I love how this movie transitions from a documentary format into an action film. It does it so well you barely notice the change until the shooting starts.

That transition was seamless! It really adds depth to the movie.

absolutely no reason at all why this movie doesnt have a part 2 its honestly annoying that after 15 years we might not get to see how this ended

I would definitely watch a sequel, but, I do feel we need more of these stand-alone stories. Studios are too obsessed with creating franchises. I like that Christopher Johnson just disappears into space and we're left wondering what happens next.

Still wondering how CGI from two decades ago is looking better than most stuff that's come out this decade?

Such a great film it’s crazy the low budget it had and amazing of a job they did . And such a sad ending since they never did another . Maybe one day there will be a Distinct 10

I always felt like this film was apologist propaganda for bystanders of the Apartheid Regime. Am I really supposed to accept this man who behaved so despicably at the beginning as the protagonist? Once the tables have been turned is he supposed to be relatable? In the USA we would never do any kind of Truth and Reconciliation Commission like in South Africa, so I guess it's just a matter of perspective. The SFX are pretty good though.

A "protagonist" isn't a good guy, but rather the character who is instrumental to the story. While oftentimes the protagonist in the story is portrayed as a "good guy", that isn't necessarily the case. In classical literature and stories they often filled that sort of role, but stories can be far more complex, and the closer a story is to haveing a realistic protagonist character, the less that protagonist will be "the good guy".
Wikus isn't designed to be a "relatable good guy" sort of character for the story, he is simply the pivotal character the story revolves around. He was a shitbag serving an oppressive regime whom after he was effected by the alien substance and became a victim of the own regime he served, thus forcing him to grow as a character, with nothing really noble about it as it was ultimately triggerd by self-interest. He isn't nor was he ever designed to be the sort of "noble good guy" sort of role you see in more simple stories. The story is designed to trigger people to be empathetic to the aliens and the position they were put in by humans... in effect the humans are the bad guys of this story.
