Originally released on 4th August 1964, the band's 3rd single You Really Got Me went to number 1 on the UK singles chart and later in the year to number 7 in the US charts. The track is taken from the Kinks self-titled album "Kinks" released in the same year, which also features tracks including All Day And All Of The Night.
Lyrics:

You got me so I don't know what I'm doin'

For 1964 this was wayyy ahead of its time
i thought this was a 90's song when i first heard it lol
Sound so good and I was born in 75 this rhythm is younger than me now...forever young ..Forever The Kinks
This song would be good for an IHOP commercial!
@@jeromedavis8575 ....that's so random lol
@@tguthrie6 so did I. This goes to show that songs like this last forever!
This song was so revolutionary when it was first broadcast on the radio. Nothing like it was ever heard before. The Kinks were so much edgier than the other groups of that day. They remain a very important rock group in the history of music!
They were banned from the US for years because they refused to change the lyrics of Lola. That and union issues…
@@chipsterb4946 Not true. They were banned in late 1965 for union issues relating to showing up late for shows, on stage fights and Ray reportedly clocking a reporter. The ban was lifted in 1970 and the Kinks came back to the charts with LOLA and Apeman from the Lola Vs Powerman lp!
@@theglavinehow Rock and Roll of them lol.
💯 agree!
They had no distortion So they Poked Holes in the Amps
It was truly one of the best songs of 1964 when it came out.
Es ist der beste !
Fun fact: this iconic guitar riff was originally played on the saxophone, it was "jazzy" before they decided to play it on fuzz guitar and it totally changed everything for the world of rock 'n roll!

Ikr, and we don't have to pay for it!! (Except for phones and subscriptions, but its cheaper than buying 10 albums and having to change each time we want to listen to a diffrent artist!)
@@emmaryartistry2874 You should be buying albums anyway. And listening to them fully, instead of jumping from artist to artist after every song. Thats the proper listening experience, its much richer, and its how most artists meant their music to be heard. An album as a single musical statement.
The Kinks, tragically underrated imo
wierd name but its the 60s so it was something different back then propably (i really hope so)
@@user-ck1jy7jm9n No lol when they picked out the name it was done as a subtle sexual innuendo, here is an anecdote from the manager "When we went to [the band members] with the name, they were ... absolutely horrified. They said, 'We're not going to be called kinky!'"
The ultimate 60's song for 2024❤
The Kinks were ahead of their time in so many ways.

It's fun to introduce offspring to the great music of the 60s. The Kinks do it up right!
Lol
Saw them in the early eighties. Give the people what they want ' tour.. Good band.. ' This 'Music doesn't grow old..
Love that story
My 20 year old children tell me they have no concept of the sequential history of pop music
I suppose music history takes a lot of work. But it’s interesting when oldies stations play music that’s 60 years old all the time
I don’t remember mainstream radio constantly playing the hits of the 1920s when I grew up in the 80s
TV did play 1930s WB cartoons though

Far out, man!
How did England produce so many great bands in the 60s?
And we're lucky to be able to listen to them now, mate. Kinks >>Beatles imo.
Anon San not only in 60 ´s mate .. pink floyd , beatles , ledezeppelin , queen , the who, kinks, clash ,yes, fletwood mack, oasis , blur , rolling stones etc etc etc
Anon San Because they were all listening to the good stuff - The BLUES. They took that old African American music and made it into something of their own.
Anon San Imho it's because they had to listen to the American music and reggae etc. and work out how to do something similar themselves, without a record label pr system to shoehorn them into a mould. Made them inventive - took a razor blade to their speakers to get the rough sound etc. I think Britain and Ireland really had the best rock and roll for this reason - the bands were so individual!
Peter Still the Brits did not have to listen to the Americans. They developed their own sounds. America was not the example to follow.
