Hi Tyler, Thanks for the great job on many Gen 1 topics!! I just bought my '06 4WD in Nov '23. Pushing to get it ready for a western US tour and dual sport bike ride of The TaT (Telluride to Pacificcoast) pulling a 24' toyhauler. The truck, toy hauler and the bike are all recent purchases . Point, no time for deeply involved but necessary mods. This headlight mod is very attractive for safety sake. I'm wondering if the Morimotos are available already installed in the new housings by anyone reliable such that I might save the time of baking, modifying and re-sealing.....? Thanks Chris
TEQ customs, among a few others, can do it. But I think they’re over a month lead time?

You’d probably be looking at replacing an individual part, like the bulbs if they go out. i want to say those are $50 a pair. I would say most people sell their vehicle before the retrofits ever break down.

I like how the Morimoto setup seals out dust and moisture way better than cheesing the boot around a miniprojector.

Thank you, i just purchased the Y12, I put LEDS in my tundra and they are just bad and not made the housing. the Y12 seems like a noticeable updrage because I am a broke college student too poor for retrofit. plus the 15% off makes it just $52!

When it comes to optic, size does mater. That's why you should have probably gone for the 3" mini D2S since the headlight is large enough for it, it should be about 30% brighter.
For the small light scatter out of the projector, it's probably because you have some light leak between the projector shroud and the factory reflector.
Also, that cheap projector was aimed at the sky ^^
I chose the projector based on price. The makes sense.
No…. The mini projector was aimed alright. I tested that all out when I first installed it
@@208Tyler oh, then yes, I didn’t realize the difference was significant.
At 1:53 you can clearly see that the LED is aimed way higher than the HID, so at least one of them is badly aimed ;)
At 1:53 what you’re seeing is the cutoff line disappear due to scatter above the cutoff line.
My projector retrofits cost a pretty penny but I use them every night. 🙂
