food increases almost weekly
You think it's cheaper overseas?
@@hiimjai6064 Not really
@@hiimjai6064 Australians spend a fair bit on rent. According to the September 2019 Domain Rental Report, the median property across the eight capital cities costs more than $400 per week
As someone who has been looking into buying a home, please don't remind me about how screwed I really am
I remember when I thought 25/hour was good money. Then I realized I need at least 35 to be comfortable. Now don't settle for jobs that pay less than 30 mostly because I can't afford not too. That's with a roommate btw.
My favorite part is my parents just don’t understand this.
Becareful because I've seen family fall out too for a number of reasons, but that's good y'all have the trust just keep communication open always, and y'all should be just fine! ♥️

You know, most single bedroom apartments don’t cost anywhere near $2000.
Yo same and my parents constantly want to kick me out. I'm ready to be homeless with 3 diplomas at this point 🤷🏽
@@noaheadie503 depends on where you live...that cost MORE than that in FL
straight up homie.
I been trying to get my own place for 10 yrs.
in 2009 I thought if I could just get up to 10/hr I'd be set.... I'm at 17.50 now and got my own place finally. no microwave, no internet, no car. just a phone and a heater and a bed.
Wayne Carter- "🖕 tha world " 😂
I live in New York (upstate) average rent around me is about 1800$ if you’re looking for something luxury.
It's really not a wise decision because it stagnants you developmentally. You need to be out by 26 bare minimum.
Idk how it is everywhere else but in the Bay Area most property mgmt companies require every adult on the lease to qualify. They don't combine your incomes.
The median rent is now $1900/month in the US.
In Manhattan, its $5200/month.
well think about it this way.
half the rent is cheaper than that.
Dude outside of Wilmington NC majority of places are 2k but if you find a cheap place your living in a trailer in the middle of corn field 1-2 hours away from work -.-
Heck in major cities it’s 2k+ need a credit score of 850+ need 3 times the rent and then there’s new stipulations of “No roommates” age restrictions that make no sense or in general no pets not even fish…FISH!!!
@@remix7345 think of it this way, most of those that ONLY cost 5200$ are one bedrooms or studios.
And they wonder why all these women exposing themselves on the internet. They need more income to remain independent lol rent too high.
And this is why younger generations just care less about working. It's just a complete uphill battle with dudes in suits pushing you back down the whole time
Nah its like the big wall run from american ninja warrior. Cause beforehand people got to run up to get further up the wall. Its like they took the running space from us and now people expect us to get just as far with no space to run

No, that’s just untrue, lmao. In any place you will see the younger generation not care about working. Almost nobody anywhere WANTS to work.
@@ioncekilledamanwithmyshoe can you blame us when we're gonna end up homeless anyways
Exactly, yet boomers will call young people lazy cause they don't want to work. Its not that we don't want to work, we do, but if you're going be throwing away years of our life atleast make it so we can actually be capable of surviving on our own and be able to live
This is true! My rent has almost doubled and I am struggling so hard right now! 😭
God just let me be a 17 year old for the rest of my life. There's no way in hell the average person can make 100k+ a year just for the *option* to rent a place. I don't even live in America and this scares me.
I hate it here I want live somewhere cheaper
The fact that the shit is in our faces and we accept it is sad and makes me mad. If everyone quit their job for a week, things will get better. They will have to negotiate. They live comfortably, why can't we. Rise up people.
What’s the plan?
@@Kal-El207 the plan is to quietly pick one week out of the year that ALL American workers "quit their job" . I believe the women of Iceland did this and it turned out great.
@@hellohey000do you think they’ll outsource our jobs. Especially those in tech with process and procedural documentation?
@scratchNsniff No they won't. the minimum wage heavy labor jobs yes. the high tech one's that requires years of qualifications? not likely.

I really feel bad for people in this situation. I was blessed to have 10 acres of family land out in the country that belonged to my grandparents. We found a used single wide mobile home that need a little work that ended up costing around $12k delivered, set up, and completing the work that it needed. $9,000 a month for rent?! My mortgage is $1000 a month, this is insane

This is why idgaf about still being at my parents house.
I work at the “phone company “, taxes just went up on my home, groceries, fuel and energy costs are up as well. Everyone asks if I “do well”. I’ve been working 6 days the last 2 months to keep up. SMH!
Key word: "average". Not everyone pays 2k-3k per month, that is just the country's average.
