    I like his mannerisms, playing with his coat. Great voice as well of course! Never fails to disappoint. A lovely duet from both of them.

    Oh, what a great actor he is, Keenlyside - beside of being an eavenly great singer!
    By the way, the acrobatics with the feathers during this performance is quite a thing. I don't think I'd be able to sing and act as fine as they do while I'd have to blow and catch feathers through the air... Fantastic in every dimension!

    THANK YOU for posting, this is the classic of the classic, textbook of stage performance beyond singing, they "value added" to the song itself, yet top quality voices in deed, so precious, such beauty of both... really top class to me.

    I can't believe no one has commented on the adorable business with the feathers. (Nice singing too, obviously.)

      Keenlyside did not perform Papageno,
      he is not born to become Papageno
      HE IS PAPAGENO

    This is a song about (idealized) love, not a love song - in the opera the characters are not in love with each other. Man and wife, and wife and man - reach towards divinity. Very good vocal quality in this recording.

    • @alex9920ro

      this is much better it's obvious. I puke and vomit on rap/hip-hop music, that shitty music terrorized me when I was in the middle school.

    • @Damndrrtyapes

      I agree with you guys spider and Alex :) But there will be people who scream about "racism" because we dare to compare this masterpiece to rap music (which isn't even in the same league)!

    • @spideraxis
      @spideraxis Před 9 lety +1

      DamnDrrtyApes Politely but firmly stand up to those people. Explain that you feel rap is garbage and that you have every right to listen to music that you like.

      I definitely prefer this. I'm purely into classical music now, while I was doing a lot of rock, hard rock, punk and heavy metal in younger years. Rap music isn't necessarily crappy by itself. There's a lot of art to discover in rap. Let's be tolerant regarding preferences. We don't have any right to judge others tastes. From "crappy" (?) folk music may emerge gems of highest art. And some of meant to be highest art can become "crappy"... ;-)

    • @spideraxis
      @spideraxis Před 9 lety +2

      ONeirdaYou raise a worthy point. But from my experience, nearly all of the musical intolerance comes from people who adhere to rap, hip hop, hard rock, The Who. Unfortunately, those tastes in music often brings out the ignorance in some people.

    I love their beautiful voices and the feather business, but Simon's nervously twitchy right hand, which shows up in many of his recitals, is on full and distracting display again here.

  • @mpdoriscar
    @mpdoriscar Před 3 lety

    They both look stiff and uncomfortable. No chemistry between the 2 but, the male voice is the best here and at least, he tries to connect with the actress.

    • @FlowersInHisHair
      @FlowersInHisHair Před 2 lety +1

      I disagree. They have the right chemistry to the piece in context. Remember the characters are singing *about* love, but they are not in love with each other
