- Snipping Tool is a Microsoft Windows screenshot tool included in Windows 10. It can take still screenshots known as snips of an open window, rectangular areas, a free-form area, or the entire screen. Snips can then be annotated using a mouse or a tablet, stored as an image file (PNG, GIF, or JPEG file) or an MHTML file, or e-mailed. Snipping Tool allows for basic image editing of the snapshot, with different colored pens, an eraser, and a highlighter. *Full Screen Snip was not covered as I had personally missed it. This is because Full-screen snip only appears when you click "New" after selecting a mode already. You see the usual transparent white screen. To select full-screen snip click again on the arrow near "mode" and you should be able to select Full-screen mode.

When you save a Snip you have the ability to save it as PNG, GIF, or JPEG and a MHTML file. By default Snips are saved as PNG. In this video all snips were saved as PNG fyi.

Yeah, 11 is so crippled and has so many fewer usability features (such as inexplicably no large calendar visible when you click the time and no 'always show text' and small icons option for the tasbar !). Also, with my very low vision, those tiny copy/cut/paste/rename icons on the the right click menu are impossible to see since they now have no text.
There are countless other instances in 11 where designers (the same morons who designed 8) discard usability and decent UX in favor of aesthetics. Microsoft never seems to learn the lesson that PEOPLE not just artists use Windows!

instead of copying from file explorer and pasting onto desktop you can just right click from file location and click send to>Desktop(create shortcut)
Hi Websplaining. Nice video. I am using the version of the snipping tool that I assume came as part of Widows 10. The interface is a bit different than what you show here (which I assume is "Snipping Tool" from the Windows Store?
Anyways, I wonder of you can answer a question about the tool I am using? I start it by either right clicking on the screen, which pops up a dailogue that has TAKE SCREENSHOT in it, and select that. (Or I can press the WINDOWS KEY+SHIFT+S which pops up a shape selection menu).
So, I can sometimes start snipping on my visible screen, and pull the snipping box down to where it scrolls the page, extending the snipped area past the current on screen images. (Sometimes this won't work, which I cannot yet understand why. It seems to work differently on Facebook, depending on if I have a pop up or not). Maybe you know why?
So, once I select the snipped area, I can use CTRL+C to execute the COPY to clipboard, instead of hitting the COPY BUTTON, which is great. But, there is also a DOWNLOAD button, which downloads the selected image to a file in my DOWNLOADS folder. Is there a shortcut key for DOWNLOAD, like there is for COPY?
Lastly, I was looking for an alternative snipping tool, and looked on the Microsoft Store. There are several there, nit not many with high ratings, and, surprising to me, many have less than a dozen reviews! The Microsoft SNIPPING TOOL there has 3,000 reviews, which is sort of low also, I think. Anyways, if I download the Microsoft SNIPPING TOOL - will it overwrite the version I am now using with Windows 10?

How the HEECKK do you change the "default" option to Full screen? When I press Win+Shift+S it waits for me to move my mouse over to full screen and click (lots more work if you're doing lots of screenshots), and now it includes the MOUSE in my screenshot. :(

I had this snipping tool. Now when I open it only opens partially....about 1/4 of the way. The entire bottom is missing.
Hi there. How would I crop a pentagon so that the edges are crisp. When I use the free form tool I can't draw a straight edge.
I would recommend just taking a snip of the object you want to snip if you don't have a steady hand. Then use a tool for precise cropping such as photoshop to crop out the pentagon shape from the screenshot. If you don't have photoshop try GIMP which is open source www.gimp.org

After taking a snip, Left click on "edit with paint 3d" and you will be able to do that there.
Is there a way to do a rolling screen snip?
There are only four snip modes offered by the Snipping Tool.
1. Free-form Snip
2. Rectangular Snip
3. Window Snip
4. Full Screen Snip
Hi how do yOu add a coloured border around a snip e.g framing your snip please?
Yes you can but you will need to left click on the paint 3d icon furthest to the right after taking your snip to export it there and make your snip adjustments.
