Hi Pat. The brace is a piece of square steel tubing with a piece of flat 1/4" steel welded on top to form a T. We then drilled holes in the cross piece to mount the decoy body. Your local welding shop could make up one of these in a jiffy.
Finding good carving wood is a challenge. Depending upon where you live check with local saw mills. There are some online sources...shipping is the issue there. I'v found some wood in building salvage yards...old White Pine planks and beams.
Where can I buy the spoke shaves you use?
What are you using for the brace? That is so simple I love it but can't find one.

I can't find those "Rutgers" spoke shavers that you used in your video! Any ideas on a link or where to purchase?!? Thanx!
I don't know whether Paul is making spokeshaves these days, but you can contact him via Facebook. Search for Rutgers Wooden Spoon and Utensil Co.
Thanx, so much for the quick and useful tip!!
