This is the most refined and serene rendition of this sublime duet I've ever heard.
Simon's Papageno is so loveable! He's such an amazing singer and actor!
a totally different interpretation by Keenlyside 12 years earlier at La Scala--available on CZcams.
I'm always surprised that many conductors just plow through this duet. It is such a gem, and dramatically, such a touching moment, especially here.

Dorothea Röschmann (Sopran) und Simon Keenlyside (Bariton). Nicht nur wunderschön gesungen sondern auch schauspielerisch eine Spitzenleistung von Keenlyside!!
Und er hatte eine schlimme Grippe zu der Zeit! Sagenhaft. Man merkt es etwas.... Aber toll die ganze Performance. 💖
