I feel sad, I was seventeen when I saw A summer place, the movie, and that music reminds me to an unbelievable past. I'm 77 now and I lost all those illusions I had that time. Pardon my poor English, I'm brazilian. ((Rio, 24/aug/2020).

Takes me back to the early 70's living in small town eastern Ontario. In my childlike naïtivity, the world seemed closer and more secure than it seems today.

Is it sad to admit that I’ve been looking for this song my whole life? I’m 31. It reminds me of the childhood I didn’t get to have.
Back in September 1959 I was 12 years old, and this beautiful instrumental would lull me to sleep. It still has the same effect.
You must have been the first to hear it, because it was not released until shortly after it was recorded on Sep. 11, 1959! Was not a hit in entering the Hot 100 (at 96) until Jan. 11, 1960. But within 6 weeks it leaped to #1 for the week of Feb. 22, and stayed at #1 through its last week on Apr. 18, for 9 consecutive weeks. The record for any instrumental after the Hot 100 started in Aug. 1958.

This version of the theme from A Summer Place arranged and conducted by Percy Faith and released in 1960 set a record for the longest sustained #1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 of 11 weeks, a record it held for 36 years.

A magic renditions a beautiful melodic line and harmony. The closer is the tie between the Violins and French Horns.
1959: Written by the immortal movie composer Max Steiner when he was 71. To be more precise, the 'young lovers' theme, one of four he wrote for the movie soundtrack. Percy Faith's arrangement was perfect, and this was a monster hit through 1959 and '60. Still holds up 60 years on. Written as an instrumental; Mack Discant added lyrics later on.
Recorded on Septemebr 11, 1959.
Steiner would be composing for films for another 6 years !.

I'm in south Ariz., About 50 minutes from U.S./MEX. border. When I was a kid in mid-1960s our AM radio could get KOMA. I think it's from Oklahoma,
theme from, "A Summer Place" would come on. Later on, FM classic music stations came about. Percy Faiths', A Summer Place; sounded so good.

The first time I heard this song was when it first came out. I was a little kid and the whole family was in the car for a Sunday drive. I looked around the car as the music played and I could have sworn I was in Heaven.

I saw the movie A Summerplace when I was just a kid, just on our black and white tv and it gave me a special feeling , the romance in the movie with this tune. Always think back to that precious time that never will come back again. Best melodie ever made. Thank you so much Percy, you were so great

I think I remember in the early 60's of a couple dancing all over the floor to this recording of Summer Place. They made it seem easy to a young boy, but now when listening I can follow three different parts of the song beat. In this recording you can hear all instruments totally clear and in tune. I wonder if in 2022 any young people know this song!!!

When I was just a kid my father took me to the cinema, it was the first time I had the opportunity to watch a movie , so I was really excited; before they start showing the film this music came on and at the end of it the film began; many times after this I've got interested in take back my old memories on this song and looked for it but I didn't know the name of it until now, but watcthing a cartoon by Disney's studios I finaly got the title of it "theme from a summer place" by Henry Mancini or Percy Faith, it is simply wonderful...

Reminds me of sitting in the park with my brother and my mom watching the Merry-Go-Round go round and round to the Summer Place song I was six my brother was 4 wonderful times, I'm 64 years old now,my brother and mom are gone now but i will never forget that SUMMER PLACE.

My late mother would play this on our old RCA record player in the early '60s. I still recall liking it even when the Beatles showed up. Memories of a better time in America, before JFK was killed in '63. That's when when the downhill slide started.
