  • I present several quick and cheap ways to fix the fan annoying high pitched fan sound on the MPT-7210A Boost MPPT (well it's not really MPPT) Solar Charge Controller. The method I chose does not require 3D printing, cutting or grinding. There are more elegant ways but this will do for now. Thanks for watching, DDSolar
Update 9/2022 I've had this fan mod on my MPT 7210A charge controller for a few months and it's working great. I can barely hear anything.

That was marvelous! What I hate about the MPT7210A is the noise. And you pretty much took care of that!
What I like about the MPT7210A is the colored display and the info it provides, ease of use and versatility as a booster.
I'm wondering however if a thin foam gasket between the fan and the metal mount would also work, reduce or somewhat dull the high pitch sound? In any event thanks a lot for putting this up I would not have had the guts to tear this thing apart and fiddle with it the way you did.

Your comment made my day, thanks a lot! I like this charger for the same reasons, I have never seen a charge controller with a display this cool for such a small price. I think the foam would work, it just needs to get those super fast blades away from the thin metal "grill" that's covering it. It's very easy to get to the fan, just 4 screws (they are easy to strip) and there is the fan. It probably voids the warranty, but hey that's the price of making things better :)

Thanks! I just ordered a secondhand one of these and was wondering about the fan noise.

Welcome :) I would suggest a higher quality 40mm fan. Stock fan known to fail. I'm keeping an eye on mine and I don't run a lot of amps through it anyway.

@@solarpoweredge thanks! I have a small server combination fan I can split in two. One of those might do.

I just followed our host's advice and used a dremel to grind out the little cross pieces on the fan grill. Works a charm! Hardly notice the fan noise at this point! For me, this took an annoying device that I really didn't like using and made it into the device I hoped I was getting when I bought it!

@@solarpoweredge I just took a dremel to the little grill and it REALLY helps! The fan noise is hardly noticeable now! Thanks for the research and tip! Much obliged!

I expect to have time in a few months to make videos that are more involved. Just sticking to simple stuff right now. I know not to start any big and exciting projects cause I'll be too hurting to finish it lol.
