I totally agree!!! I taught my daughter the same way!!i told her she is a beautiful powerful soul and and she can do anything with hard work, honesty and God. After graduation she was on Fire!! My daughter in 9 years of now is a Powerful team member as a Marketing Director of one of the Largest Beverage Company in the World!! She is still climbing ❤
Failure is only a stepping stone. Nothing is a failure. It’s a lesson.
So, my whole life is a series of stepping stones... I'm just waiting to fall in the creek... :-(

I loved that my family stayed in the same place all my life. I had no family but my parents, and it is the long standing friendships I have from KINDERGARTEN now for my family later in life. It was my education - (college) and my work life that added to that firm base. So thankful.
That is they I raised my kids; I was also a teacher that had a sign in my classroom that said " you never fail if you tried"' failing or being disappointed is just a bump in the world that teaches us a lesson.

Some of the most rescilient are military kids. As parents they had to accept that daddy and mummy had to move, there was no home town. No same school.
Oh dear God...that is just mean. I was a Military kid and if my parents had that mindset i don't think i'd be alive...My brother and i were literally terrified to move. One of our moves we wouldn't leave the house and when we finally broke the agoraphobia it was because my mom had to go with us to the school on our first day. We were shy, scared, nervous, anxious kids...and now as adults we are living with nervous systems that are in overdrive. We have bodies that are in survival mode...fatigued adrenals, insomnia, worry. Years ago i would have agreed that moving made me resilient..but there are other ways to develop resiliency that don't involve making a child traumatised for life. Dear God and Goddesses...Please get that idea revised. It has become apparent that this unique group is in troubled waters from the traumas of moving and having the rug pulled from underneath. We constantly fear that imprinting of instability of our surroundings on our little and growing brains as adults...it is not a good thing to imprint.
I was an Army brat in the 50's, 60's, and early 70's. Moved all the time, 3 tours in Germany, which we loved. I felt so fortunate to see so many interesting places. Did I get a little anxious sometimes? Yes, but maybe kids were more resilient back then. Wouldn't have traded my childhood for anything!
My husband is a Marine brat. Wants nothing more in his adult life with his kids to put down roots and make a life in one place!

@@seattlegirl2077 its true..i don't know where to call home / or where i'm from. do i pick the state i lived in the longest? or where my relatives are? don't feel a sense of home at all. its sad. ii think it would change my mental health if i had the answer.

We moved every two years growing up, no we weren’t military. My dad would get “transferred” to another state across the country and back. It was awful+++. I moved once when my kids were starting 1st and 4th grade and that’s it. I NEVER wanted them to go thru what we did. I’m still riddled with anxiety around others.

We moved many times during my childhood. We just went where we were taken. As long as we were with our mother everything was ok. No we knew it.
Jenna was a pretty rebelious teen and young adult, but she found her way and survived her youth. I remember stories of the secret service carrying her and her sister out of the clubs in Austin. 😆
I think her weight was also an issue - she was always called the chubby Bush girl.
What else is there to do in Austin??😮

Here is a story, my son moved out for 2 years, then roommates had to move home due to financial issues, my son asked to move back home to save money, I looked at him and said let’s try to work this out where you don’t have to move back. I would rather help him with monthly rent by giving him 2-300 a month then have him move back. For both our sanity. He had grown accustomed to living on his own and the hubs and I also had learned to live on our own after raising three very accomplished sons. As I told him I would never put him on the street, but I would rather help him stay independent to the best we could. We found a rental that he could afford, I paid the deposit and last month rent fee… and well all is well ….😊
I think parents help their kids too much. When I moved out, I moved out with the intention of never moving back. When I lost my job, I found another. I never lived above my means including depending relying on room mates. Adults should be able to navigate their lives through the good and bad without parents bailing them out.

@JD-tn5tb there was a time when we all could do that, but I think putting out 10k to 15k a month for separate apartments is ridiculous.
@@KreativeKonnection - I never said not to help them but paying first and last months rent is a lot and many kids expect to be bailed out and that's why they don't care about saving. My friends that always got help from their parents never saved, even in their thirties and beyond. I bet their parents never had to ask their parents for rent money so why wouldn't they want their own kids to be just as responsible?
@@zxcccccc1 - Where is rent $10,000.00 to 15,000.00 a month? Do you mean 1500 a month? I live in a pretty expensive city and rent in a decent apartment for a single person is about 1300 to 1500 a month. Not saying that's not a lot but it's not $15,000.00 a month. There are also cheaper ones but that is the average.
Growing up, my father was a pastor, and we moved every 5 years. I’ve always said that taught me to be flexible, and willing to take risks. It was never easy, but each move helped me grow.
Did he have to because he offended parishioners ? Most want to stay and cultivate their pastoral work. Why would you give up on an area? Seems to me his ‘tax free’ privileges were running out and he had to ‘run’.
@@jbunboxingstuff2559, that’s what he was taught to do when he went to seminary. As for “tax-free”, we always lived in church-owned homes, so the only taxes we paid - and we did pay them - were income taxes.
There’s a different vibe between pity and empathy. Pity “oh you poor thing”, I think, creates a negative downer as if the person is actually poor, incapable of rebounding, hopeless. Whereas, empathy “I hear you” or “I feel you” creates a connection, so that the person doesn’t feel alone, and feels empowered to keep moving forward.
Did someone die or get divorced? Why is it such a big deal that they are moving to a new place in the same city. I’m sure they will attend the same expensive private school.
I think it’s ok to show your disappointment with your child or for someone else who suffers a setback…Allow them time to process that feeling and THEN MOVE ON.. Not allowing someone to feel bad about something they wanted, even for a few minutes makes their reactions not have merit. It’s ok to feel sad about something. It’s unhealthy to not move on AFTER processing those feelings.
What happens to that child when it becomes an adult and there is no pity in the real world for anyone. Failures in life is perfect as long as you learn from it. Failure is part of near future sucess
Sorry not pulling out my violin to cry for you. My father died when I was 11, and never had the discussion by adults about cancer, what that meant, fears of getting it, etc etc. that was 40 years ago when NO ONE talked about cancer. NO ONE.
Same here I was 12 my mom died she was 29 my whole life has been fear and now I'm 60 in my last chapters. What a wasted life😢
My father died when I was 11 left my mom with five boys to raise resulted in all of us being dysfunctional, not not getting along all of us getting divorces
Not everyone is in a position to be able to move whenever they have a desire to do so. It takes money to make a move! Then we're discussing an author of a book who is addressing kids at Harvard? Have you people lost touch with reality and the majority of us living in the real world?

A lot of people move because of their job, which I assume was the reason she moved when she was young. Her dad probably had to. Right now she is probably moving so that her daughters can go to a different school... Just a guess on my part. Obviously she can afford to move.

Is it pity though? When you say "aw come here, that mustve hurt, let me hold you" let them cry it out AND THEN proceed to tell them that they are a rockstar and will find the next best thing for them (partner, job, opportunity, etc.). My worry is that sidestepping the hard/sad feelings will only encourage toxic positivity instead of letting them process their emotions and then encourage them to go back out there and try again

@judithcovert7594 Ummm No. This is not the case. There is the idea that it makes for 'resilience' etc. etc. on the other hand it makes for nervous, anxious, depressed, moody adults. Those of us military kids end up w./ nervous systems in constant survival mode...so we go through life constantly 'over' aware of everything...it makes us paranoid and observant in an unhealthy way, for example my brother trusts no one...he always thinks they have ulterior motives. & for me...i'm a nervous wreck with anxiety, panic & worry.. NO NO NO ...Military kids are among a huge group now suffering...its a growing data base of studied groups about this.
our school system employs Military resource counselors to help Military children with the issues they may be experiencing especially during deployments.
We got the border issue. The economy is upside down. Violent crime is way up and then we have frivolous stuff like this.

Except that Hoda wasn't adopted. As an adult adopted person, I know firsthand how traumatic adoption is and how that trauma reverberates throughout our lives, particularly during times of change. It's a false equivalency to suggest that Hoda's children are resilient, like she was or Jenna was as children. Adoption is trauma, and parenting should come from this point of view in all things.
But you’re saying one circumstance isn’t the same as another.. so who’s to say your experience would be the same as her kids? In the end, we do what’s best for us and our family. It shouldn’t be on anyone else to judge us.
Exactly....and in the converse situation of a child growing up in an environment that cannot support the children that were born into it, would create trauma too. There is no magic path where children can escape trauma.....
Yes. She is compounding trauma on trauma..and won't see the full effect until the little brains have grown into adults w/ anxiety issues. I'm feeling anxious just writing this from all of my moving in the military. i do not recommend it.
@@kk-fl4pb Most children who do not grow up in their family of origin are relinquished due to financial reasons. If we did more to support keeping families together, we could drastically reduce the number of adoptions and the amount of trauma as a result of adoption.
Both of Hoda’s children were adopted as newborns ,I don’t think Hoda’s girls will be traumatized by the move at all😐

How did jenna get this job. Is she really that good of a journalist.
Well, she was a teacher but, if you remember before she started her official job as Hoda’s Co-Host, she had done been filling in when, Kathy Lee was on book tours and recording albums In Nashville before she officially moved there. But, yes, Jenna has stated she always has had a interest in journalism and took some journalism classes in college! But, many people don’t realize that careers you go to college for don’t always go that way and, so, some people once they get out of college seem to think they can’t do anything else other than what they went to study for! But, some actually do get out and bust their butt and, their life takes on a completely whole other different direction! My daughter went to college for 3 yrs for a medical massage therapist, but, when, she got in college she became less interested in the field do to certain reasons but, still once she got in college she got her a job off campus that she walked to, then,she got into her second year and, she moved off campus and started working 2 jobs, but, she worked for Amazon for a good while, then, she got a secretary job making good money and next thing you know her son has to be in head start and, the next thing you know it was like things had circled around where she got a job teaching for Head Start!
She isn’t a journalist. She is a talk show host😂
She got the job because of her fame. Doesn't matter what education she has or doesn't have. It's who you know, not what you know.
Because of nepotism. She has zero training as an actual journalist or news reporter. Jenna adds absolutely nothing in terms of an interesting perspective to the Today Show.

They were engaged and due to marry in November 2020 but due to Covid that never happened. They split instead.
