    A conventional watch movement is both crazy and brilliant. It's a miracle that such an apparently haphazard arrangement of components can actually work, yet alone keep excellent time. A striking clock movement (s) with going train, striking train and chiming train is even more insane. But it works! Nobody can look at this video and not love watches... Thank you for this! 👍🙂👋

    That's a great presentation and makes understanding how a mechanical movement works fairly easy to understand. Despite watch movement technology being hundreds of years old it is still captivating and genius engineering. Many people are enjoying wearing mechanical watches, even in these digital times, because clearly a mechanical watch has something of a soul. In short it's man's attempt at constructing a beating heart.

Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.

The pallet fork having two stable states (left or right) when torison is applied by the main spring through the train if wheels and that the main spring would maintain its potential energy forever unless something acts on the palet fork (enter the balance wheel).

      Thank you very much for the kind feedback and the addition! 😄 This took around three weeks (full time days) to make, using Blender. I’m sure someone more experienced can do this much quicker, but this took me a ton of time as I don’t do this type of animation very often at all! I also spent quite some time on the sound design 😁
      Edit: I also have to add that it took several days just to render as I have limited computing power here. And I had to render quite often as I kept running into issues or mistakes which meant starting things over :-) As I said - I was not the most efficient with this!

    • @anonimis06

      Different gear sizes for the appropriate ratio of time. Motion Works explained at 7:45

    • @jackroom1261
      @jackroom1261 Před 2 měsíci +2

      The wheel in the centre turns once per hour, so this is used to carry the minute hand. On the dial side a pinion (called cannon pinion) is friction fit to the extended pivot of this centre wheel. The cannon pinion drives another train of wheels called the motion work which provides a 12:1 reduction to the hour wheel which sits over the cannon pinion, the hour wheel carries the hour hand, this way you have an hour and minute hand.
      The cannon pinions tight friction fit to the centre wheel can also slip allowing the hands to turn separately to the main wheel train and therefore the time can be set without affecting the running of the watch.
      The ratios between the wheels and the frequency of the escapement (both of which are related to each other) means the fourth wheel in the train turns once per minute meaning a seconds hand can be fitted straight to the long pivot of this fourth wheel. Equally simply by convenience the centre wheel turns once per hour due to the ratios of the wheels and pinions. When designing a watch the number of teeth on the barrel actually isn’t too critical (it only really effects the power reserve), the most important numbers of teeth are on the centre, third, fourth and escape wheels and pinions, these are partly what dictates the beats per hour of a watch and are why these wheels turn at the speeds they do.
