- TEDxHISD -- Marina Finley - The importance of "Individuality" (From Saffron to Sapphire - What Color Are You?)
Marina Finley is a student at Lanier Middle School in Houston, Texas, a member of the school's Debate Team, and enjoys public speaking. She supports the mission of "ideas worth spreading" and believes in the power of words.
"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away." This quote is from the book Walden by Henry David Thoreau. Thoreau's words are a challenge. They are a challenge to love yourself as you are, to love others as they are. They are a challenge to rise above the absurd. They are a challenge to change the world through acceptance. In these simple words, Thoreau holds the power to change lives.
Why it is better to be an individual than a conformist, and how an individual can change the world?
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
