Nearly two decades later I still need an expansion pack to play this game
🤣 I know, right?
This comment wins
*bad dum tss*
You don't. You simply need to own a version of it. Be it n64, 3ds, virtual console or the expansion. They question is why you believe you should have a decent game for free. Just buy it once.
The parallels!!!!!!!
This Zelda game still gives me the chills even to this day. For those who have the Expansion Pack, this is definitely a Zelda game you wanna try out.
I love your videos ^^
Everyone going bonkers and I don't blame them. Almost the 25th to play the original n64 quality!
Honestly better to just download an emulator for the n64 and play it there, the emulation for zelda games on actual nintendo consoles is trash, except for wii vc, but then again, that's 10+ years ago
I will definitely give it a try.
The 3ds port is the best version to play with all the improvements over the original....but still a great game to replay none the less
Parts of this game absolutely terrified me as a child, but it was one of the first games that introduced me to a love of gaming. Always loved the music, and coming back over 15 years later and playing it on an emulator it just reinstated my lifelong love of this game. Kafei and Anju questline has to be the single greatest story and quest in the entire zelda series.
Makes me sad so much has changed since. 22 years will turn to 44 years and so on...
I mean, I don't blame you. Out of all the Zelda games, this one is by far the creepiest. Even though it's not a true horror game like the franchises Resident Evil and Five Nights at Freddy's, there are a lot of elements that make the story, settings, characters, and atmosphere creepy. Not to mention that the designs of the Moon and Giants are the ones that terrified me the most when I was little.
However despite all of this, I was able to complete "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" on my Nintendo 64 while at the same time enjoyed this game. Now as an adult, none of those elements scared me anymore like they used to when I was a kid. In fact, I just laugh it off on how silly they look (for example whenever I compare the Moon to an Internet Meme).
🙂 So yes, I strongly agree with you that this (alongside with the Ocarina of Time) is one of my favorite games of all time. Although there is the 3DS remake, I would still recommend the modern audience on completing the N64 original in order to better understand why we love this.
This game embodies the feelings of grief, loss, death, existentialism, etc so well that when I played this as a child, not having felt those feelings, It still resonated with me and through that gave me a whole new experience. Thank you Nintendo for creating this masterpiece
I think you are looking a bit too deeply

Seeing a new trailer for this game... gives me a very strange kind of nostalgia, one that feels new all over again. To those of you who are about to embark on this adventure for the first time: good luck! And remember to learn the Inverted Song of Time as soon as possible xD
I love this game along with the incredible Ocarina of Time. but don't you think it's time the the Big N actually remade these games from the ground up? similar to what Capcom have done with Resident Evil.

@@reubenaringo8513 Yes, that's practically it. It was a game way ahead of it's time.
I’ve played it’s 3ds remaster I enjoyed it a lot
I always have an incredible hard time choosing between Majora’s Mask, Ocarina of Time and The Wind Waker because they’re just complete masterpieces but Majora’s Mask will always hold a special place in my heart! I hope everybody who is new to it will enjoy it as all of us did our first time.
I honestly feel bad for the ones who never got to experience Majora's mask the time it came out
October Halloween night I played this In the year 2000
And before that I played Ocarina of time so so much
So you can imagine the reaction I had when this first came out I was floored!
Wind water is amazing but just had mandatory fetch quests which felt long and boring
Oot is great but it’s not as great as most people say, and some items are extremely hard to find without a guide
Majoras mask took Oot and said “you were good, but I’m better” and just succeeded.
I have played all three and the list is probably
MM in 1st
WW in 2nd
OoT in 3rd
Noooooo ben drowned game
No thanks, I'll stick to emulation.
No thanks, I'll stick to emulation.
That transition from clock tower's theme to the actual song of healing was something i never thought of and NOW want that as one song theme...
So happy Majora's Mask is never forgotten as well as Ocarina of Time AND Link's Awakening. In my opinion, they are most tragic for me. Like the story made me sad a bit.
Same, I almost cried when I heard it. Perfect way to end the trailer, it's magical.
@@quolai5262 wow! Nice it had a profound impact! It really was magical
Majora's Mask will forever be my favorite game of all time, such a masterpiece.
the best zelda. so much content. and actual interaction with npc
Majora's Mask is also my favorite game of all time. Randomizer and Nerrel's HD pack has really revitalized the nostalgia for me.
Same!!!
And the creepiest to
As if this and Ocarina of Time aren’t mine tied. I better make my videos about these games soon enough but what can I say over “experience it yourself.”?
I used to be genuinely terrified of this game when I was little, now that I've beaten it this game is one of my favorite games of all time. The atmosphere is so depressing and I love it, not to mention this game has one of my favorite soundtracks. This just gives me another excuse to pick the game back up again!
New Wave Bossa Nova will forever be a banger
I literally had to mute the tv and cover my eyes when taking masks off lol it was the most horrifying thing to kid me
Same. A friend of mine who’s a huge Zelda fan but never played the n64 titles asked me about it. „Depressing but in the best way possible“ is how I describe the games
i much prefer the original n64 version over the 3ds remake, the 3ds has the worlds easiest first boss never needing the dungeon item while the last dungeon boss is bloody difficult i will take n64 over 3ds remake any day, im so glad i own the og n64 majoras mask and ocarina of time if both came to switch id probably be more likely to consider the expansion pass as well just to be able to play those specific versions of the games on my switch
@@Leonardo-cw1dd I actually found a copy of the n64 version of MM because I thought you 3ds version was pretty damn easy in some aspects. I do agree that the n64 version is superior, and the release of this on the expansion pass is making me consider getting it, so I can play this and the original OoT
I'll say it once and ill say it again. Majoras Mask is a timeless classic that at its core is deeply philosophical, emotional and it delves into the complexity of humanity and how that relates to crisis, dread and grief. It is a must play.
Its one of my favorites, i love the 64 version, but id love to see a remaster of Ocarina and Majora on switch, but since they both got remade on 3DS its highly unlikely :/

what a joke. this game stinks
On paper I love Majora's Mask's premise and tone a lot more than Ocarina of Time, the opening and the introduction to the Happy Mask Salesman and Clock Town was fantastic. But I would be lying if I said I enjoyed Majora's Mask better. The world design, level design, pacing, characters in Ocarina of Time were so excellent it won it over for me.
The song of healing is just so heartwarming and soothing whenever I hear it. I'm glad it plays such a big role in the game.
Song of healing is such a great song
It's a very healing song.

Same.
You can always just emulate it
This game is simply a masterpiece, its one of the most atmospheric games ive ever played and this is 23 years old as well though im currently playing the 3d version though I did play a decent chunk of og one
One of the most creative and most unique games ever made. The story, the time cycle mechanic, the side quests, the temples, the use of masks, most items having a purpose, and one of the coolest finales ever. Truly a masterpiece and my favorite Zelda game hands down.
Only 4 temples was kind of BS though.
@@Gunplabro considering they're actually larger than most OoT temples, and the large amount of side content and mini dungeons kinda of makes up for it
@@Gunplabro The team was challenged to come up with a new Zelda game in 1 year after Ocarina of Time released. Hence why there was a lot of re-used assets etc. Pretty impressive what they came up with. Still a great game I still play to this day.
I love this game so much. But most of the masks are useless though
@@Gunplabro to be fair, so did Breath of the Wild. 5 if you count Hyrule Castle and 5 if you count the Minds of the Moon children in MM. The majority of the content of both games is outside of the temples though.
Song of healing always hitting hard. My favorite Zelda game of all time.
That's what got me into it. I saw some post on Instagram that had the song playing and I got hit by a wave of nostalgia for something I hadn't even experienced yet. I wanted to have every part of those two 64 games in my core memories, so I just straight up bought the original 2 cartridges. It was a bit of a grind, but I woke up excited every day to discover something new in those surprisingly tricky dungeons, or do some kind of side quest to further the character development. These games were ahead of their time, and I'm glad I went backwards after playing Breath of the Wild as my first Zelda because they just give you an experience no other game can despite being the FIRST 3D Zelda games

Does anyone happen to know the exact ver for this? I love this exact ver
This is really the only old Zelda game that didn’t age miserably, because it’s so-so controls were carried so hard by the timeless story, easily the best story of any Zelda game.

This has to be the most unique and creative Zelda game ever made period.
It was made in 1 year

Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland tho, a game that cannot be comprehended by mere mortals
The thing i love about this game, is that it grows on me more as time passes. The plot of this game is simple first, but then it goes deeper and deeper as you progress. The task given to the hero of time is a hopeless one. A fierce power, able to destroy the world as we know it by sheer insanity and black magic combined. The only advantage the Hero of time has, is bending the passing time to his will. But as he does rewind the passing time, everything he have worked for bends back. There is so much hoplelessness in this game that it's depressing. The atmosphere in this game filled with it's characters beliving and admitting they are going to die, is something my ten year old soul couldn't comprehend at that time. Time passes, leading to your doom. And there's nothing that you and i can do about it.
They don't make them like they used to.
I'm so excited to play this game again. This is the best Zelda story ever, at least to me. The plot of this game is made of all the different opinions, expectations, fears and hopes regarding death and regret that the people of Termina have... boy that's heavy. This game is layered, sad, and yet so hopeful. This game was such a confusing and wonderful experience to me as a kid, and now as a 30 year old dude about to experience it all over again, all I can say is... Thank you Nintendo! Beautiful storytelling defined our childhood, and this game is such an odd, cherished memory to me. Here we go again.
I don't have the expansion pack, but I'm glad that more people will be able to experience this game. Majora's Mask is an experience and I hope all the new players enjoy this game as much as I do.

I think thats why Undertale became hype too. Some indie dude tapped into that same atmosphere as majoras mask. the gameplay isn't anywhere near the same but the story is tight, and its still the closest thing we have. I can't think of any other games that have this same twisted themes and loveable world.
Glad you played the n64 version. If you had played the 3ds remake, it would have been a radically different experience. You might have ended up hating it. Lol. Cheers~ keep on gaming!

If you can, I highly recommend completing this again (the N64 original, not the 3DS remake) in order to complete your childhood.
I played both OoT and MM on 3DS, more than 200 hours in total (thanks 100 skulltulas). As for the creepy/scary part... it is scary in the eyes of a child. The music, the quirky NPCs, and the entire atmosphere make everything unsettling for a small stupid child brain, now I find all this really fascinating.
I've played this game more times than I can remember and I was already planning on replaying the game this year, but holy crap. Hearing the tower interior theme slowly shift into the song of healing on piano just broke something inside of me. While maybe not a perfect game, my god does it come close, and I don't have any doubt when I say there's not another game I've played that has the same emotional resonance with me than majora's mask.
You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?
Hello nuclear ep sil on nice comment
what a beautiful soundtrack this game has. an absolute gem.
Anyone else noticed the game NOW got the higher ESRB rating it quite honestly deserved? Now rated T instead of E?
I've only played the 3ds version, and I absolutely loved it. I'm really excited to play the original version of this masterpiece
Its basically the same game with better graphics (3DS)
@@Togemon5 the 3ds has worse controls and mecanics
Apparently the 3ds version is really bad control wise. Check out nerrels video for an in depth explanation
@@triggeredgrimm6487 I dont think he cares about speedrunning it
@@shmalts1 I mean I played on the 3DS and while the controls maybe could have been a bit better I didn't think it was that bad
I remember being freaked out when I first played this game, simply because I didn't know how to get past the three day cycle.
I was like four, so don't blame me.
After my dad helped me, we both played many Zelda games together, and that's how my love for Nintendo first developed.
I had a similar experience 15+ years ago as a kid watching my older brother play Majora’s Mask. I tried to play the game myself and I just remember aimlessly wandering around the southern swamp because I couldn’t figure out where to go 😂
Im so excited to finally be able to play this legendary game for myself!
One tip: Learn the inverted song of time as soon as possible and use the "bank" to save your money.
What a masterpiece of a game
Simply one of the best if not the *best* in the franchise, still holds to this very day.
I'm so excited to see what new people finally think of this game. Truly a masterpiece and my favorite Zelda title!
Sadly most people quit before they get into it, probably because it's not obvious what you need to do most of the time
@@Blernster i dedicate enough time to majoras mask and have become my favorite game of all time . first because i play ocarina of time and I have a pretty good idea what to do in majoras mask and second because I didn't have other games to play. Is hard to think now a days they think of it like us. its a game from another time.
I got gifted the DS version for Christmas, and I just started playing recently. And like George said, it's quite confusing at times cause I'm not too sure where to go. But i think the game is very creative in both it's story and gameplay. It does takes a bit of patience though
many people could try out the 3DS version back in 2015.
Now that I think about that, I suddenly feel very old... I mean... 2015 seems like yesterday but it was 7 years ago...
This is only the sixth port of the game, it's not been impossible to get XD
Does anybody know what the exact track ver of song of healing this is?
I remember the time when I was able to buy this game for 10€ on my wii in 2007.
Without any expansion packs, or subscription services, I could buy an old game without any BS, the technology WAS there and its STILL here.
The only thing that truly comes to my mind when I see this trailer is:
"You've met with a terrible fate - haven't you?"
I remember replaying this games over and over for several years, finding and re-finding almost every secret... I still have the original gold cartridge version that my grandpa gave me after I became old enough to play (this was like 2009 when I was allowed to play)
Still the best 3D Zelda in my opinion. The atmosphere, tone, and feeling of pure dread is executed superbly. It shocks me to this day how many dark themes they put into this game. If you haven't played it I highly recommend it.
Zeldread? ;)
This game definitely has the most mysterious and spooky atmosphere amongst the series!
But I feel it can be overwhelming to new Zelda players…
BotW overtook MM for me, but Majora's Mask is still excellent and the theme and story are my favorite (I hope they return to the darker atmosphere for BotW2)
The legend of zelda: Dread
I prefer ocarina of time
Quem aqui curte um zelda? Jogo muito nostalgico fez parte da minha infancia
Basicamente todo mundo que assistiu esse vídeo
@@the_flipside_world não, minha irmã não sabe o que é zelda e assistiu '-'
Já zerou?
hearing that beautiful soundtrack gives me the chills😫
This game will ALWAYS be my fave. It helped me through my mom's passing as a kid. It helped me understand the grief and the anger and pain I felt and I accepted her death. It's my top fave Zelda game. ❤ Trailer was soo good!
Same
Same (Dad’s passing)
@@ekko_the_gekko7452 aww... its heart breaking and I'm happy this game came out when it did. I hope it can help others as well with the release again ❤ I hope you're well!
@@gamer2101 aww my heart hurts for you too. I'm glad we had this game to help us through it 🧡
E.
Oh hey look, the best Zelda game! 🌚
Nintendo, this is literally the only title I care about on your entire "Switch Virtual Console" service. Please do it justice.
the song of healing man... gets me every time
This is actually my favorite Zelda game of all time, I’m so happy it’s getting ported to the switch.
It happens to be my favorite zelda game as well
Ported?
It's not really ported, just emulated. But have fun with it. :)
Ported?
@@deatsbybre7162 basically putting a game that's on a different console to a newer one. this applies to other consoles like Playstation, Xbox, Ds, 3ds, Wii U, Wii. so on so forth. For example, Xenoblade Chronicles 1 got ported over the 3ds. However Xenoblade Chronicles 1 DE is not a port but a remaster.
I wish more Zelda games were as weird and sinister as this masterpiece. 😍😍😍😍😍
Have you played many Zelda games? They're all weird in their own special way. Sinister on the other hand... MM definitely has the others beat in that category. Fantastic game!
Ahem*, twilight princess and phantom hourlass are also very dark games, people just have MM at to much high rate because it's shorter and easier to complete
There’s the new Zelda game, Twilight Princess, Ocarina of Time, Four Swords Adventures (if that counts), and Skyward Sword. That’s all the sinister games I can think of.
@@pataro7734 its not easier.. Twilight Princess was easier since you dont have to go back in time and you do not feel pressured because you have 3 days to do everything but I guess that's just my opinion.
@@pataro7734 Twilight Princess wasn’t even that dark. Majora’s Mask IS dark, Twilight Princess was simply trying to be dark for the sake of being dark.
played the 3ds version many years ago and loved it. so excited to play this and expierence it in its original n64 form!
I got so excited just by watching this, I definitivelly will play this masterpiece again
This needs a HD Remake for the Switch. One of my favourite games of all time.
All they have to do is port the 3ds version by making the controls fit the pro controller then boom easy port.
The fan made trailer for a wii u version would be perfect
It really does
I doubt they'll do it since they released it on 3ds. I don't think they'd cannibalize their subscription service by releasing a better version when the paid subscription service is already turds.
Tbh I think the og 64 graphics makes it feel more creepy in a way like it’s some haunted game from the past
This game deals with death in a way I've never seen before, not by resurrecting the dead, but by helping the dead to let go of their regrets and peacefully move onto the afterlife. Absolutely otherworldy, this is the best Zelda game ever imo.
If you like those themes in this game, I’d highly recommend Spiritfarer!
Still one of my All Time Favorite Games.
One of the greatest games ever made enough said
When the title logo slowly comes into view, it gives me chills. Zelda title logos always look so crisp and elegant.
This will always be the best Zelda game to me, hands down. The message and atmosphere are so uniquely different compared to every other Zelda game, and that’s what makes it better than the rest to me. Yes, even botw.
For sure
Botw wasn't incredible, it was on par with other Zelda games
@@LZMP60 And other games were incredible too.
This game is probably the closest to real horror. Its so accessible and yet everything about it is just eerie or unsettling. The fact that it is not in your face horror is absolutely terrifying
@@LZMP60 well they're literally all incredible
This game is eerie, it can often be terrifying, it's exhilarating, and it's emotional all at once. This is a Zelda game I can replay an endless number of times.
Aww! Yeah! I will always love the land of Termina, its citizens, it's spooky and eerie, wondrous and emotional too! ^_^ I've only played through 'Majora's Mask' once, but I do hope to play it again someday! :D And the Hero of Time is my most favorite reincarnation of Link ever! :D
I'm loving these new trailers for retro games
"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"
Still haunts me to this day.
Majora's Mask has always, and forever will be, a massive part of my childhood. I've been looking forward to this day since 2017 and as soon as I saw the release date, I fangirl screamed so loud!
Why did you wait for it to be released?
You could've just played on PC the entire time.
I rememember when i played it for the first time in the far 2018 when i was a kid. I love videogames since then. Pure childhood.
Not only is this my favorite game in The Legend of Zelda series, but my second favorite game of all time period.
The music in this game is just as haunting as the theme itself. As my first LoZ to feel like a truly brazen and mature adventure, I'm excited to play it again.
Majora's Mask has always had the best story, lore, sidequests, and atmosphere of the series to me. Although I prefer Wind Waker overall, this is an absolute must play for anyone looking to further their Zelda horizons. Brilliant how Nintendo managed to theme and deliver on each and every one of its messages properly in a game with as limited as a development timeline of around ONE YEAR, it still confounds me.
Sometimes limitations can be a driving factor in creativity. They had to make do with so many existing assets so they had no choice but to come up with clever ways to re-use them, new mechanics. I'm a little worried that BotW2's extended development time means that it isn't leaning into that same limitation-driven space.
they were able to do a lot in one year because they already had the engine, it was just adding stuff at that point.
@@cabba_5950 at the time they weren't so many 3d games to take inspiration from. ocarina of time change everything and they have to do a sequel good enough to be compared to ocarina. It is so much so that the developers had nightmares with the game due to the pressure and theme of the game.
The Music of Zelda MM is just amazing!
Came to realize the camera sometimes lower in parts compared to the original
Massively excited about playing this classic again!
One of the best in the series IMO and was very anxiety inducing for me as a kid xD. Finishing a temple while the world is rumbling is....something else O_o.
I love this game because its challenging i had fun with master quest too in the 3ds version of OOT.
Something about Nintendo putting out new commercials for old games like this is so nostalgic and comforting...
