  • Among the most influential guitarists of his generation, Rory Gallagher set the standard for excellence - on stage and in the studio. Rory was that rare guitarist whom you recognize in a single passage. His bassist for his entire solo career was Gerry McAvoy, whom we interviewed from his home in France for the Bass Guitar Radio Show.

Absolutely genious. One of my all-time favorite players. Saw him with Rory in Richmond, VA, opening for the Doobie Brothers in the mid-70s. Then I saw that band three times in Germany in ‘82. Since then, seeing him with Band of Friends both in Ballyshannon (!) and Richmond. Honored to have had him sign my Ibanez GSR-200.

Gerry is a beast! His raw energy on stage is amazing to watch! I'm usually focused on the 6 string slingers to hopefully pick up a new lick, but that's hard to do when Gerry hits the stage!

Absolutely - Gerry was the perfect bassist for Rory.

@@knowyourbassplayer I agree with your comment on Gerry when I watch bands I always focus on the guitar player but when I listen to Rory I find myself listening to Gerrys playing as much as Rorys Gerry is a beast of a player

One of my bass heroes A cat who played to the song, supported the soloist, and always had something interesting to say on the instrument. Thanks for watching!

So nice to see and listen to a "non-RIP" seventies rock player! I'am sorry because I don't know the men who are interviewing mister McAvoy , the one over on the right asked a very interesting question ,few people ask: how it happened that american slaves'blues inspired English and Irish bands, I like Mr McAvoy answer: question of feeling the suffering, liking the storytelling and the sounds of the guitars and probably in Europe tracks of american blues began to appear thanks to Motown or others in the early sixties. Thank you for posting this, so good to ear about Rory
