- Rocker Jon Bon Jovi made a career out of filling stadiums with cheering fans, and now he's using that appeal - and his own financial resources - to help feed the homeless and needy through his JBJ Soul Kitchen restaurants in New Jersey. Tracy Smith talked with Bon Jovi and his wife, Dorothea Hurley, about their efforts, cooking up classic farm-to-table cuisine in a place that also dishes up hope.
JBJ’s most wise decision in life was to marry this wonderful lady, who is beautiful inside and out. She obviously loved him before the fame. They are both so very special! May God bless them & their family always. Thanks for the great music, too!

The decision to live and raise his family in NJ rather than the glamour and shenanigans of LA/Hollywood I am sure has a large part to do with him and his wife remaining grounded. Way to go Jon and Dorothea!

The SOUL KITCHEN concept to assist homeless people & college students is very inspiring. Other entrepreneurs and philanthropists around the country take note.
I was thinking about this restaurant the other day, remembering the story on the news when it first opened, and wondering how it was doing. So happy to know it’s thriving and growing. I think adding one to the Rutgers campus is genius. As a mother of a college sophomore, I relate to his comments about the meal plans, because I’m always worried about if my son getting enough to eat with his current meal plan. While at the same time, thankful we can afford it, and supplement with groceries.
I will look into contributing to their foundation. They are circulating their financial abundance in a manner that is serving the highest good of all. I am so thankful for that, and would like to support that in any way I can.
I just heard recently something on the news about students going to college and not getting enough to eat. Never really thought about it. It makes sense. Getting a college degree or so expensive these days. Nice family. I am thankful for what they do.

The beautiful thing about this concept is that everyone pitches in to contribute. Those who can't pay for meals, work in some capacity to receive them. Everyone eats together. Community forms if even for one meal or work session in the kitchen.People work and eat side by side. Everyone is welcome at the table. And in the kitchen.
There is currently a very different model happening in much of the West coast of the United States where people seek to eliminate all suffering before everyone is given an opportunity to participate or contribute. Those being "helped" begin to self identify as being helpless while those who are in a position to give begin to over-identify as being saviors to the downtrodden. People need skills, encouragement and a hand up.
Every town needs a restaurant like this.

It shows that Jon and his wife are amazing, giving, and both are loving souls to do what they are doing. God Bless you. To give people who may not have a home, jobs, or a place to be you give them a place to eat and be around other people. That's what I call being thankful for. There are many celebrities that do, quietly and without a lot of publicity. I've known about this restaurant for years because I live in a town that's not that far away. I think it's terrific!
