With the cross bars installed, this technically becomes a “roof rack” which can be used to install a number of cargo carrying devices. I will be installing a cargo carrier on this vehicle in a future episode.

To be honest, this is great advice for ANY endeavor! Rock on Eric! 👍
Do not be disheartened by mean comments Eric. You are doing a great job. They have no idea how hard it is to work and record simultaneously. And the video IS HELPFUL and detailed.
Thank you.
@@ericthecarguy I'm sorry but I have a negative comment!.....

"If you get it wrong, well it might not be quite right." -Eric The Car Guy 2018
With that interlude of music I almost said "Fourth floor please". That kit looks good and well made.
Between this video and the last, it's a job that is doable by the average man, but it is deceptive in complexity. Getting the measurements right on the trim has very little wiggle room, your citing the classic adage of measure twice, cut once is a helpful reminder to the impatient. Getting the cross bars installed the right way is also easy to overlook. So while these are short videos, they are ultimately some of the most utilitarian in that they are videos that help with a 'simple' job that became far from the simple it was thought to be. Thank you for putting this sort of thing up along with the more complex jobs, there's nubs like me at every level of automotive self-care and repair that are greatly helped by this.
Thank you!
The average woman can do it too, btw.
@@juliebrienza5457 ...and now I want to smack me from two years ago for not being inclusive.
Enjoyed the "un-boxing" section of this video.
Yea cameraman BRIAN is listed. Great to see him back .
We installed these rails & racks on our 2017 Honda Odyssey. So, glad we had this video! The directions that come with it do not explain the details that Eric points out! So glad we found these videos on Odyssey rails and racks! I watched the videos, ordered the parts. My husband & a buddy installed the rails and racks. Good investment! Thank you Eric! Appreciate your video!
It’s projects like this that most of us just do and don’t even think twice about we just do them. Thanks for putting out videos for those non car people that look to CZcams for help. Always enjoy your work.
GearHeads Rule!
Another good video Eric! Love what you do and very helpful.
I had one simple question because my instructions didn’t specify. I needed to know if the thicker side of the cross bar faced the front of the vehicle and you answered my question in no time at all. Thanks for the video!
Sweet unboxing music! Very relaxing and inviting.
You answered a lot of my questions on installation. Great vid!
Really clean install. Precise. Informative. And you seem like a great guy. Well done.😀
My roof rack was whistling. The illustrations in the directions looked like a 1st grader drew them with a crayon. Watched this video and got it right. Thanks!!
Outstanding job thanks
Thanks for the info
Thank you for the vidoe content
Hey Eric! As always, great explained! Have you ever seen the "Roof rails with integral basic carrier bars" on a Mercedes Citan or Renault Kangoo? I wish every car had these installed, in 30 seconds the bars are ready for use and you always have them with you!
Really not interested in cross bars , but its Eric, so what is not to like.
Yep, it doesn't matter what the video is. All you need to know is it's EricTheCarGuy and the video will be good.
Front is thicker saved me a lot of searching. Didn’t look right, glad I found this. Saved me a lot of time figuring it out. That would have sucked! Carrying on now with install, tanks agains.
Great tips on installing the cross rails.
Great Video.. Well Done..
Those roof rails look great on the Honda and the beard looks great on the Eric. Win! Win!
Great video Eric
Nice job
That's cool. Didn't know these existed
True-ism of the day. If you get it wrong it may not be quite right. 😉
Nice job Eric. I could almost hear the click on that torque wrench 😜
I'm in love with this man ❤❤❤❤❤
Yeah, good job!
Very clear, step-by-step directions and really great tutorials. Just wondering how sturdy these crossbars when loaded?
Those are really sturdy looking cross bars. Last ones i got was for a friend who owns a Focus, and they didn't exactly inspire confidence in me...
Envisioning the lost-luggage-on-the -highway scene in the original "Vacation" movie.
That was easier than installing the roof rack. Thanks
Thank you!
Done.
Thank you
Thanks so much
Eric Great work keep it up love when you said fiddling with it me too LOL do you use the mirror when you do POO POO HEHEHE
At first, I was surprised by Eric laying the tools on the roof, possibly scratching it. Then I thought, 'wait, it's a Honda. Who cares?' : )
He is too good at it. I can learn the way he teaches
Love the unboxing music
Thank you sir
5:05 I was waiting for you to say "click" when they felt snug enough lol
thank U eric, I have fun and stay dirty by watching your videos, from turkey
Thanks much
I was listening to a Bill Burr podcast today and he was talking about the few CZcams channels he watched and the only one he mentioned by name was Eric The Car Guy!
Eric is way ahead of the curve on beards.
Hi, I watched your video on roof rails and then one on cross bar, great work, really led me by the hand through the install process. After I downloaded the instructions as you noted, things went well. Thanks a million. Question: When I installed the crossbars I noticed that there was some "play" between the cross bars and the rails. You can move them up and down a bit; that is, things are not tight and snug, so I wonder if I amgoing to hear some vibration from them in the wind as well as whether they are tight enough to hold the weight I put on them? I fear tightening the 8 screws too tight to make a snugger fit as they are in aluminum and might break the threads with something like an impact drill, etc. Do you have suggestions on how to fix this looseness or is it supposed to be that way? Please illuminate as I know only you can do.....
Nice to have an easy job once in a while.
Love the elevator music, but I still have beard envy!
Awesome
The fact that there are people out there that would take the time to watch the video and give it a thumbs down is mind numbing. How could Eric have done it any better? Get a freaking life trolls!
Hi Eric, can you please show us how to instal a flux capacitor so i can travel back in time and not meet my ex
🤔
I'd love that video as well!
Do u need side rails to mount the crossbars? I want to put some on my element.
eric can you do a video on installing lpg fuel system in a petrol car
Looks great to me, just needs a black torpedo fitting now :-D.
I have a short ratchet, I bought it for those jobs where you don't want to put too much torque on a bolt, and being 3 inches long it's very handy for confined spaces.
Also it was cute and cheap lol.
Good call. I often tell people to use 1/4" tools to avoid overtorquing.
And they are cute lol.
Sorry i don't have much to say about the roof rack bars fitting, maybe add light thread locker to the threads to stop the bolts shaking out with the wind/box interaction.
Thanks men you re a life saver not to metion time 😅save thank a bunch
What size of bolts are you use for crossbar installation? I bought Crossbar on Amazon year ago and I just noticed the screws are missing.
Are roof baskets universal? I see most are sold in pair with the crossbars.
hello eric . 2010 toyota prius 75k miles . p0328 ( it must to replace the knock sensor or there is something wrong like fuel, oil or spark plug . thnx
Is it worth it to go with the OE bars for Toyota?
I have a 2016 Chevy Tahoe. Is it pretty Much the same idea?
Honda related question...what is your advice re ATF?
Our daily drivers are a pair of '98 Hondas, a CR-V and Civic Aerodeck..both automatic, owned from new.
Have always used correct Honda ATF Z1 fluid, this has been replaced with DW1.
5:48 "CLICK" LOL...One of these times we'll here him pull and AvE for that.
Very helpful. Just installed cross rails on my Nissan Rogue.
Hi Eric, I picked up a rental car, a Subaru with only a few hundred miles. It had a most annoying wind whistle at 30 MPH and faster. When I got to my hotel, took a quick look at the car and found that whoever had installed the OEM Subaru cross-bar had installed it backwards. It did not even look right. I had to buy a wrench and correct the error so I could drive the car, so I charged the rental company for the repair. I wonder how many complaints they had for that error.
Can this work for a ladder?
If it's not right; it's wrong.

Link for cross bar purchase?
Eric the torque wrench.
Why does this lowkey give me a ASMR vibe
Hey ETCG, I used to own an Odyssey, a 2004, ya know one of they ones with the "glass transmission". Odyssey owners probably would love to see you do a video on tips specifically (if there is any) on how to get the most out of the Odyssey transmission. Especially since they love to go bad. And because, no offense, but I don't enjoy paying a guy like you 3500 bucks or more to get a new transmission. I'm sure the other owners don''t either. LOL
czcams.com/video/R52MQ-UOhB4/video.html
I also have a video that I have yet to edit on the R&R of the transmission as well as it's disassembly. Sadly, it's a lot of footage and I haven't had the time to edit it.
@@ericthecarguy Thanks! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
@@ericthecarguy Had to put a transmission in my 04 Odyssey when I owned it. In fact, it had four transmissions the reman replacement for the original went bad, and when I brought it in for service to maintain the warranty, the shop where I had it replaced said they didn't like the way the third one was working either so they did that one too. Cost me nothing. It pays to find a good, honest shop.
I heard there was some of Honda secret warranty on these transmissions... that true
@@adventureoflinkmk2 Yes that is true.
Any one knows the size of the screws? My kit arrived without the hardware
How much weight cant they support?
I believe about 170lbs. Could be more.
Can it be an "un-boxing" section....if there is no box? lolz. That was technically an un-wrapping section. Still found it amusing.
Well, that was the point.
Uhh.. is today Thursday or Friday....
So the crossbars are not adjustable?
who needs crossbars when i have a truck lol
Locktite on all of those bolts
Looks just like our Chevy Traverse roof rails.
Put a blanket on the roof to prevent scratching the roof.
Love the elevator music!!
I would say 'unbagging section' 😆😆
Gotta say. The full beard looks better.
I’m looking to take my rails off I don’t like the way they look on my Honda Odyssey.
Ignore the haters eric...
What is with the trend of non adjustable crossbars? There are times that I would have to adjust the crossbars to fit whatever load I am using them for. Are people just not using crossbars anymore, so no one cares?
Crossbars - wait until you get some snow and have to brush off the roof with those bloody things in the way... Grrr....
Its really not that bad. I've been doing that for years. The worst part is just pushing the snow from underneath the crossbars, but just turn the brush sideways and push. It adds maybe an extra minute each time I clean the car off. On my Subaru outback, which I didn't struggle to reach the roof, it added maybe 15 seconds. Just remember to clear fresh snow, not snow that has been sitting around.
I guess I could remove the crossbars if I cared to, but its really not worth the effort.
I would also guess that since I see about half the cars on the road that didn't clear the snow off, half the people won't have an issue with the crossbars anyway.
Hey Eric I gave you a thumbs up but really who cares, I think your reaching for content.
man thats like 10 times more complicated then on a TrailBlazer, you literally just pop the front cap off the rails and slide them on. No front and back bar BS it's the same width the whole way and it's a slide track so you can position them as needed.
Mmm
i don't even have the car why i'm watching this
Vans and SUVs look naked without roof rails and bars on them.
I took mine off my Trailblazer, it was different but I like the clean look now and never used them anyway.
you are so adorable
Next video, how to put air in the tires of your Honda Odyssey van!
Installing a cargo carrier actually. This is part 2 of a 3 part series.
@@ericthecarguy it's like you're not even trying anymore, you put out 3 parts at 6-10 minutes, all 3 should have been one video of around 20ish minutes. Next you won't even work on cars and just scream nonsense at the camera for 2-3 minutes twice a day and go on about how the Honda Odyssey is the best van ever made, I hope you know who I'm referring to.
