was just gonna say this, we may hear them speak English but that's just for us English audiences. Any other world would have the characters speak a different language but to make it easier, they made them speak English
Yeah yeah it’s like the Avatar movies(more so in the second, since Jake is now a full-fledged Na’Vi) What we hear in English, the characters are technically speaking in their native language. While we do get a few moments of actual Na’Vi dialogue, a lot of the times the characters are speaking, they are actual speaking Na’Vi.
It may not even be Norse. We don't know when this story takes place, if it even happens in our own world. If it takes place when the books take place, it would be Proto-Germanic.
Cool fact I learned, when Hiccup first places the fake tail on Toothless the animation was inspired by one of the animators cat's who he placed some dupetape on the end of the tail.
A clip of Gift of the Night Fury, the movie where Hiccup first tried to give Toothless a tail that he could fly on his own with, was literally animated over one of the creator’s cat with a piece of tape stuck to its tail. Yes, Toothless is definitely a cat
Given the time and place of the plot setting, and the fact that all of the writing shown is in runes, it would be safe to assume that human characters are actually speaking Old Norse in the story. What they are saying, is merely being portrayed in English for the viewer’s convenience.
@@swordchannelfires to us, but it’s only so we can understand because they speak Norse as you can see with the writing just the film makers didn’t feel the need to go out of there way to make all the stuff Norse so they just made it so they spoke English for us

1. Yes I knew she saved his life that’s like a point made in the story it’s not something you notice if you look hard enough 2. Yeah he can understand people but that’s not meant to be taken literally. If fictional creatures didn’t react to humans talking (like real animals) it just wouldn’t be a w very interesting story and the relationship between animals and people wouldn’t be entertaining 3. Dragons are smart and. Have always understood English in the films and the TV series like when them and yohan where in the sand pit hiccup told toothless to circle back yes it wasn't speaking but a secret language is arguably smarter
All dragons should understand humans if you were to read the books. They speak Dragonese and Hiccup can speak this. Unfortunately there is just so many differences between the films and books 😅
I think toothless fully understands English like actually knows what their saying unlike with dogs where they only understand certain words, tones, body language, sounds or gestures/actions toothless fully understands what their saying as if he himself is a human it’s shown multiple times through the movies and shows.
Here are some things I realized in the movie: Hiccup and Toothless have the same colored eyes, Astrid and the light fury have the same colored eyes, toothless glows blue for the light fury's eye color, so the light fury has to glow toothless's eye color and there's 2 more light fury's in the hidden world (If its a different type of dragon then tell me in the comments please.)
Toothless can't understand English or Norse or any language. He understands sounds that make a word that means something to him. Dogs (in which case he behaves likes) knows certain words. Sit, stay, walk, eat, etc. So 'woods' is a command to Toothless, like a walk with his friend. That's all he knows. But he doesn't know everything Hiccup is saying
We knew Toothless understood English in the first movie, when Astrid apologized to Toothless he immediately heard her and understood, so he made the trip calmer and more peaceful.
Did you know that Toothless was supposed to be way different? He was supposed to be smaller than a Terrible Terror. Hiccup was also supposed to be able to speak the dragon language, called dragonese. Proof: I read the books.

Toothless already understands language.... Well dragons are wise and intelligent creatures....
Yes and also in the books toothless speaks dragonese
@@owl_wc It's also in this universe as well, as dragonese was announced to be one of the only things in rescue riders to be cannon.

As Valka said in HTTYD 2, dragons are intelligent creatures, so it's normal that Toothless understood what Hiccup was talking about.
