Love this. Great job! Needed this set up to think about designing mine
Glad it helped
Great video Tom, I could not agree more with what you have said. My shack used to be open and it was like a wind tunnel!
Cheers Steve, it's a live and learn thing
Mate your an inspiration nice one I’m gonna do this ❤️🙏🏿💯🤟🏾
Fantastic mate 👍🏻🍻
Great video and a lot of food for thought. Is your decking on an existing patio/hard standing? I fancy a shack at the end of my garden at some point but it's lawn at the moment. Not sure if I'd have to dig out and cast a base first.
No base, the joists are screwed to pins that are concreted in at each corner and a few more to stop it flexing. I covered the ground in weed membrane. All wood in the group is also bitumen painted
When you raise the grills off the floor, use that space under for bags of charcoal.... you could fit 2 bag of lumpwood under each grill..... but double line the "floor" so no embers can possibly get near, lol.
I've got all sorts of bits hidden under there thanks for watching
Looks awesome! Now I just need to get a house so I can build a shack lol. Apartment living with bbq as a hobby is rough 😂
Not the best but at least it's not stopping you mate. Thanks for watching and stopping by
A modification you could make to your build ups is to put drawers in them to store charcoal and other odds and ends.
You can access then from the side so I have a few its in there. Thanks for watching
Very good. I’d probably have a fire extinguisher in there, what with it being a creosote-stained wooden shake with a fire inside!
Nice big bucket of water handy mate
Thanks for sharing.
What size timbers did you use for the frame, studs and joists?
Sides are roughly 2x3 and roof batterns are 2x4
@@BBQLIFE top man, thanks!
fantastic job thinking of building myself
If you have the space you won't regret it
Boy, I like the way you talk, I'm from rural west Tennessee USA. Some of us talk your wayins, some of us talk like we got hot coals in our mouths. I'll get back with ya...
Funny that I'm a sucker for a tennessee accent myself. Welcome along fella
Some food for thought there, cheers
Glad Ive been some assistance 👍
Very cool. I wish I had the skills to do this.
Cheers Tommy's perfect brisket is harder lol
Very nice! you have proven that a shack doesn't need to cost a fortune and it should be simple and functional. I like the layout of your shack, very good usage of space. The only thing I suggest is adding a tile floor. You can simply glue tiles to the wooden floor. As it is the shack is a fire hazard, and things can get out of control in seconds.
Good shout on a tile floor. I've got an extinguisher and I'm as careful as I can be
Loved this video! I'm looking to build my own in the next few weeks. Mine will be open. I can see where you are coming from re not having any water access. Does water run off that roof? If it did what about a bit of drainage into a water butt which sits next to your shack? I have waterbutts running off my shed I build. It is a tin roof though. Great vid. 👍
Yes the water runs off the back. Welcome to the community mate
Very nice shack! What fridge are you using? Is it an outdoor fridge? Great videos btw, keep up the good work!
Its a domestic fridge I don't use it all year around mainly big events and Christmas. I just plug it in the day before I want it (usually full of beer 🍺)
@@BBQLIFE Haha, brilliant, great idea!!!
Great shack and video. What materials did you use for the roof structure?
Cheers, the roof is reclaimed ply board the stud work is the same as the walls. The roof is double skies so the smoke flows out better 👍🏻
@@BBQLIFE do you mean double skin? Also, did you have to treat the inside of the roof to cope with the heat from the Kamado / Weber?
I’m starting to plan out an 8ft square BBQ shack and the ventilation and heat are the 2 things I’m trying to get my head round. Cheers.
The ply is on top of the rafters for the felt to attach to and also under the rafters making it flat so the smoke flows out and not caught in the rafters (Like a cavity wall).Does that make sense? Its not treated with anything special (Black ducks back fence paint). It doesn't got that hot to be honest
@@BBQLIFE Brilliant, sounds like that works really well. Thanks for the info.

Great video, what are the dimensions of your shack?
1.8 x 2.4 meters, glad it helped 👍🏻
Any charring on the wood near the bbq?
Nope nothing other than this
czcams.com/video/PTOPXnn4sYE/video.html
you could add running water using a small tank like they have in a caravan
Good point I would want it hot so it would become a lot of aggravation. Thanks for stopping by and Commenting
@@BBQLIFE not necessarily. you already have power and you can get drop in water heaters. a small 5 or 10 litre tank would be plenty. or just have a kettle in there
czcams.com/video/bgA18nFk-a0/video.html
Very nice job
Thanks for watching 👍🏻🍺
Do you get problems with rodents, birds and insects since it seems quite open in that regard? Any suggestions to keep those things away (other than regular cleaning).
Spiders generally don't like smoke so I don't see many of them. Never had birds either. Not seen any evidence of mice but I do clean down surfaces every time in case.
Nice BBQ Shack!
Thanks, it's my happy place 👍🏻🍺🔥
The ting goes braaap braaap braaap, big shak ya dunno!
Class Vid cheers :)
Cheers 🍺
How much did it cost
I spent no more than £100 mainly on wood preserve and screws. All the wood came from work ans skips.
Great shack. What are dimensions? H W L
Highest point is 2.4 includingthe roof. , 2.4 wide acrossthr front. 1.8 deep.
