  • Lee Quarry - Mountain Biking Playground
    Conor and I were meant to be heading to the Lake District to meet up with friends and go for a ride, however due to the need to get up at 5am my body decided against it and well, I slept in, as did Conor (more normal for Conor this though in fairness).
    We decided to visit Lee Quarry to see what the Mountain Biking was like here as had heard some good things and it was a bit of a playground with different parts to section. As it is only a 40 minute drive from my house, we thought why not.
    On arrival it was clear this was a popular place and not just with Mountain Biking, but also with Motor Cross bikes, added some footage in the video.
    Lee Quarry is located near Bacup and was orignally a working Quarry up until the mid 1980's. Parts of the Quarry are classed as a Geological Site of Scientific Interest, there are also 3 sculptures by Mid Pennine Arts and Interpretation. Nice to know, but not here for a history lesson either 😃
    The trails were set up by Lancashire County Council and are free to use which is always a winner. Use the postcode OL13 0BB to get there.
    At first we were not that impressed with it, but as we rode more and more it turned out to be not bad at all, the black run towards the end of my video was certainly the highlight with the steep exposure to our left, one wrong move and you were going for a long tumble!
    My final thoughts, if you live close to this, it is a great location to visit and session whatever skills you need to improve, some of the lines are seriously steep. They have also built a pump track at the lower end of the site.
    The ebike as usual smashed the climbs and in total we rode 8.16 miles and total elevation gain of 1,234ft, I remained in turbo for most the time there and had at least 70% left over.

    You've made an industrial scar on the face of the country a thing of beauty with that footage my friend. I salute you.
    So those motorbikes and quads just have free roam then?

      @ElectricMountainBiker  Před 3 lety +1

      Cheers mate, was really stunning from up above, yeh seem to have free roam. Think there is a bit of animosity with it as well.
      No issue for me as don't go there on a regular basis, but did surprise me when they came up that longer trail.

    The land scape in this area is super rad. The drone shots as always were pretty damn cool and did a great job showcasing the terrain. A few really fun looking sections and features there

      Big climb up, and same way back down cannot go wrong. Appeared safe enough to be on your own tbh, I always prefer to have another rider with me of somewhere I don't know tbh just to be safe.
