It is still fast as fuck. A quarter mile in 12.6 seconds is extremely fast. Dont dis a 4.2 v8

Formidable Legend123 competition for the gallardo? Lol. Audi designed the V10 Engine for the Gallardo and they both share the same chassis. It all comes down to a person’s preference in design when choosing between the two.
The original R8 looks like it was launched in 2014. Impressive how well it ages.

No I didnt want to see this r8's race at all ! Just came to put a bad comment on the mk1 r8 which got the same ugly lcd screen between the gauges as the golf mk4 I got when I was younger. Really shameful on an audi to find lower quality things like this!

Lmx is a beautiful car to own. Interior is superb and the matt/silk carbon adds to it well. Used to be 11 in uk i believe, but two went to HK. Doubt i will ever sell it.

Well spotted the Last two R8’s from 3:02 weren’t warmed up properly, coolant temps weren’t up so more than likely oil temps were even lower!
Gotze9 out of all the people, carwow should know better than to redline a cold engine
maybe something is wrong with the thermostat, because it's hard to believe that they would drive them out to the airstrip and the engine wouldnt already be warmed up

121bham I can’t comment on reliability or maintenance (I’ve never even driven one, let alone worked on or owned one!) but I disagree with your comment. HowManyLeft indicate that there are only 114 coupe V8s left in the UK (in 2018) but thousands of V10s. The recipe for classic car status is (usually) to do with originality and rarity, which, in my opinion, puts the original V8 way ahead of anything that has come since.
I'll take the V8 manual all day. 👌

You wouldn't need a lotto win to own one. In the UK a decent 08' are down to around 30k.

@@MementoMori-xx5qo It's a similar answer I've given earlier, if one can own an R8 then surely one can afford the reasonable insurance cover. In the UK can get fully covered for less than 2K.
That white GT Spyder, it never got any better than that
R8 V8 owner here: few things I would point out. For sure v10 beats the v8, but the v8 was not used to its full potential in this video.
The Engine should rev up to 8.2K when the engine is warm enough, if not, it's limiting you to 7K, you can clearly see in this video Matt hits the rev limiter at 7K and stops accelerating. All the V8 power actually comes at 7k to all the way up to 8.2K. I can launch mine to 100km/h in 3.8 sec, this car did like 4.8sec-5.0 because of the rev limiter. Super cool to see the difference, but would have love to see its full potential.
Love the manual! The new r8 sadly sounds muted due to new emission standards. Missing the rwd and manual v10 versions.

Thankfully got to drive an original manual R8 V8 once and its a genuinely fast car. Most don't think so but it really is. As Matt said the pick up is strong and it just keeps going. I'd happily have the older R8. Those V10's do sound stunning though. Style wise I don't think anything beats the GT Spyder!

That may have been to do with the driver. If the driver had revved it while in Sport Mode or in Dynamic Mode, it would have sounded the best of the bunch, complete with those renowned crackles.

Actually, like most new Audi’s, when in neural and Stronic you can only rev the cars to 4K rpm. So they wouldn’t of sounded as good as the others which could rev into the high rpm range getting that iconic v10 sing

TheMpamMpam I would say for sure the engine is turned down a little compared to previous runs but i wouldn’t go as far to say “its officially destroyed” the sound.
A lovely generation comparison, I loved it. I also loved rhe exhaust sounds of the first and newest generation cars. The newest though, really turned into art, what a creation, it's just turned into perfection.
All R8 generations together, from 2006 to 2019. Very rare to see.

@Starscream_xxx of course they"re are, and the newer R8 will be quicker in terms of paddle shifting and power, the new one is brutal in both terms, but for me, as stated, open road, manual and V8, in terms od pure joy, will always be in favor than 0.01 sec paddle shift and 600hp+ with V10.

Great video . Love my 17 V10+ , this new Audi DCT transmission is amazing , very fast response to paddle shifters and crazy fast shifts . I've had many cars with manual transmissions before and don't miss them much . Gated transmissions are nice for show cars and regular driving but they suck when it comes to performance driving. It's hard to shit them as fast as regular manual transmissions .

A customer let me take his 2007 Audi R8 manual for a blast after i did some work on it for him, was the most exciting thing I've ever done, first time driving 4wd aswell but so glad it was a manual, a 4.2 V8 with a near straight piped exhaust was absolutely mental and loved every minute of it.
