    Unlike Angel, Spike willingly had his soul restored through "The Demon Trials". The Demon who oversaw his trials called himself "Lloyd", possibly an agent for the Senior Partners, because he spoke in plural. Spike is unique in that he CHOSE his hero path, as opposed to Angel who was punished.

      Yes Angel was cursed with a soul to live in eternal torment. Spike willingly chose torment to earn back his soul. So Spike could be happy and live more or less as a human (apart from going out in the sunlight) while Angel couldn't because he'd lose his soul if he experienced true happiness. Angelus would never have fought to get his own soul back, but Spike did.
      Then again, Spike never would have if he hadn't spent a couple years unable to be a vampire because of the chip holding him back allowing him to be harmless and allowed him to fall in love with Buffy. In the end Spike was way too good for her and he deserved better.

I assume this was to say anyone could be a potential slayer but it does stick out in retrospect when we know how the 1st slayer came to be.

    • @grantpflum6844
      @grantpflum6844 Před 2 lety +16

      @@ateam404 Not quite. Your missing a VERY big point from the cannon. When a slayer dies the next one is chosen from the line of potentials, yes, but ALSO by GEOGRAPHY! Giles canonically confirms in the very first season of Buffy that the NEWEST slayer is ALWAYS chosen by her proximity to what is considered to be the next highest threat by the world itself. Its actually why Buffy was chosen despite not being from any of the watched line of potentials. She WAS a
      potential, but her bloodline made the chances of her inheriting vanishingly small. Her proximity to Lothas AND an active hellmouth pretty much shit all over those odds and turned it into an all hands on deck situation. So yes, it is influenced by genes but while the original spell was in place the next slayer was always chosen by need, which as the Milena, passed and the number of decendants increased, made keeping track of the potentials and predicting the next chosen one that much harder. As for Sineya's appearance, well that is hardly a factor. I invite you to look up the genetic principal of Mitochondrial Eve. About around 30.000 years ago, around Sineays's time, the human population dropped to about 3000-10,000 people. Its why nearly EVERYONE today is related if you go back far enough and probably why you find slayers in EVERY culture and ethnicity.

      @CharismaSpencer Před 2 lety +7

      @@grantpflum6844 It's been made clear that the Slayer line is completely random, it is not inherited. Can't remember where, but there was a vampire mythology that had vampires survive decapitation, but it was the most effective way to stop them just because of the fact that they would be just a living head. They were as vulnerable to sunlight as a corpse in decomposition would be, nothing could really kill them, but they could become weak from starvation, sunlight and so on. It was really interesting, most of the usual weaknesses were fabricated just so they could prove that they weren't vampires, but they were just a living corpse vulnerable to everything that a regular undead would be. It's a shame that I can't remember, but I'll make an effort and return is something crosses my mind.

    Okay it's a huge Bobby fan I want to point out that technically the Slayer line is genetic. It's just not directly inheritable. As each individual potential we see in The Buffy universe is a distant descendant of the first Slayer. And only her extended bloodline has the ability to become slayers and only a specific part of the ritual that created the first Slayer makes its letter powers are only inherited by one girl at a time.
    One of the last acts in the actual TV series is Willow who's basically a magic god at this point changes the rules of the Slayer curse allowing any woman who was a direct descendant of the original Slayer to inherit the Slayer Powers activating all the potentials at once.
    It is this genetic inheritability that actually allows the watchers to find potentials but because there are so many people who are distant descendants of an African-American woman who lived hundreds of thousands of years ago at this point could be almost any woman on Earth. That's how you get rogue slayers like Buffy.

    Dude Good Job! But Important CORRECTION(and some extra info) on a couple of mistakes/omissions: You have totally CONFUSED The sunlight ONLY removal weakness Rings from The Vampire Diaries/Originals mythology WITH the Gem Of Amara Of The Whedonverse...The former ONLY removes sunlight weakness nothing else(as you said it that they can walk in sunlight but nothing of the other weaknesses hence the critique by me).Those Vampires can still be killed by fire,decap and wooden Stake in the heart.HOWEVER in the Whedonverse the Gem of Amara removes ALL weaknesses from Vampires making them INDESTRUCTABLE!!(as long as they wear the ring which holds the Gem). This is confirmed by Gilles who calls it the "The Holy Grail of Vampirism". Staking(no matter how big or thick the stake as we have seen in Angel Tv series),decap,sunlight,fire GONE. Not only that But the vampire is also freed from physical pain or bleeding. It becomes a Terminator basically but also possessed of an instant healing factor to boot(something the T-800 Terminators cannot do.even though they feel no pain).
    Now you also forgot to mention that Dracula by gaining those special powers has also gained TRUE IMMORTALITY and INVULNERABILITY. If staked or dusted in any way he will regenarate in a matter of seconds.With no need from something like The Gem Ring.
    Crosses: Vampires are only affected(not that much either) by either touching the cross or having it waved in their face at close proximity by a believer.They can also pick up a cross(even a big silver one) and move it around(like Spike did when he fought Angel). it only affects them by burning them(slightly) but with no faith behind it doesnt do ANYTHING to their psyche. ALSO they can easily enter a room or even a Church FULL of crosses on the walls with no ill effect(as long as they stay away from them).
    Jumping: By the Angel season 4 we see Angel(and other vampires) being able to jump(from a standstill) several stories high worth. not just ten feet. Spike as well(however we never see those things on Buffy).
    Other important mentions as well.They dont have a daytime sleep coma like cycle like many of the classic vampires. Not only that but they dont need to sleep AT ALL(as Angel explained).They can stay awake and focused for eternity if they so choose. HOWEVER if they are warriors(Like Angel) who push their undead bodies to unthinkable extremes then they can indeed enjoy sleep to regenarate damages faster. BUT its a choice not a pre-requisite.This is a HUGE advantage over classical and/or semi-classical(such as Anne Rices)vampires.
    Vampires also have the ability to adapt to a stronger opponent if their will power is strong enough(Both Angel and Spike can do this).ALSO the fact that their physical structural integrity is so great(apart from allergens such as wooden stake in the heart) that they can fall from literally the top of a skyscraper on solid concrete and get up in a few seconds with no broken bones,concussions or anything. Astounding!!(But I guess you kind of covered this with Angel being run by a two ton truck multiple times and beaten with a sledgehammer-he was run over by the truck over his skull AND body several times with no ill effect).They can ALSO easily free dive to ANY depth of the ocean with no ill effect from the pressure(or lack of air obviously).In any case these Vampires CANNOT really be killed as you mentioned. ANY vampire can be regenarated back through black magic rituals(like Darla in Angel season 2) but it takes a lot to make it happen.Weaknesses ALSO DISSAPEAR naturally with great age(with no need from magic like Dracula used OR The Gem). Such as Stake weakness,fire.Kakistos could not be killed by a normal stake etc.Most likely and logically The Master.should be the same..a normal stake should not kill him...remember he died by falling and being impaled on a big table leg shard similar in thickness to the pole that killed Kakistos.AND he(The Master) left his skeleton completelly intact behind(something Kakistos could not do).
    Thats about all. Being a genx-er I watched both Buffy and Angel in their original airdated on the WB back in the 1990s.Those were the times.Nothing like experiencing an EPIC tv series as it unfolds over the years.
    Cheers.
