These are the same guys who said Alloy is ugly and too masculine. The reason they said she's ugly is because her armor isn't revealing enough. Also the reason as why she's too masculine is because of Forbidden West, in the sun she has hair on her face. The normal fuzz that ALL humans have. That's how I know these guys not only never talk to women but they don't even go outside.
I was playing Forbidden West, and in one cutscene the setting sun illuminated Aloy’s face in just such a way as to make that fuzz appear as a warm corona, as an enthusiastic amateur photographer I was immediately impressed by the detail in the lightning. And simultaneously it unlocked a core memory of when I was sixteen and trying to make moves on one of my older sister’s friends at a beach get-together. Same deal, setting sun, warm corona, and the thought that I was witnessing absolute beauty.
These guys really should get out more. They’d probably be less angry if they actually did some living.
Probably not, her appearance absolutely makes sense in the setting and therefore serves the story told. However it’s also an absolutely fair reason for someone to not buy the game, after all it might not exactly be what they want to look at for hours on end.

Ngl Tifa really gets me going. Not because she’s hot, I mean she is, but because I’ve had a massive crush on her since I was like nine years old and she looked like a lego. High-res Tifa too strong. But also Abby from TLOU2 is really pretty and her muscles are cool.
But more importantly, from a gaming perspective, is that they’re both incredibly satisfying characters to embody. Tifa is a combo and stagger building machine, putting out insane damage, and Abby is a force of nature in CQC and her execution animations are amazing.

Finally got around to finishing the video. The Drinker’s last point is literally just the fascist “degenerate art” argument. Like he can’t conceive of or approve of creative priorities different from his own. It’s so fucking stupid.
Like, nobody plays Disco Elysium for escapism, but it is a work of great art, and will stand as a cultural touchstone in the medium.
I hate the Drinker quite a bit. He has the basic understanding of film criticism and therefore passes as a "good critic" for most of the population. And he uses that for pure grift and right wing propaganda. But he often times completely misses the point (see his "Glass Onion" video) and is just so much worse than a critic without the propaganda baggage. Yet he gets the views, the grift wins. 12:12 The funny thing is , Stephanie Tyler Jones is the capture actress for BOTH versions of Mary jane ( first insomniac spiderman as well as the second one), and if you put pictures of all 3 side by side , this second version looks a little more similiar to the actres.
Characters animated through this process don't always eactly resemble the capture actors. Rather they look similiar in very specific ways so that the facial movements while delivering dialogue seem natural.
Insomniac allegedly completely redesigned Peter during the remaster of the first game because this capture animation with the new actor works better for the dialogue scenes. So it would make sense part of the MJ redesign (to be more similiar to the capture actress ) may have been for this reason

I find most men in videogames average to below that when it comes to look. Square Enix is the only one who creates nice looking men imo. Men have their own version of what they find attractive in men, a lot of women have other things they find attractive. Theres a reason the Kpop boys are seen as hot by a lot of women around the world. Most of us dont want a giant with a small head and giant muscles. Videogame characters dont need to look attractive though. So I never cared that most of my life Ive played white male characters that were below the real world average when it came to attractiveness ,but thats probably because I see men as inherently human ( even if digital) and Im more concerned about story and worldbuilding. Silly me..
Agree, and it really upsets me to see this argument about escapeism being all games are for taking hold. I play games for a narrative, for things to think about, for an emotional reaction, and ive got to say 90% of the games i am a fan of most the fanbase could give less of a shit and just want games to be the same shit theyve always been, constant car keys dangling in front of a baby.
