Gardening leave is fully paid. If Man U don’t match our valuation (and I imagine our valuation is actually lower than 20m) and then I am all for him being placed on gardening leave for 2 years. I work in an industry where gardening leave is common place and your definition is basically right. People are placed on gardening leave when knowledge they have could be beneficial to the competitor they are going to. So you place them on gardening leave for a period of time (their notice period in the contract) so they are out of the loop and the information they are privy to is no longer relevant. If I am honest as I said at the start I’d take 20m but I actually think it’s more beneficial for us to have him placed on gardening leave for 2 years. We can get a replacement in and move on but we are delaying the Man U rebuild and also stopping someone with in depth knowledge of our plans from working for a competitor knowing those plans.

How do we prevent him working for Man U while on gardening leave though? Could our owners ask him to still come to office everyday and do some boring tasks just to occupy his attention for the next 2 yrs? Or can they send him on "work assignment" to Saudi for 2 yrs?

Do a Lingard on Manure. We should be prepared to pay Ashworth for doing nothing for 2 years if they aren't willing to stump up the $20m. No point saving a few quid in this instance by being afraid to continue paying him while on gardening leave. Manure disrupted our progress big time, we should disrupt theirs too. Gloves are off - use all tactics imaginable to disrupt their players and staff.
We also need to fight this out in the media. Air our grievance in public and let the court of public opinion weigh in. Manure is going about poaching staff from every other club, we should all unite to give them shit.

Havent seen Newcastle fans so incensed and hysterical since bottling the league in 1995/96.
the facts are that he left a small club for a big club and he did the same when he left Brighton for you guys, the prospects and reality are Newcastle have huge FFP/PSR retractions and very likely you wont get European football either , Manchester United are just a whole new ball game they revenue are 3x more than Newcastle with less restrictions , in europe pretty much and have a huge global pull. Dont see why deluded Newcastle fans cant see that !

It's a master stroke by UTD.
Win or lose they've caused us absolute disruption. Might even to be blamed for our performance against Bournemouth.

Blah, I don't think it's such a big deal, stiff man yoo for every penny, make sure there is an agreement that they leave our targets alone for 2 years, and get a new one in, let ashworth go with a reputation of questionable loyalty
