Winter RV Travel Day Heading Further North | Negative Temps & Frozen Water Lines | Full-Time RV Life

  • Our journey of leaving California for Idaho continues as we head further north in our RV during the winter months. We leave a very cold overnight RV park stay in Trementon, Utah and head to Idaho Falls, Idaho. We experience our first negative temps in the RV and our first time having our water lines freeze. Although having no running water is a challenge, especially during the winter, we are thankful we stayed plenty warm inside the RV. We're excited to finally enter Idaho even though we still have a ways to go, needing to pass through Montana before we can get to our new home base in north Idaho. We hope you enjoy following along on our journey! Thank you for watching!

    We know what that's like! We've found that our heat pump and electric space heaters do a good job keeping us warm when it's around 30 degrees F or warmer, but colder temps require us to run the furnace. It costs a LOT more to run the furnace due to the cost of propane, but it's really the only way to keep the underbelly warm enough to avoid freezing. Some might not like it, but we had to run our furnace (set at 50 degrees F) to keep everything warm enough even when we driving down the road. This used a lot of propane, but freezing pipes can cause fittings to rupture and can be a huge pain to fix.

      Yea we thought about doing that however when our slides are in, they cover all of the floor vents. We turned off our tank heater when driving because we didn’t realize that it runs off the batteries and can be left on. Have had no issues since we started leaving it on. Thank you for watching and God Bless!

      @@Chasingtodaysdream You should be getting a little power when the fifth wheel is connected to your truck, maybe a few amps, but the tank heaters will still likely draw significant power from your batteries. Do you have lithium or lead acid batteries?

      @@Chasingtodaysdream the camper in the video I just bought Valentines day. 35ft with super slide, and king suite slide. My old camper was 26ft, no slides. I am headed to AZ as soon as the 20th of April. It still gets cold here overnight, stay warm. 🙏

    In the future if you decide to hold onto this camper get yourself Heat Pads for your tanks. Our camper has heated under belly through the furnace and heated pads which I installed. TIP: have RV antifreeze with you and shoot some down into your gray water and black tank “ Pour As You Go” the heated tank pads are go while we’re on the road and you have liquids down there that are not freezing up, running off your 12V; absolutely beautiful scenery as you entered Idaho. You have an OutDoors RV I’m thinking they would have heated underbelly and heat pads also?

    • @Chasingtodaysdream
      @Chasingtodaysdream  Před měsícem +1

      Hi Jesse, we do actually have a heated underbelly and tank heat pads however another mistake we made as RV newbies is that we turned off the tank pads when driving, not knowing that they are 12v and could have ran off of our trailer batteries. Definitely won’t do that again lol

    Tip on the slide-outs … Seems you have Swhintech Slides.
    if so be sure to hold switch to open and close 5 seconds after you finish closing or opening.
    What happens they get out of Sync from, opening or closing half way for what ever reason. And be sure you know where the control box is for the slide-outs in-case you need to reboot the system. And eventually you will. God Bless

    Also your furnace is why your windows frost.

    You have one chance to thaw out, skirt the north side with snow, and run down the road with the heat on!! Video says 3 day ago, and that is when you upload your video. Looks like Driggs, Idaho.

    I noticed that you still had your seven way plugged in while you were conntecting your 50amp.I did that once and short circuit, my trailer brakes. now I just unhook my seven way if I’m just gonna keep it connected overnight while I hook to the 50 amp.

    I hope that the frozen water line problem is an easy fix for you. We have spent plenty of time in Idaho over the years, but we have never been to Idaho Falls, that is a place we are very interested in checking out for ourselves maybe this summer.
