This interview gave me alot of insights on so many things that are becoming cleaerer. From state capture on how it works to self interests.
I decided to revisit this interview after the campaign. I have listened to Ruto after he being elected , and i dont know whether anyone has noticed a transformation of a person who is totally different from the ruto we once used to know or perceived to know.
When you listen to this interview you can tell the person Ruto really listens to and the person behind Ruto or the one with the most influence in Rutos govt its David Ndii. Everything Ruto is saying after being elected is a carbon copy of what Davd NDii is saying. For sure when it comes to economic policy one can tell its David Ndii advising Ruto and Ruto has entrusted NDII to be his chief economic advisor.
Also, NDii is a very sharp guy. What if Raila had listened to NDii to not only shake hands with Uhuru and have a govt of Nusu Mukate but have a broader conversation on any changes to the constitution that would be subjected to a referundum by the people. May be Raila today would have been president.

Uhuru´s botched government cannot and will not guarantee stability and rationality in Kenya. His manner of improvising every morning that he wakes up leaves the country political scarring, loss of credibility of the electoral system and atmosphere of feuding, recrimination and not talking of corruption. The contorted manoeuvring of political parties will lead to the worst outcome seen in the history of Kenyan politics
Urgent matters require government attention. The economic and social conditions of the country as it exits the pandemic necessitate a steady hand.
The question is; can these challenges be met by Raila and his Azimio? The answer is NO; since its the very same Raila and his ODM party that gave such a dismal performance providing essential support to the Uhuru´s government.
First, the pandemic retreat may be in sight, but careful management is still needed. Phasing out of the emergency measures has to be planned and implemented, both in the economic and health sector.
Ruto´s government must commit, to overhaul the public budget, reduce unsustainable debts, reduce taxes, eliminate waste and increase productive investment. All this must coexist with a credible public debt reduction plan.
Third, trial procedures must be overhauled to increase efficiency and speed.
This is a key reform in a country that has by far the longest trial duration in the World. The parliament has authorised the government to act by decree, and Uhuru has failed to safeguard the Constitution and fell short of leadership and integrity.
New regulations must now be introduced linking retirement to life expectancy, with penalties for early retirement to ensure financial sustainability.

What you are talking about NOW makes a lot of ECONOMIC sense. I agree the country has to monetise the infrastructure in order to get us out of the . I agree politics of self interest is one of the main cause of failure of government. I agree that we must have good institution - not necessarily good people.
