    These video's were my lifeline when I got my MK2 50. I like to use modern most then deep. I find vintage too fizzy. I have my gain at 10 and I like to switch between the tube screamer and the guv distortion. I have the gain at 50 in the booster and use 2 EQ'S. I now have what I think is possibly the best chunkiest metal sound. I've had a few amps over the years from a Marshall valvestate 80 watt to a hughs and kettner 15 watt. I can't remember the actual name of it. At first I wasn't happy with the amp, but know that I've figured the amp out. Tone studio is a must with this amp or you really have access to 25% if that of katana range. It has everything you could ever need built straight in to it. You can get any sound from clean to really nice chunky metal. I'm pretty damn happy with this amp I have to say. I highly recommend. Or you could spend $1500+ just for a tube head then another $700+ for a cab. Then theirs any effects you want. That's another $500+ if your going for more than 2 effects. It depends on where in the world your from. I think $350 is an absolute bargain.

      @@dazzmetcoll3843Hello! Yes, I run the Boss Tone Studio in a different window outside of Studio One to change the amp settings. I also use the line out instead of the record out because it allows use of the speaker and the line out signals at the same time. I use the 5 watt setting and mic the speaker into another channel in Studio One. This allows you to mix both signals with great results.

    Can you show me how to make a basic tones (Clean, Crunch, Drive and Lead) for live use, and adjust the volumes so there's no massive volume drops or jumps. I've always had trouble setting those up using my old amp (Fender Mustang 3 V2). I mostly use Line Out to PA System. Recently I got myself a Boss Katana MK2 100, and I'm loving the tones right out of the box, really brings the true sound of my guitars, but I don't want to dig into the amp too much (If I don't have to).

    Thanks so much for the tips! its been ridiculously tricky and tedious to get even semi-decent tones on this amp. Finally managed to get a tone that is somewhat similar to modern metal bands (Periphery, Monuments...)! (also, if you have any ideas on how to get those kinds of guitar tones, that would be sweeeet!)
    The one major drawback of the amp is that the sound coming from the amp itself is WAY better/cleaner/sharper than that of the USB-recorded audio. Do you know what the deal is? is there a way to compensate for that?

  • @user-mp1fd1lu6r
    @user-mp1fd1lu6r Před 2 lety

    Thanks for great videos! Really useful! However, I haven't been able to replicate this sound. I dialed exactly the same values on my Katana Boss MK2 100watt. Before turning on the booster it sounded quite close to what you played. Not exactly to my ears, but close (all values identical with yours). Whatever sound you come up with (including other great videos with Katana), it's much more tight and kinda fat, full and "compressed" compared to my attempts to replicate, even when there's no comp in the chain. I don't get why that happens to my tone. There're two variables I can think of. You own high quality and great sounding guitars like original Fenders, Gibsons with great pickups, etc. I try to replicate the sound on an inexpensive Cort Katana KX1Q (haha by the way, it's a Katana, too LOL). Also, the tone is in the players hands. Anything else? I'm not a great player, but do my best to attack strings, keep hands synchronized, etc., but the difference is significant. May be the recorded sound we hear on the vid goes through some post production? Or it sounds differently recorded into your DAW when compared to the "right in your face" sound I get in front of my katana? My sound is less tight, more chubby, distorted and as soon as I add that booster it starts kinda falling apart, way too distorted and seems to have extra gain, though booster values are also identical...What am I missing?

    • @user-mp1fd1lu6r
      @user-mp1fd1lu6r Před 2 lety

      upd. I've found one of the reasons. I lowered my pickups about 1 milimiter, or slightly more. The sound became more tight and distinct, one setp closer toward the one you designed in the video. I have EMG HiZ pickups, I guess their output is a bit too intense and it distorted the sound. It sounds better now, however, not exactly what I'd like to hear.

    • @alexanderholden82
      @alexanderholden82 Před 2 lety +1

      It sounds like what you're describing is a simple difference in the types of guitars and especially the pickups... I found this out very quickly after I swap some stock Jackson pickups out of my Jackson Dinky and put in some Seymour Duncan Distortion pickups... I had to dial back my gain and equalizer settings to tone match the different pickups. You basically have to take these headaches as a template and adjust the discrepancies.

    • @user-mp1fd1lu6r
      @user-mp1fd1lu6r Před 2 lety +1

      @@alexanderholden82 I've figured that out already, thx for the reply anyways! In my first attempts to dial the tone I was using a cheap Cort guitar. Later I bought a much better instrument, a Schecter made in Japan with Seyomour Duncan pickups. The difference in sound quality was so obvious in favor of the Schecter! Also, I figured out that the room where I often play is not the best place for sound design. I used to take the Katana with the new guitar to my friend's place (he's a mixing engineer), he's got a home studio with very basic acoustic treatment, but in his space the Katana sounds so much tighter and distinct. There's much less fizziness and low end. All those things sum up and have influence on the tone. That's my experience, hope my comment will help others to understand where's the root of all evil in designing guitar tones! Cheers!

    • @zakklee2556
      @zakklee2556 Před 2 lety

      Thought I'd help you out here...couple of tricks for Owner: use the crunch channel on mid gain so it is just beginning to break up. Bass=0, mid=37, treb=50. Vintage cab and 60 presence. That gives you a reasonable tone (depending on your guitar, of course). Next I use a short digital delay (124ms, 12, 4.0, 43,100) and short plate reverb (.9sec, 20ms, 400, 4.0, 6, 30, 100) to get that thick slap back effect. Now, for the riffs you're gonna use the Harmonist in the FX section. Put it on 1 Voice, 5th, 44, 0ms, 0, key of C, 100) This will give you the parallel 5ths as you play. You'll want to switch this on for the riffs, then off. I assume you're playing A-B-C-D-D, G-G as your chords. May need to change the Key in the harmonist if you're using something else. Good luck!

    Hey does anyone have any advice about getting a good drive/lead setting on the Katana for a Strat with a Hot Rails bridge pickup? I love the hot rail through a lot of amps, but the mids are too strong with my Katana 50 MKII. I prefer the sound of the "lead" amp over the "brown" one, but the mids are already very high on the "lead" amp, so it sounds weird with my Hot Rail. I've noticed that when I scoop the mids on the Katana that it doesn't respond like most amps do. It actually cuts other frequencies besides mids, it seems. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking of switching to a little '59, but I don't have the money right now to operate on my guitar.

      I got it few months ago. Still can't get over the fact how many different sound you can make with it.
      Opening up the Studio was another whole new discovery of possibilities.
      But since I'm a beginner with an electric guitar I still don't know what exact setting to use to get a blues sound, metal sound etc.

      Lars Walther it has to do with make you have. You probably have a boss make 1 aka mki. The newer amps mkii that came out in October 2019, it now has 8 presets you can access using the amp alone, or using the boss gafc.

    Hi Paul. How do you get all your guitars to sound so full and chunky? I can't achieve that for the life of me. It sounds too 'hollow". Perhaps it's the pickups on my guitar (stock Ibanez)? Would love some tips! Using the Katana 100 mk2.

    It's really hard to create a modern metal tone with the katana. I dont understand why the BOSS-people didn't add that sort of an amp type like a dual rectifier or peavey 5150. I literally only play guitar to chug

    • @alexanderholden82
      @alexanderholden82 Před 2 lety

      Unofficially it actually does... Boss used amps sims from the GT series for the amp models...

      Brown: soldano SLO 100

    • @alexanderholden82
      @alexanderholden82 Před 2 lety

      @@kaspergamer460 I replied with a link to a Reddit Forum where I was reading about this topic. Apparently these simulations are leftover as the sneaky amps because boss used the same Hardware platform for the katana that they used with the Boss gt-100. Someone had found the original computer source TSL files for the amp types were the same as these particular amplifier types. Although I personally think that the lead and brown channels could be switched... meaning I could imagine the lead Channel being more of a Soldano emulation and the brown channel of more of a 5150 emulation.

    All the info is in these videos. I bought the presets and there is nothing special to them. Every knob is almost at noon and the only difference is the amp type. You can literally do all this yourself and not spend the money. Thanks for the info studio rats, but you should not be charging money for these presets. They are worth no money and you should feel ashamed you’ve ever taken anyone’s money for these presets.
