Steve Mc Queen. One of the best albums ever made. Every song a masterpiece. Transports me back to ‘85 effortlessly.
You are right and you know it.
"One of the best albums ever made."
Seconded only by Swoon. Although "Bonny" is probably my favourite PS track.
I agree, John!
Best Prefab Spout album without a doubt. However in truth all of their albums were great.
Absolutely in my top 3 , just perfect. One of those albums that stayed on the turntable for weeks on end .I’m a huge prefab sprout fan , waited eagerly for every release and played the hell out of them .Paddy what a genius
I have been listening it from 80's to 2020. I'm 60 and I will never stop.
Went back and bought this on vinyl again recently, had it on tape originally in the 80’s, reintroduced myself to these absolute classics. What a record!
Just as me. Still my fav' song !! And i'm 51 years old 😀
@Flying lycan , can I commend you for your musical taste .
This must be Paddy's greatest ever song , if I had it on loop since mid 1980,s I don't think I would ever get sick of it neither .
I would give my left nut to see Prefab in concert sing Steve McQ +Langley Park
So so many memories as a kid to those albums 👍👏
I am also 60, this Song is genial!!
I must admit, I'm 26 and this is the first time I've heard a song that has moved me to tears in at least 5 years. I'm absolutely stunned by Prefab Sprout's music after only being introduced to them about a month ago. This song in particular is beautiful.
Shamefully I would have only known them previously from the King of Rock 'n' Roll!
one of the most creative pop bands from the 80's , with Adam Ant , Lloyd Cole , Heaven 17 , The Cure , ......
The best band ever! You must listening the accoustic version! Just a masterpiece!
You have taste!
Welcome to our world.
@@BlueHopi144 Thanks for mentioning Lloyd Cole. 80s song with some 60s folk vibe. From earnest lead singing to harmonies to guitar tension and not overdone atmosphere , not much to change. maybe some work on lyrics, dont know.
Probably one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
I haven't stopped playing it
Perfection....nobody writes anything these days that even comes close to this. Paddy is one of our greatest songwriters ever.
Bonney. Took it for granted. Prefab Sprout are great.
Still a kick ass , truly an
avant garde song .
Underrated Band , but really appreciated by Tears For Gears
Still superb. "People think it’s about my father’s death, but he wasn’t dead then - I imagined grief" The words of a genius.
I wish i could reset my brain so i can hear it for the first time
🖤
Prefab Sprout are responsible for some utterly beautiful music, and this has to be about their finest hour. It just oozes emotion and depth. Damn fine songwriting.
Just brilliant , an amazing album. The joy of sticking Steve McQueen on the turntable for the first time and just thinking my god how good is this . Some albums just capture a moment in time , I was 26 now almost 64 and still love listening to it , it’s timeless.
Prefab Sprout two words Brilliant and Class.
Have loved this song and album since 1985 ..... and now I dedicate this song to my beautiful daughter " Bonnie "
July 2021…..Bonny….I had the tape in my car in 1983…fell in love with this song….today it is still at the top of my play list….thank you….you just don’t get music like this anymore.
The album dropped in 1985, you must be confusing the date or the song.
Sad songs are generally the best of songs.....this is one such...I never tire of hearing this !
So True Lynda~!
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Words don't hold you, broken soldiers.
bonny is one of best songs i ve heard. together with when love breaks down goodby lucille appetite and others from steve mcqueen albom gives pleasure everytime i am listening to this album.
Quite simply the best song of all time, almost 30 years since Steve McQueen was released, and my love for this song will never wane, could cry every time I hear it.
Sums up my thoughts exactly .... will never tire of hearing this superb song.
yep agree, its the 'its too late' past tense of the lurics that really hit home,
'Save your speeches flowers are for funerals' , what a brilliant line.
Its pop perfection Nick .totally timeless
Every time it came on the radio, I'd take a break fdrom studying and reeally listen to it. Sing along and all that shit.
here we are , 10 years on , shiiiiiiit . Amazing song / Amazing group . God bless & protect Paddy with his various health issues. Hope he lives to 100 , do it Man ! ! !
Where has this been all my life? ❤
Paddy the man with the voice that heals souls and hearts
Masterpiece. So beautiful.
Life hid this from me until today. Thank you music.
Me too 😘
These wind sounds blowing from the past, the piano, the lyrics! Incredible production, leaves very far what is done today with much more resources.
Prefab Sprout: Absolute musical genuis. And this is today more meaningful than ever. If you dont understand why you aren't a musician.
simply one of the greatest song ever and so clever!
Truly one of the finest songs I've ever heard.
This song rips at my essence... It resonates on such an introspective level. It WAS a song of past laments, and years later, it becomes a mantra of my future. EFF me.
You have captured it brilliantly, love you phrase “rips at my essence”.
One of the greatest albums of all time .... DON"T KNOW PREFAB SPROUT? Listen to the first four tracks and you will see what a phenomenal band they are !
+William H. Baird there is paul mccartney and paddy mcaloon incredible talent !!! nobody knows that :(
+William H. Baird brilliant album 30 years later I love this
Errh,i don't think so.No connection at all in any way.Mccartney has proper memorable melodies in loads of different styles and unbelievable ideas.Mcaloon very limited, all the songs a great big nothingness mush of bloodless wet 'emotion'.
YES indeed.....this is a great song ....from a tremendous album
William H. Baird just happened to me today, I'm speechless..
I spend the days with my vanity
I'm lost in heaven and I'm lost to earth
Didn't give you minutes not even moments
All my life in a tower of foil
Shaded feelings, don't believe you
When you were there before my eyes
No one planned it took it for granted
I count the hours since you slipped away
I count the hours that I lie awake
I count the minutes and the seconds too
All I stole and I took from you
But Bonny don't live at home, Bonny don't live at home
Words don't hold you, broken soldiers
All my silence and my strained respect
Missed chances and the same regrets
Kiss the thief and you save the rest
All my insights from retrospect
But Bonny don't live at home, Bonny don't live at home
Save your speeches, flowers are for funerals
I once listened to this song every night for many years.
I lost it for 20 years. Found it again on the great interweb.
Seriously great band and brilliant songwriting. The eighties were a golden time for music.
Amazing song and album. Still listening to it in 2020...and beyond.
Awesome song, trully magnificient...Paddy McAllon is arguably one of the 3 best and most prolific pop songwriters of all time
Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.
This and 'Appetite' are my fave ever Sprout tracks - pure joy.........
The lyrics are absolutely amazing, poetic and succinct, he's a class singer / song writer.
yep - they were great band - sad they never hit it big - they one of the more under rated bands of the 1980s.....this is one of my favorites - my other favorites are: Life of Surpises, Faron Young, We let the stars go, One of the broken, Goodbye Lucille, Cars & Girls, Appetite, Scarlet nights, jesse james and Carnival 2000
some of the sentences in this track are so unique, hes a wordsmith.
I
bradharri I agree.....the lyrics on this song are outstanding
Deceptively simple, bewitchingly complex, my respect for Thomas Dolby as producer and Prefab Sprout as Risk taking and uncompromising song-writers grows every time I hear this composition, more than a song, it’s a direct line to the sublime.
This is real beauty..
This song became part of me since day one; it touches something inside my soul. Paddy McAloon is one of the best songwriters ever and only a few people are aware of that. Great photo collage, Thanks
There is no music like this... Absolutely Amazing!!!!
Pop perfection
Probably one of my favourite Prefab Sprout song ever (and there are many fantastic tracks !! ) and possibly my favoutite ever song. Reminds me of Summer 1985, my mate Phil Brough picking me up for work at the pit in his VW Scirroco and having this on cassette on the way .... The depth of emotion in the vocal is unsurpassed on any other song - particularly the venom of ' my strained respect' - best song ever ? The man is a genius.
Yes i like it too a very good song !!
I like this song,too.
***** I also like the song Paris Smith a lot/but there all good tunes when your in the mood !!
kevanhughes I massively agree, they nourished my soul back then and I always tear up with this one, also my favourite track
The best music in earth...FOREVER and ever!!!

Greetings from Danmark 🇩🇰
God i miss the 1980s so much it makes my heart hurt
joshua langley exactly what i am doing right now. Merry Xmas 💚
There was a time when I was not ready to feel nostalgic for '80's music, and the 90's were good, but God did everything just fall apart after that...
Me too!
I think the same the way about my childhood, late 80s/90s...there's so many things I want back. I've come to appreciate the 70s and 80s music more lately than usual
Music was great. Unemployment not so much. Did give you an opportunity to listen to the great music though.
Simply put, an achingly beautiful, evocative song.
for few seconds, my life in another millenium came back to memories
Paddy McAloon: genius!!
Truer words never appeared in a CZcams comment.
Y E S ..
One of the greatest songs ever written. I had the pleasure of meeting Paddy McAloon. A top, top bloke. I met Iggy Pop on the same day. (I bought him a cup of tea..)
Gary MacMillan what is Paddy like???
@@V8AmericanMuscleCar A top, top bloke.
Not many songs give me goosebumps and make the hairs on my arms raise, but this one definitely does.
Paddy McAloon est un génie absolu ! Musicalement, vocalement et dans l'écriture. Du bonheur à l'état pur.
Paddy= total art and genius, pure gold- 80s were a pool of awesome stuff, BEST decade for music, life and nice girls- infected till the end.....
Prefab Sprout at the top of their absolutely immense game. The best of the 80s shining like a diamond in one track👌
I absolutely love this song. It brings happiness and sadness ❤️
Why am I still listening to this after 34. Years: simple this is one of the very best songs/albums from the 1980s. Superb lyrics that cut to the heart.
One of the great choruses in modern music. Anyone who has regrets in relationships would fully understand!
Those were the days when you'd listen to a whole album
I still do this!
Not really, discovered this song on a tape in Hawaii in 1992.. Never heard the entire album.
too true dood. the tsunami these days don't know up from down when it comes to sound. +1
It’s so much easier to do it now
Because was Not only one good Song in a record
I listenned to that album for the first time last week and it blew my mind beyond belief.
Get in line.
WORK OF GENIUS
I count the minutes, and the seconds too! I miss these guys!
Lovely that so many people know what a great song this is - words, vocals - sheer perfection! That's P Sprout - thanks guys!
What a tune!
Goose bumps! I am back at university in the late 1980s. Discovering Prefab Sprout. Discovering how to live away from Mum and Dad. Discovering girls I really wanted to hook up with - and now, in retrospect, I'm glad I didn't. :-) Thanks for uploading.
That second voice from Wendi Smith , wowza. so beautiful.
The best sophisti-pop albums of all time:
1. Prefab Sprout - Steve McQueen (1985)
2. Roxy Music - Avalon (1982)
perfection
Delicius!!!!!! What music !!!!! British British !!!!! Always them!!!!!!
One of the best songs ever written

What a wonderful song. First time I've heard it for a long time. Got quite emotional. I was, for a moment, 19 again and right back in my little flat in Victoria. This album is so good. At the time it was of a small collection I had which included Songs to Remember by ScrittiPolitti, Speaking in Tongues by Talking Heads and the titular Suzanne Vega. Happy sad days,
Love Prefab Sprout...beyond words.
Steve McQueen is a fantastic album, which surprised me because I loved 'Swoon'. Paddy and the band are much missed lately. Bonny and Hallelujah are my fave tracks on this album. Good idea to turn the lights off!
This is one of those tunes when I ear it; feel a mix between being in love but hurt and at the same time full with hope.
This is one of the cathyest and vibrant sonds ever written , the moment Thomas Dolby comes in with his electric panflute is awesome
only just heard this song after all these years . why was it not a bigger hit ffs !? what a song
A Bonny brilliant song.
Cet album est une merveille et ce groupe est fabuleux sûrement l un des plus sous sous-estimé malheureusement ❤

Neil & Martin are showing real 'restraint' locking in beautifully together allowing the melody to soar

I love this so much I could cry..
Art Nouveau I’m 39 year old man and I feel the same.
V8AmericanMuscleCar
Well I’m a 47 year old man so it looks like age makes no difference.
Prefab Sprout’s music has an ability to evoke feelings of melancholy and nostalgia.
Locked eyes with Wendy Sheffield Leadmill circa 82. I can still feel that in my bones
Pure gold. Their best song IMO.
still love this song and prefab sprout
What a fantastic song ! Good lyrics real good instrumentals
Thomas Dolby's production work is brilliant.
My dad used to have this cd, i've spend years laughing at the band's name (sounds funny for a french kid), one day i decided to listen it, man what a shock... only killer tunes
Incredible song. A 10. When a band can do this....it's so rare to feel like this, to feel so much, to want more. This song has such swing and build....a lovely, explosive potential. Jazzy, pop perfection. Vocals are just so great. Guitar work. Crazy good music.
