Taylor stumbled onto a blog written by Ronan's mom where she wrote about the journey from finding out Ronan had cancer to his battle and ultimately him passing from cancer, she was so moved by the story that she wrote this song, a lot of the lyrics are taken directly from the blog and she credited Ronan's mom as a co-writer on the song!
She credited her as a co-writer so she would always receive royalties for the song!! Taylor is the 🐐!

I was just listening to a tiny part of this song and now I'm literally in tears bawling my eyes out what a beautiful song so emotional and sad that poor little boy died of cancer
Just watched an interview with Ronan's parents by Katie Couric...bitter sweet talking about Ronan...and they are now expecting the little brother or sister that Ronan had wanted, Bless them all....and thanks to the platform that Taylor gave them, they're raising a lot of money that might help fight that horrible disease.

With all the Eras Tour hype, I decided to listen to her whole discography - never really being a a huge Taylor fan or knowing her music beyond the radio hits. I got to the Red album, and let me tell you - I turned into an absolute puddle when I got to this one. Music and storytelling that elicits this kind of emotional response is the reason why we do it. It's why fandom is a thing. Despite the fact that it's a sad emotion, despite the fact that I literally wept in my car, I love it. What phenomenal song writing. For background: she pulled the lyrics from a blog written by a mother who lost a child to brain cancer. She gave the mother a song writer credit and the revenue proceeds to cancer charity.
You can just tell she is fighting back tears…. This song tears me up it’s so beautiful
Chase, I tell you I’ve been listening to this song for over a decade and it STILL makes me cry lol I’m literally crying right now hahaha RIP little Ronan, and all the other children lost too young.

Taylor actually helped name her too. They are still close they recently went to her eras concert and are still deciding if they are going to the concert on Ronans birthday.
@@chelcbarnett I didn't know she helped to name her, I know about how they went to the concert in Glendale, I saw it on twitter and read the blog, but somehow it slipped my attention that they're deciding if they'Re gonna go on Ronan's birthday

I was excited to see you react to this song. I have such a strong connection to this song. My son was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and passed away when he was three. It is hard to lose a child, but even harder when they fought so hard. He was my best three years. ❤

Taylor only performed this live twice: once at this fundraiser, and again when her Rep Tour was where the Thompson family lives. Taylor gives them tickets to her shows, and she sang it for them that night. It is hard for her. The song was never put on an album; it was released as a single, with proceeds going to the cancer charity. When Ithaca Holdings (Braun) bought Big Machine, and then sold Taylor's music to Shamrock Holdings (Roy Disney's family) it wasn't clear whether the new owners would continue the arrangement. It was written in the Red era, and is on Red(TV) -- and it still supports cancer research. Being on the album will boost the donation a lot.

This song was about a little boy named Rowan his mother would write daily stories about him and she came across it and took some of the stories that his mother would write about her son and she made it into a song and she put the mother as a co-writer and they use the song for the Rowan Foundation to find a cure for cancer and and when she did the re-recordings of her albums she included this song and her Red album so that she would own all the rights and gave it to Rowan's mother so she can continue to distribute it and use the proceeds to raise money for cancer research
The proceeds to this song go to children's cancer research. Mya has since had a baby, a girl they named Poppy Ronan, Ronan also had twin brothers, older than him.
As a mom, I cry as soon as I hear the first couple of notes when this song starts. Maya is my favorite superhero.

It's about to be Ronans birthday and theres a taylor concert on that day, so we may get another Ronan live. Ronans mum is still deciding if shes going that night.

It's sang from the POV of Ronans mother. These are things the mother wrote in a blog as she went thru this battle. Taylor found the blog and was following her story. Made the mom a co writer and the rest is history.

I know im late, but im a huge fan of taylor and have been for almost a year. This story is about a little boy named Ronan taylor meet him at a event called StandUp2Cancer and she was so attatched. Taylor got to know him very well and when he unfortionally passed, Taylor and Ronans mom wrote this song together 🥺💗
