00:01 🎙 Introduction and background information
Ren welcomes viewers and introduces the topic of discussion.
Mentions that his insights are influenced by his writing and previous videos.
Promotes his books and Patreon support.
    02:49 🧬 Explaining "Instrumentalism"
Ren defines "Instrumentalism" or "means-ends thinking" as a worldview where everything is valued for its utility and contribution to something else.
Discusses how instrumentalism is prevalent in society due to its alignment with capitalism and commodification.
    06:50 🌌 Introducing "Pop Spirituality"
Ren introduces "Pop Spirituality" as a term for private, aestheticized spiritual activities that don't challenge instrumentalism.
Explains how pop spirituality remains niche and doesn't pose a threat to the dominant instrumental thinking.
13:49 🌟 INFJs as Potential Articulators of a Spiritual Worldview
Ren discusses the need for a renewed understanding of spirituality that complements, rather than replaces, mechanistic thinking.
Highlights the unique position of INFJs in articulating this alternative worldview based on their perception of the spiritual and meaning-making.

Hi Ren. "What is the Spiritual, where do we find it, how do we define it and how do we hold on to it??"
In the mid nineties, I got very sick, a doctor came into an exam room and said this: "Jeremy you are going to die, go home, kiss your ass goodbye and wait to die."
In short order things began to happen. All the pegs fell into their right slots. (Was that Odd or Was that God) I wasn't a church goer back then by any means, but I got all the spiritual teaching I needed to survive, thankfully. I still am not a church goer today.(It's a long story). I do have a spiritual director in Alberta, now almost 20 years.
After getting sick I combed book stores for many different books on spiritual teaching, end of life situations, what was on the other side, and who was on the other side waiting.
For my whole life, family members who have died all came back to me, in one fashion or another. (I can tell you that whole story one day) suffice to say, I had a lot of angelic help.
I don't prescribe to doctrine, per se. But I do follow my religion of origin (Catholicism). I hold degrees in Religion and Theology. (That went no where)
I am a little bit Catholic, a little bit Jewish, and a little bit of everything else, in good measure, (from my uni days).
I spent 20 years in a sober fellowship with people who talked of God, preached the words, but were hypocrites. At the end I decided to leave because the fellowship was incongruent with my personal spiritual practice and beliefs. You cannot praise the Baby Jesus and be a hypocrite when you "Leave the room" so you said.
After leaving the fellowship, I deleted all my social media except YT. I don't watch tv. Except what I want to watch on YT. I am a pod cast listener and a reader. I am not part of the world around me, in social means. But I participate in my community when I can. I take care of the building I live in, because I can, and not because I have to. Because neighbors like a clean house, yes??
I've been to many places in 56 years, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I don't take my survival for granted, because in the back of my head I am waiting for the other shoes to drop.
In July I cross the 31 year mark from my first death date. (Is that Odd or is that God??)

I see a number of people who have left comments here mention that they think a sense of purpose is a necessity of life (I'm paraphrasing, of course). But I've actually had conversations with people who don't feel compelled to have a sense of purpose at all. They don't see their lives as something to be channeled toward a particular goal. And they therefore don't feel the need to search for meaning.
Until I had conversations with those people, I never knew they existed. I thought everyone was like me and wanted to find the place in which they fit.
But it turns out not everyone has the same definition of "thriving." For INFJs, I think our definition of thriving includes a sense of purpose. But it's important to remember for others, it may not.
Perhaps you could explore this concept a little further in your next book.

We do need to find meaning in this modern world. I am always looking for that. I'll be looking forward to more discussion on this topic in your videos and book. Thanks, Ren.☺️

As an INFJ we are always looking for overall patterns to our understanding of reality. One thing I have observed is that the basic problem with capitalism is that it distorts true value of most things, and it often puts profits before people. Our governments should chase fairness indicators and happiness/wellbeing over GDP. The common confusion is that challenging capitalism is challenging virtue and efficiency but that should and needn’t be the case at all. Capitalism works well for some things, like product development. Capitalism dies not own market forces and trading. The theory of capitalism as a moral as well as practical aesthetic is predicated on it assuming it creates a meritocracy, when in reality it is far from it. It is great at maximally distorting and idea of a meritocracy, and that’s why it is favoured so much by rich people.

I agree that meaning and spirituality are almost synonymous- I think what you’re describing here is an innate need for purpose? I hope I don’t over simply my reconstruction. But I wonder how this relationship is different from other types, because I do believe purpose is a necessary part of life for all humans to feel self actualized. Maybe it’s that INFJs are more consciously aware of its necessity.

Spirituality has always been a big part of who I am, even as child. I can't help but see the world through a spiritual lens. I think our modern culture has lost touch with that side of humanity in the truest sense. I enjoyed your talk and look forward to the new book.

I think most people today see personal experience and meaning as purely subjective and this fits in with pop spirituality, which is usually? Shallow and lacks deeper meaning. Of course some MBTI types will natural be cognitively attuned to subjectivism (ISFP for eg.).
I think this also fits in with how society has gone in recent decades via the religion of free market capitalism. As Thatcher said in the 89s, ‘there is no such thing as society’, the dominant economic/political orthodoxy aligned with increasing secularism and thus a highly atomised and individualistic society where personal subjective experience was all that counted and selfishness was seen as normal and even virtuous.
This has resulted in a highly divided society with increasing mental illness and poor life satisfaction.
