  • English: The Austrian imperial anthems, also called folk anthems, were anthems of the House of Austria from 1797 and from 1826 to 1918 the official imperial anthems of the Austrian Empire, which no longer included the lands of the Hungarian crown since 1867 (Austria-Hungary). The hymns were always based on the melody composed by the Austrian composer Joseph Haydn on behalf of Emperor Franz II. English: "God save Franz the Emperor" was a personal anthem to Francis II, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and later of the Austrian Empire, with lyrics by Lorenz Leopold Haschka (1749-1827) and music by Joseph Haydn. It is sometimes called the "Kaiserhymne". Haydn's tune has since been widely employed in other contexts: in works of classical music, in Christian hymns, in alma maters, and as the tune of the "Deutschlandlied", the national anthem of Germany.
