  • Maybe our first productive week since little one came along, I am still not sure we can manage it all but it's getting easier.
Here is our most current floorplan -
    drive.google.c...
It was so fun doing this with our bedroom and I cant wait to see different perspectives on the space!

I wouldn't increase the size of the shed if I were you. If either of you ever gets into gardening, you'll be really sad to have lost that space for plants. And the shed is already huuuuge! I feel like storage spaces always feel like they are just too small when they are not organized, like there's not enough space to fit everything... but then you organize it properly, put in enough shelving etc, and suddenly you can see the floor again, you kept all your things, AND you did it all on the same footprint. But of course it's your house, it has to work for you :)

I dos agree. A bigger shed/garage means you have space to store things like bicycles, sports equipment etc. As well as space to enjoy hobbies ie musical equipment, exercise... You can always espalier plants against walls and fences to hide and blur the boundaries of the garden size. This will make a much more manageable garden. Bushes are higher maintenance.

Hi Laura. You and Ollie are truly amazing. You continue the hard work even with baby Teddy to look after. It is the best time because as a toddler you won’t be able to take your eyes off of him. U can get lots more done now. Thank u for sharing. I especially love that you are so honest about real life. It is not always so smooth and easy and organized. It takes time and energy but you and Ollie seem to thrive and like the challenges of the DIY work. I so admire you both as new parents!!!!!

Great video, but I sooo wanted to see your gorgeous boy Teddy! Had a quick glimpse of Oscar, your wonderful dog. I suggest using Rapid Racking for your bits and bobs in your shed, they are so easy to put up, and are great. You will find then that you need less space, and do not need to increase the size of your shed. You seem so happy, which is wonderful to see - keep healthy, happy and loving. Blessings from Jilly & Madge the rescue greyhound, from a sunny West Devon, England. xxx

I don't think the shed needs to be bigger, at least not double like Ollie sugested. Without the awkward walls and doorways, a good storage system and perhaps some taller walls for long term storage up high, it will probably be enough space for you

Make the most of Teddy not being mobile! As soon as they’re on the move it’s much harder. Extension will be great I’m sure x

100% can do it but expect it to be a lot slower. We got the keys to the FULL reno we’re doing when we found out about our baby. 3 years on he’s 2.5 and we’re still YEARS off. We’ve accepted it now but it was hard to go slow. We’ll get there in the end as will you. You’re doing so well!

Laura, please consider giving Edward's baby clothes to your local baby bank. They offer such a wonderful resource to families in need with new babies.
We flew to Sydney with 11month old twin girls, and it was an experience. Have to say it got harder over the years as they got more mobile! If you can, consider a break either in Singapore airport overnight or on the Qantas flight have a break in Perth. Qantas staff are amazingly supportive of parents and littles. Check with your airline in respect of th allowances they make for baby paraphernalia and but the best seats that you can afford. Also, go disposable on everything- it's no time to be eco conscious😅.

I had to store my 2 long sofas on their ends in my storage space because it wasn’t big, but it was very tall. They were like that for 2 years (on a moving blanket) and they held up perfectly. Just wanted to give you that as an idea. We surrounded them with more furniture so they wouldn’t tip over, but they weren’t tippy at all.

Hi Laura. I so admire you and Ollie as you’re never afraid of hard work. It often looks so daunting but you always make such a fantastic job of things and when all your renovations have been completed you will have a gorgeous home. However, if I’m correct in my thinking, you’ll always be on the lookout for the next project! 💖🌸

Hi Laura. Excited for you about the extension! More open concept and usable space is always good. I design house plans for a living and I’d like to suggest using the area between the formal dining and the eat in kitchen as a walk through ‘butlers pantry’. I’m from Canada and walk in pantry’s / butlers pantry’s are quite popular. One side could be full cupboard storage and the other a counter / sideboard feel with open shelving? It looks wide enough to not feel too cramped. Good luck!

    • @dggigi
      @dggigi Před 4 měsíci

agree with the Butler's pantry idea. I think you will want more of a connection between the dining room and the kitchen (fewer steps for the cook!)

I like the floor plan, but would like to suggest: using pocket doors in the utility and the powder room. Where is the refrigerator located? I didn’t see that in the plan. Also have wondered why most British doors do not open to the wall, but, instead, open into the room itself. It’s much more convenient to open to the wall inside the room, as it makes entering/exiting smoother without having to walk around the open door. I don’t even know if this makes sense, as I can’t find the words to convey my meaning! Always look forward to your videos. I am always impressed at how well you and Ollie work together. And Baby Teddy is lovely! 🙏😊👍🏼

It would be great if you could add another doorway to the front of the shed so it’s easier to access. I always think the uncovered side would be a nice potting shed/greenhouse/storage if it were covered.

Where is the wedding in Australia? If you’re looking for accommodation in the Mornington Peninsula, give me a message. We are heading to the UK for a month at a similar time and could maybe offer you our home. We have a Labrador that comes with it but we know you love dogs. Plus we have all the baby bits and bobs for our grandson. Xx

Looking at the floor plans, I'm no expert, but do you need both the island and peninsula? It just looks a bit squeezed between the kitchen dinging to living area. I would either put a storage bench along to wall to get more room between the island or plan for a triangular table to open the space more or do away with the peninsula and have a slightly longer island. I really value open space with a sometimes clumsy young kid who likes to scoot indoors. If you keep both, will you have upper cabinet storage or open shelving. Whatever you do, get a lovely big fridge freezer! Even if its not built in. I kept all my daughters clothes which her new sister now wears, but had planned to sell/donate if number 2 was a boy. Yes it took up space (and the earliest clothes have travelled through 6 moves 🙈) but it saved lots of money and provided memories. However i now need to pass on but I'm not emotionally ready

Hi Laura, meet in the middle on the shed topic! Hear me out, your garden and yard will only look aesthetically pleasing/tidy if you have a place to hide everything. Even if your DIY tools are decreasing, your kid toys will only increase. What if you keep the footprint, the same size but reconfigure the inside to be more efficient/store large sheet items? I know it can feel like a silly area to spend money on, but if it makes projects/storage/life easier in the future, you won’t regret it!

I think a big shed with favourite fruit tree espaliered the wall would be marvellous. Also Australia is a kids paradise, lots of parks, lots of sunshine (except in winter in the mid to south areas) and some amazing beaches near each major cities cbd . (Except Canberra)

    Your floorplan looks great.
Just wondering where you were going to put your fridge/freezer though, because if you are having a tall one you would be best putting to the left of the sink and moving the sink and hob down a bit towards the lounge area, that way it wouldn't look too obtrusive.

Not sure about regulations where you live, but if you make the outer walls of your shed larger, you can double the space without going into the yard.

Bigger shed, smaller garden...espaliered plants along the walls and fences will blurr or hide the boundaries as well be lower maintenance than bushes.

I have a friend who lives in London and comes back to Sydney every 3 months with her baby who is now 15 months. They do the trip without staying anywhere on the way here and are okay with it which doesn’t mean you have to but it isn’t impossible. I did a few 15 hour flights with my boys when they were much younger (3 & 1), I took the younger ones car seat so he could comfortably sleep in it. Anyway I’m in Sydney and if you need any help organising anything at this end or want to know anything about Aus feel free to get in touch xx

What if you made the roof a bit higher for storage of items like wood above and would keep the wet out and use windows in the roof instead of corrugated build a real roof with tiles and guttering. This way you can use part of the upper shed for storage instead of in the house if it were dry for seasonal items or furniture. I am not surprised your going home after birth did not go as planned you both must have been tired. I don't know anyone who has every been able to do it actually. I don't even remember ever seeing my baptism gown I think that one could be adjusted with a tailor maybe if not could be recreated with elements of it.

I dont know if you have a laundry product called Biz in the UK. I have had success in removing stains and brightening white clothing such as the christening gown in a solution of Bix and cool water. Just let the garment soak for a couple of days and the stains or yellowing are gone.

All I can see is exhaustion, go go go, juggling so much, on the trot for 4 - 5 yrs so far, that surely will put strain on your relationship. Why doing that to yourselves soo young (only 30!!). When do you think you'll chillax and enjoy normal pace? When u retire??? Not sure if I admire you or ....🤦‍♀️🤪🤣
